  1. What is the material of your brick wall for living room?

    Hi,

I am not sure what is the material for brick wall, its the same brick wall which you will find from Hafary. :D

You are better with other brands offering vinyl if they cant offer $6 psf.

I choose Krono, compared both Evo and Krono, look similar, or matter of fact same under the untrained eye.

In the end, I'd saved $1 psf. If there is 1000sf means a $1k saving.

Thanks Ocean Eleven for helping to answer some of my abandon queries in my t-blog.

Sorry to poke my head in here, just happened to be reading... :P

I think it is one password entry for each door, not individual passwords. [Mine is like this, so is my sister's. We both got Samsung locks, different model though]

Depending on your lock model. If it has fingerprint recording function, then of course have to register each individual fingerprint and it will be different for everyone.

Some locks come with RFID card, again have to register the cards on the lock and it will then be different for each individual holding the card.

If battery is flat and you are outside the house, there is an option to charge the battery from the outside. was told need a 9V battery. For the model I bought, there is an additional physical (manual) key overwrite as well.

    Hi koori,

Thanks for clarifying while i was away. :D

Does the whole family use the same password code for entry to door or each individual can use different password lol? What happens if the battery is flat and you can't key in password to enter the house? What is the alternative?

    Tks!

Yes, its only one password for each door and can use multiple rfid though. For my case i place a spare battery outside of my house, its actually sits on the metal case box to cover the back of the metal gate lock. So once its flat i could use that battery. Otherwise, you could change the battery every once a year to be safe, so far been using it for 10 months and there is no need to change battery yet. :D

    Dear Sharon

Can you please post some close up pictures of your HERF edge against the wall (Width side of the plank against the wall.)

Was it kept tight against the wall? or you see 3mm gap?

Was the gap parallel again the wall? Mine was looking like below. 50% are all looking like that. Even though I have pasted my walls.

Did the gap expand after your installation?

I like to see the workmanship of goodrich. I brought mine from Evorich direct with their installation. I have requested Evorich rectify this weekend. Hopefully no lame excuse from Evorich..

    857911_10151999851951231_1809357468_o_zp

    Hi,

I have got it from evorich as well and there was some minor gap but they use the sillicon to cover the corner. It is a must to cover the edges to seal up. I did not take photos of the HERF before they apply sillicon but after they apply the sillicon it was fine.

  2. Hi all,

Sincerely sorry for the much late reply, i believe most have started or almost completing with the renovation works but will still answer the questions nevertheless.

Hi, saw your antique rain shower head from taobao and love it!!! But my dad bought a tap from china before n after installing, water came out yellowish cos metal started rusting! So bit worried. You've been using the shower for some time now? How is it?

Hi Gako, mine did not come out yellowish, my rain shower tap is actually copper bronze material. I have been using it for almost 10 months since we moved in and its still good so far. :good:

Hi I'm looking at a similar configuration as well. Can I also please find out what was your package with coolforce? Thanks much!

Hi Bibliokitty, mine was a special package with coolforce as my configuration would require 2 compressor which usually others would only require a system 4. As my hb was greedy and ambitious thus he wanted to have a much cooler room for a 4-room. Our BTU was much higher as well, for our exact configuration could look for Cynthia at coolforce and mentioned Sharon and Alan, she would know and could advise you on the configuration. We paid about 5.5k +/- for the package. :D

    Hi There,

I happened to found your thread while searching for barn door hardware. Are you able to help me check with Mr K where did he get the barn door track??

Like you, I am intending to change to a sliding barn door. wonder if I should get from taobao or I could just get it in Singapore, but the search is getting me no where!

Can you please help me to check? Appreciate it!!

by the way, I also bought the rain shower & that light for my house...kekeke

    Hi chewthegum,

The barn door and barn door upper track was done by Mr K sub contractor who is doing carpentry for him. If you would like to know exactly which barn door track, you could ask Mr K carpenter's Ah Zhuan to do it for you. Its very difficult to get it from taobao as you might not be sure it could fit the barn door well. Best to get the carpenter to do the barn door with the track for you. :D

    Hi,

May I know what is the name of the colour of your flooring? Is it herf from evorich?

    Thank you!

    Hi lovinhearts,

Sorry for the late reply. The herf is from evorich which i think i remember it was durban oak. I did mentioned in my previous post before. :D

    Hi Sharon,

    Great house you got there.

We are having almost the same floor plan, except for the kitchen entrance. We were advised against having 2 A/c multiplied units in your apt. Do you still have your trunking and water pipes plans for the A/c lying around so that I can referenced it?

