  1. Hi Pinkwhale,

Loved to have a place with the same feel as yours!

We are also working on the cement screed for our wall and the effect didnt turned out as i expected. For your smooth surface, you hadn't apply sealent, does it get damage when contact with water - the sandy feel.

Hi...ya we did not apply sealent for the smooth cement screed, the sandy feel is there initially even without getting contact with water but after a while of usage, the surface will become smoother. but the color will become darker too...

  2. since pinkwhale is busy, i shall be kpoh and help answer some questions.. :P

    1. i asked the same question, but cost should be similar..cuz cheaper tiled top (compared to solid top) is offset by workmanship of the structure..but it's probably more durable..

    2. more grouts = more cleaning and maintenance i suppose, must take extra care..alternatively, white tiles with black grout looks beautiful and has less maintenance issues with grouting (see paloma's kitchen!)

    3. The cabinets are wood-grained laminates.

    4. hacking ain't that costly (i hacked 6 walls), but price wise i suppose it's better to check with our contractor (he's not an ID).

Dear, thanks for replying on behalf... I can't agree more.

But still I will add on my opinion...

    1. Yup the cost is more or less similar - reason like theitsybit mentioned.

    2. This point I also agree! Now I also abit regretted not doing white mosaic with black grouting...I'm super paranoid about dirtying the countertop...black tiles looks more classy in a white but white maybe looks more "Japanese and Scandinavia" I regret big time... Think now I like Japanese look lots... But if change to white mosaic countertop then my shiny glass mosaic backsplash cannot do Liao... Cos that class look cannot match... Hahaha...contradict...

    3. Ya this wood grain laminate is all time favourite among K's customers le...but if possible then try to discover others cos too overly used Liao...

    4. Hacking 1 wall is ex! But hacking more walls is not ex... Becos even if u hack just one small wall, they still need to apply permit for u, bring all the tools and manpower so the basic cost is there already so hacking more walls maybe only add on a few more hundreds..

And yeah.. He is just a contractor and not ID!

  3. u're back in action! :P congrats on housewarming! :D

Thanks.. Not really back in action but got a shock when I saw so many unreplied post so die die also must have some reply hehe..

Recently I'm trying to plan a holiday to Taiwan in Nov so spent most of my time doing reading up on that.

I just read ur review abt Mr K le.. Honestly I felt exactly the same way like u. Interms of his speed and price. And I also agree on ur point on the hdb license which many also enquired from me. We also heard horror stories for those ID or contractor with license giving problem but nothing much can be done. So I also feel mutual trust is more important.

Actually u r very much more detailed than me looking at ur electrical planning and carpentry drawing. All these I never do, so these planning was done by K and his subcon with discussion together with me.

I want to go ur house soon!!!

  4. Care to share where you got the nice ceiling fan? Thanks

this haiku fan i got it from Universal union, but the price is crazy now.

    Hi,

Can pm me the damage for your toilet door w installation? If possible the qoutation for your whole house too?

    Thanks a million

my contractor quoted me 1K plus for the 2 toilet doors, maybe you can contact my contractor for the quote

Hi pink whale, would you get the wind when sitting at the dinning table? I have a L shape living room and I'm think if one fan would be enough if I place the fan at centre.

the breeze from the fan is light if i'm sitting at my dining table, as my fan is on top the sofa and away from the dining table.

    Hi pinkwhale,

Can you please pm me your contractor contact and if possible the damage for your reno.

Lastly, I notice you use concrete frame for kitchen cabinet and tv console. Why not wood frame?

    Thanks

actually its personal preference for concrete, I felt concrete kitchen counter is more durable and water resistant especially below the sink area. And I like the look of it. I will Pm you the contacts

  5. Sorry for the missing in action, had been busy filling up the place with the small details and preparing for house warming which was completed last sunday.

I had also sent PM for all those requesting for contractor's contact, hope its not too much delay to you.

If I missed out any pls kindly remind me a little as there was quite a few backlog :o

  6. Hi pinkwhale!

Hmm what brand of downlights are u using? Not LED? how come so fast went off...

So you still think cove light is best eh? I'm afraid of lizards chilling in the cove leh... :OS

hehe not yet but I already have the person in mind :o)

I'm using Philips downlight... Dunno why so fast goes off? Hopefully is not the transformer or whatever u call it. If not I got to trouble K to bring his electrician down :P

Ya I got the same worries as u thus I do not have many cove light. And maybe becos I did not have downlight above my head so I find it a little dim especially when I try to use the laptop at the sofa area.

Hope u start ur renovation soon, u must be in the final discussion stage. So in the end is K still in ur shortlist?

  7. Hi^^

    I nearly missed your T-blog!

By the way regarding your questions for my ceiling, I did not have the time to take and upload photos.

So I briefly update to u here.

For my living room I had one row of cove light in warm light. The cove is for the sofa area and it's quite bright but somehow shadow will be cast on the wall when u on the ceiling fan but I feel is not so serious

As for downlight I had 7 at aroun the sofa area, downlight I feel is not as bright as cove light buy downlight will not pose any problem for ceiling fan if u have enough clearance.

One of my downlight bulb just went off, no time to change it yet.

Btw, have u confirm ur ID/contractor?

  8. I agree with your hubby! The before condition really doesn't matter if you plan to whack away everything. In fact all the better for lower COV. You can see many RT-ers before/after pics for some motivation. :)

And do keep the terrazzo if possible. Not easy to do terrazzo floors now plus it's not cheap. You can have a look at this: http://www.homeanddecor.com.sg/homes/hobby-house

    hobby-house-1.jpg

This is indeed something that should be kept!! Lovely!

But then again TS might not be doing retro and industrial style to match this. Wish her all the best!

  9. ya hor its supposed to be rare and considered vintage... And yesss the black phone suits your wall perfectly..Thanks for the info pinkwhale :good:

Think becos it's very popular now thus many places also selling. Since u still can choose u should look around some more. No prob..

  10. nice retro phone, it goes well on your lovely wall & i superlike it..:dribble: can i know the website you got it from? thks

    Hi Shazy

Actually this phone is VERY commonly seen everywhere now. It's available in all major departmental store like isetan, Robinson, takashimaya and even small boutique store like haji lane etc has it. A little disappointed to find it so commonly available. But still happy I got it for my home due to it's suitability. Cos not many nice wall hang phone around :D

  11. Actually frankly speaking I prefer your combination le.. I was telling K that this woodgrain laminate seems to match better with white !! Matching with black seems duller.. So I like ur combination better. And ur white counter tiles with black grouts seems easier to take care le. Now I'm quite paranoid with the white grout line turning dirty everytime I cook.. Really need to take a lot of care.

Okok thanks for ur welcoming.. I ask K to make appt with you maybe next week if he has the time ^^ hehe.. There's so much at ur place I would like to check out and admire... :D

  12. Dear, I like ur flooring!!!! I whatsapp K to tell him I like ur floor.. Then he replied me "你又来 !" he feared I want to add Reno to my house again hahaha.. But like like like.. Can whole house looks like timber flooring.. Classy...

  13. Hi pinkwhale, can I check if you have difficulty accessing the hangers after installation of the windows and grilles?

Can you also share on how do you use this kind of hangers? Are the bars fixed or can be removed like the conventional bamboo poles?

I'm currently considering if I need to do up the windows and grilles for the service yard but unsure on how to access and use this kind of hangers.

    Hi Kel2505

the windows and grilles are bascially sliding type thus it is ok to access the hangers.

the hanger bars are fixed kind... cannot be remove one
