  1. I went to Cottage Craft and Forest for quotation, after more than one week still no news. However, I went to Country Concept and Visual Furniture, they are able to give me the quotation on the spot. How long does IDs take to provide quotation?

  2. Dun sweep lOr.. Haha.. My sOfa aso like tat.. But got wheels, can pull out

    Hi,

Is your sofa the same as the one display at ECO Links showroom except

that it is white in colour? Are the wheels specially custom made by you?

  3. Hey KittyJems

I've been really busy with my new job and no time to call Forest to complain about the peeling paint! Think I must really make an effort to get it done soon. Though it's not a very big problem...not very obvious unless you see very clearly, but it's our hard-earned money lor. When you see them the next time, feel free to tell them about my problem lah. Tell them we discuss this on the forum, so they better do a good job for u so u won't slam them on the forum. haha....

So when is your reno starting? Have they given u all the perspective drawings?

    Hi countrylover,

I think you should give them a call and settle this issue ASAP. The normal warranty period is about 1 year, anything longer than that would be quite difficult to persue.

  4. I went to Roomyroom once. Agree with piggiedearz that they do not have a lot of French style furniture in their showroom, though website shows a wide range....quite misleading if you ask me. From what I understand, their furniture are custom made in Indonesia. If you really want to save costs and willing to take the risks, you should consider doing them in Indonesia then ship here....cheap and good workmanship! I had my French fireplace and mirror custom made in Indo. Quite a hassle but worth the time and effort. If anyone is interested, I can pass u the contacts.

I went to RoomyRoom 2 times this year and as recent as a few weeks ago. There is a complete "showroom" in the basement for classic French furniture including bed, shoe cabinet, table, chairs, coffee table, TV console, dresser table, display cabinet etc. However the showroom and entrance is sort of hidden and may not be easy to locate. You can approach their sales people to direct you to the showroom that display classic French furniture. :)

  5. i think you have to check with forest what is going on, and if u sign with them, have to state in contract that if any of these peeling issues occur, they will have to do smting about it...to safeguard your interests lor.

where is your new house? :) what theme you going for? french? english? shabby? :)

    Hi piggiedearz,

Ok, thanks for the advice. I think there are still other country style IDs available

though their design may not be so nice. :)

My place is at the newly built Havelock road flats. I think it will be either French or

English or mixed depending on budget and the ID I choose but probably not shabby.

  6. Oh... I din tink that could be wood problem. Tink I will talk with my designer again. Did you manage to ask Country Lover about the paint peeling? Did she reply? Now I'm kinda worried. Cos the amount for the reno is not small lor. If any issues, my hub sure won't be happy.

Wow! Thanks for the link. The furniture all looks really nice. But no pricing. Have you been there yet? How's the pricing and quality like?

I did not talk to countrylover about this issue.

I went there 2 times, it opens only on Sat and Sun.(i.e. 1 pm to 6 pm) There are 4 showrooms, 3 of them in basement. (1 for displaying French furniture) Prices are quite reasonable, the most expensive items are still below $1000. As for quality wise, I think it may not be the best but still acceptable for the price you pay. Noticed there are many customers during weekends. FYI, 1 dinning table plus 6 chairs still cost below $1000.

  7. Hi flermodders / piggiedearz,

I was also concerned about the peeling paint experienced by country lover (on the other thread). But the designer at Forest kept reassuring me their paintwork is ok. She also said if my cabinets got such problem, they will send their painter down to rectify the problem. Tink I better get all these down in writing on the contract. Scared now say ok... then later got to pay for rectification works will be really sianz.

    Hi KittyJems,

I suspect that this may not be due to the painting issue but rather from the raw wood itself which was not dried properly, hence the paint will not stick onto it.

You can take a look at this website for Royal French Furniture

(51 Ubi Ave 1, Paya Ubi Industrial Park, Unit #01-10)

    http://roomyroom.com/html/royal_french_furniture.html

  8. i bought from the country shop at IFC at sungei kadut, but their quality is very lousy, mine grew mould!! So i would not advise buying from there. Did countrylover say her furniture from forest had paint peeling off? Which post?

So your house is undergoing renovation soon? :) Exciting! :)

Below is the link to the post : (#379)

    http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=12684&st=360

I will be collecting my keys probably in November 2011. :)

  9. thanks for the compliment. the bed and side tables, dresser are individual pieces from another shop, the rest are custom made from cottage crafts. i would say they are more expensive than normal modern design furnitures, whether bought off the shelf or custom made but still reasonable enough to accept :) are you renovating your house in this style too?

I will probably renovate my house in country style. So where did you buy those furniture? By the way, I managed to locate a place at Ubi Ave 1 that sells French classic furniture at reasonable prices.

Still in a dilemma whether to proceed with forest after countrylover shared about her paint peeling issue.

    :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

  10. yup imported furnitures are usually very expensive... so have to make do with local ones that have the country flair hehe. my ceiling height is also not very high but i still want cornices as it completes the look. i love laura ashley stuff too!! :D

Your house is very beautiful. Are your furnitures custom made from Cottage Craft besides the wardrobe? (i.e. shoe cabinet, bed, display hutch, table, side drawers and dresser) Are they very expensive?

  11. OK, thanks. How would you rate Forest's custom made

furniture compared with ECO Links in terms of

    design, quality and price?

So I guess your renovation with Forest includes

more than just custom made kitchen cabinets and

    furniture?

  12. OK thanks, will definitely go to Tampines and take a look.

Do you know if Forest Woodworking quotes for general

contracting works is also very expensive?(e.g. bathroom

kerbs, base for kitchen cabinets / bathroom kerbs,

    painting etc.)

FYI, my coming new flat will be layed with floor tiles

and a very small kitchen (3m X 2.3m) There is little

needs to be done and I am doing minimum renovation except

    kitchen.

What do you think of Royal French furniture at

RoomyRoom.com? (Ubi Avenue) I think their prices are

quite reasonable but need to select the pieces carefully.

  13. OK, thanks. Countrylover, saw your country home featured on Sunday times. :)

Is it very difficult to maintain white furniture? Any tips on cleaning?

I have walked through many country style furniture shops. One shop that

impressed me is ECO Links. Not sure if anyone knows about their service

level and quality of their furniture? I find the products a bit pricy

for furniture made in Vietnam but I love their design.

  14. When i want to use this theme, i did alot of research n went to all the 4 specialize ID & contractor, there are English, Amercian, french, modern.. Engish use alot of brown, amercian use alot redish brown, french use alot of blue, pastel.. Modern more of the white.. My house will be a mixture of french n modern.. White glossy kitchen to make my space brighter.. Every rm will have different color theme to give different feeling.. Engish classic can blend in with manhanttan collection items.. I went to see: bulky, ex but super nice.. Like leaving in a palace

    Hi,

Looks like I have only 2 options i.e. Forest Woodworking and Cottage Craft as both are HDB registered renovation contractors.

Just check with you does Forest Woodworking install those soft closing cabinets doors and drawers like Blum systems for your wardrobes and kitchen cabinets?

Also my master bedroom is quite small and if I put a queen size bed, probably can only have a sliding door wardrobe which is not too country, sigh.

  15. Is Country Concept (Country Kitchen) a HDB registered renovation contractor? I could not find their company in HDB website?

    http://www.hdb.gov.sg/bn25/isos118p.nsf/List+by+Company?OpenView&Count=15&Start=1&RestrictToCategory=A&CurVal=Reno%20Company%20Name/

There are a few firms doing country style renovation at Tanjong Katong Complex such as Visual Furniture, Impression Design Firm, Inform Design & Contracts. Not sure if anyone has experience with them on renovation?