    Cheers..

    Hi ihheng,

Sorry for the late reply again. Thanks for dropping by my tblog. Sorry to mentioned but i do not have the aircon trunking and water pipes plan for a/c as it was agreed on with the aircon installers upon our first meetup and installation. Basically we routed from outside the aircon ledge up to near ceiling and into our MBR and passes by on top of our MBR's bathroom and along the corridor and finally ends in the living room. Hopes it helps even though it might be late.

Hello where did u get the toilet paper holder with a face :) so cute

    Hi bianzi,

Sorry for the late reply, the toilet paper holder with a face is bought from taobao, chanced upon that in taobao.

    Here is the link

  3. Sorry but i just realised i had missed out the study room which is located beside the nursery.

Here is the entrance of the study room, the entrance is pretty small as the corner on the right have been used for our WIW

    10502044_10153345349584546_9973058230605

However when we walk in, we still have a small cosy study corner which is sufficient for a super single bed in the future if we would like to convert to another bedroom. While the WIW we could split half of the WIW to open on this side for waredrobe in this room.

  4. Finally Master Bedroom. We did the bay window and tv cabinet at the corner. We might be mounting the 32inch tv at the later stage when after our newborn arrive.

We also had the 2 bedside table.

    1901506_10153345348049546_10940653126453

As you can also see, our blocks are closely build to one another so we had a blackout solar film in our MBR. Do look for Joey 91088003 and quote Sharon from Fernvale to get solar film price. :D

    1011279_10153345348024546_12035342679491

What is left is the aircon ledge window which we have yet to install the blinder and only merely using an ugly towel to cover it up as we cant drill holes into the MBR at the moment. We bought a ikea roller blind which can nicely cover the aircon ledge window.

    10458487_10153345347894546_7004592481066

As you can see, due to fengshui reasons, the ceiling fan is not located in the centre of the room or centre of the bed, it is purposely flushed to the side of the room.

  5. Not sure if this have been shared, our messy Common bathroom. Mirror are from ikea which were good to place some of our toiletries.

Nothing much was done for our bathrooms as we thought that since HDB have provided with a useable bathroom thus we could retain its original state only changing the rain shower head, adding the rain shower head, adding the pendant lights and changing the bathroom door to a barn door.

However after using for a period of time we realised we should have changed the floor tile and probably could make the wall tiles nicer other than that the bathroom looks pretty plain.

  6. Hi readers,

Sorry for the lack of updates due to welcoming small little one just after the reno. In fact we have yet to do some minor finishing touches for our new home and our little one is on the way and there are certain reno works which we could not do. Here are somethings which we quietly did.

This shall also end my of my tblog to record down the journey of my renovation. Thank you readers for staying by my tblog on the updates.

    Recapping my Living Room

    10354173_10153345197914546_4720245518699

We went to Mr K's carpenter and added a aluminium frame cover for our tv console as our little one will be out and would not want her to be meddling with the things inside the tv console. (advise to do a covered tv console right from the start) :good:

We mounted our TV to clear space on the surface of the TV console. Gotten a metal pipe to hide all the unglam wires and wirings. :D

  7. So for the samsung digital lock which you bought off Q100... who helped you with the installation may I ask? was it difficult?

    Hi~

As mentioned earlier, i have installed it myself, well, its my hubby who installed it and happend that the carpenter was around and they were curious how it works, so they started helping by drilling the 32mm hole on the wooden door.

Here is the installation guide for Samsung Digital Lock SHS 1320 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glzr-_Njkq0

Its pretty easy for us but it depends on individual and kind of door. :)

It is not difficult, there is a video to guide how to go about it.

  8. Hi plainsharon,

i'm also thinking of doing this digital lock but just for door only, and leave it as it is for the metal gate.

And we were looking at the gateman one, which comes with a handle for the door. Does it mean they will need to also modify my current door/handle for the wooden door?

    Cheers

I have neighbours who did digtal lock for the wooden door and leave the metal gate as it is. Some feedback that its still better to get metal gate digital lock and some mentioned that they do not lock the metal gate so it is okay for them. :)

If its wooden door, you do not need to modify, unless your wooden is 2 piece kind. For handle ones will prolly need modify as well. I did not use the handle ones and use back the orignal handle that was provided on the door. :)

  9. Hi Sharon, for the digital lock on the gate, did you change the gate to have the box or simply modify?

Can you please share the cost with me? Thank you.

    Hi Ocean Eleven,

I think i did share the price before. :o Anyway its $549 for v20 Gateman. You could look for interlock melissa and ask for the same quote as me. Just mentioned Sharon who bought from her in January. :) Not sure if she might be retain the same price as it is awhile ago.

it work out to be cheaper if to get just metal door digital lock. If i get it from else where they will need to purchase bundle (wooden door digital lock + metal door digital lock) which i do not want as i intend to purchase from Qoo10 and the total amount still adds up to be $100 cheaper than getting a bundle.

I did not change the gate, they simply modify it. :)

  10. Thank you for the locking mechanic fotos Sharon... It's really simpler than I imagine... That means can save on the locks :)

That said, the overall cost of a barn door can be juz slightly above a nytoh door.. Yea!!

Glad that it helped.

I got my door from HDB so did not change the door, only got a 2 door nytoh door from my contractor. :) But the price of the barn door is slightly above the nytoh door. :)

Hi, may I check if the digital lock is operated by battery? What type of battery does it use and how long does it last?

Here is how it works for my digtal lock on my wooden door. Battery usage depends on individual and battery used. See image below :

If you googled the digital lock model no. should be able to find more infomation about it

Wooden Door Digital Lock Model : Samsung Ezon SHS-1321

Metal Door Digital Lock Model : Gateman V20 [Which is the same as Yale. Yale bought over Gateman]

  11. hi plainsharon,

for ur metal lock, how do you open the door? is it using card or pin code?

what about from the inside? would you mind to take the picture from the inside pleaseeeee....

    thx alot....

Metal lock is both pin and rfid. This model is Gateman V20 can find more information with the model. :)

My inside is something similiar to this, they will use a lock box to lock it up. So people cant access from outside.

At the same time there a remote control to open the door from inside the house like below.

The description below will give you a better idea. :good:

  12. Thanks plainsharon. Hmm I'm quite reluctant to drill because hubby feels that it will fixate the area for hanging pictures... So wondering if the 3m hooks can do the work since we are likely hanging smaller Picture frames on the wall

We were thinking that we will hang the picture for a long time, further more we are afraid it might not be so stable with 3m hook with big hanging picture. Hanging smaller picture should be fine, could use 3m hook or velcro strip like these :)

Its pretty sturdy and will stick closely to the wall without worrying that wind might blow off your picture. :good:

    hanging.jpga4f8f07f62a62d.jpg

Usually when you decide to hang something there, its pretty unlikely you might want to bring it down, unless its not nice and you might want to change it.

Its not like the picture will wear and tear too.:lol:

  13. Yea.. Think I have to spend some serious time on carpentry planning already... Been relaxed for too long.. Lol.. (We start our Reno around the same period) :P

Barn doors have a charm of its own right! Been liking it since I saw it on a tv design program while overseas.. But the difference is that over there, they uses real wooden planks instead.. I do have a question about the locking mechanic of the barn door thou.. How does it look like huh? Any keys to unlock from the other side?

    Hey plainsharon,

I'm interested to know how the barn door is locked

If possible, can take a photo of the locking mechanism?

    Thanks!

    Hi again~

I know its been a few days since the barn door locking mechanism was asked.

Here is the hooked / lock / locking mechanism. :):):)

Its something much simpler than expected.

We only had the lock in the common toilet as the MBR toilet does not really need a lock. :notti:

  14. the template is very useful. thanks. am cracking my head over the layouts.

    cheers

No problem. I googled for a few templates online too. Glad to help. :)

thanks for sharing the wardrobe template!

am working on my carpentry planning now too :)

    Good that its useful. :)

    Thanks for the wardrobe template.

    Really useful :good:

Hope to see more update pictures

Yes, i will try to update more when furnitures comes in. Been waiting for it since before chinese new year.

    Hey plainsharon,

I'm interested to know how the barn door is locked

If possible, can take a photo of the locking mechanism?

    Thanks!

I will take a photo of the locking mechanism. Its pretty simple lock so do look out. :)

Wall Clocks (Rhythm and Seiko) at Bencoolen Square is definitely cheaper.

Seiko at Bencoolen square is cheaper, i try to bargain a little. I will try to go back and take photo of the shop. :)

    hihi plainsharon...

super love ur house... also the wardrobe planning... i directly take photo of it after seeing it...

i see u bought alot of stuff from taobao...

this is my first time buying from taobao...

i plan to buy chandelier light, entrance foyer light and fake eames chair lol...

can you advise me for this, which agent should i use? daigou, peeka or amcon???

somemore i dont know how to read chinese "."

also im trying to convince my hb to use storage heater so we can have rain shower.. but he complained that the electrical bill will be very exp..

so far based on ur exp, does the electical bill truns out to bevery exp for storage heater?

    thank alot....

    Hi Happymom~

Thanks for dropping by. I used peeka, the first purchased i use daigou but it was super expensive. 2nd time onwards i used peeka, it was great! Quite cheap too. For amcon, i heard good reviews about their pricing also, but placing order is not as simple as peeka or daigou thats why i used peeka subsequently. :)

Maybe you could use google translate or chrome to help auto translate for you when you are in taobao site. :)

I did not use storage heater, i just used the city gas heater and the rain shower works fine. Water pressure it not very high but good enough. But there is a few seconds waiting time from the gas heater to heat and flow water into the shower. My MBR's toilet is furthest, so the waiting time is the longest. Around 10-20seconds and durin the time i have a pail to collect the cold water while it gets warm up so i could use the water to wash floor or toilet. :)

the brand of the wall clocks are Rhythm and Seiko. not the shops' name :bleah:

There quite a few shops at "The Bencoolen". The Bencoolen building is beside OG Albert Complex.

Thanks claypot for clarifying. :) But i think the shop i purchase comes with a big seiko word. Let me check it out later on. :)

Yes, you ought to do some planning, i manage to do some research online and found a template which i could start off from for the waredrobe portion.

Some segment prepartion to have an rough idea what you want. :notti:

    drawings1.PNG

For the barn door, K was going to do a lock box for us end up he did not. He said its not possible to do it and decided a normal chain lock. No keys needed. Let me try to take some photos when im back.

Here is something similiar to what i have just that mine is in gold and longer.

    JV110BPC_750.jpg

I know im oweing a lot of photo updates over here. :deal: I will try to update soon.

  16. yah. I got very good sized and quality mirrors from my existing place. wanted to only do re-frame, but was also quoted a few hundred dollars for 3 mirrors. So gave up on the idea as well.

Get from ikea its cheaper though i read up that its not so lasting. But cheap and we could use it for a few years and change another one too. excuse to buy stuffs. :good: :good:

hello! can post more on your WIW! thanks thanks!

I will post more of my WIW soon~ look out for it~ :notti: :notti:

P.s its still messy in my WIW as im waiting for you hangers from taobao to be here.

    Hi Sharon,

Congrats on your completion! Managed to read thru your blog one shot... Niccce place!

Noticed we have several identical concepts we have for our places- the dates, walls, wardrobes, sofa selection, the shower ledge ( mine is triangular thou), the wash area for the furbies!! Lolll and the barn doors; which we are having triple thought about it due to our low height issue.. Oh well.. See how lah..

Good to see that you have settled in comfortably.. Am at the carpentry planning stage now, so probably another month or two from now.. Mine is a long journey.. :P

Thanks for dropping by~ everyone came and love our barn door. Plan your carpentry well, i gave plans on how i want to arrange my drawers and casement cabinets for capentry. :) :)

Love those mirrors in your bathroom.

Heard they don sell it anymore in Ikea :(

They still have it in ikea, i thought it was running low on stocks but recently just checked, its still available. Comes with 2 colours. Birch which is the lighter brown like mine, and darker brown. :D

Hi there, thanks for sharing your house renovation tips with us. Much appreciated Sharon.
Im interested to know how much are the wood tiles you used in your living room and also the HERF from Evorich in your bedrooms. Are you able to share the costs? Also any surface prep costings.
How does the wood tiles feel? Just like any tiles yes?
    Thanks!

the woodtiles we picked $4 per 90cm tile, the longer one instead of 60 cm. Got it from Hafary. Total was quoted around $3k from K who quoted including workmanship

For the HERF from Evorich we got Durban Oak. For Evorich its $6 per sq ft. Nowadays it seems hard to get this kind of price but you could bargain with them. :)

The wood tiles feels cooler while HERF is more warmer. And when my dogs step on HERF there is a hollow sound compare to woodtile which does not have the hollow tiak tiak tiak sound.

Oh, I just bought the mirror from ikea Tampines last last Sunday. There was still a lot of stock when I bought my mirror.

Thanks for sharing that there is stocks. :good: :good: :good: After the completion of my reno, i seldom update as im still waiting for my final round of stuffs to be here before i update with more photos.

Time to visit Ikea this weekend ...

Yeah~ you could sometimes find good stuffs from ikea~ Initially i refrain going to ikea as they are infamous for the quality of their furniture but eventually i bought mirrors and bookshelf from them.
