  1. YES!

    School is fun!

I like studying and all. (Don't bombard me as a freak....okay maybe a little bit freaky)

But seriously, I find that long breaks get boring after a month. A longer school year would probably mean a better distribution of homework, assessment, exams. It's not the amount that gets the students, it is the whole rush deadline thing that causes stress.

If all the homework can be more spread out, then there would not be so much stress. School would be more enjoyable.

  2. Looking for home tuition teacher for my daughter who is in Primary 3 now. her homework is getting bad to worse, need help.

    1. anywhere i can get good n reliable home tutors?

    2. anyone tried getting 1 from YES Tuition?

    3. is ex-teacher or graduate good enuf?

    pls advise

YES tuition is not bad. Prompt reply, staff not stuck up people.

Ex teacher and grad is more than enough...P3 school work is easy...Maybe overqualified, so you pay more for just for the piece of paper called degree (I have two P3 students myself)

  3. Hi, can I check with you how do you know there were geniune offers for your flat? I am looking for flat to buy at Queenstown area and when I made an offer. The agent didnt reply me at all liao. I did my own research then realised this agent is always aiming for record price breaking transactions.

You can try other agencies. The agents will have a record of the properties on sale, bid how much etc. I don't think laymen like us can check genuine offers.

I hope to be corrected by more knowledgeable poeple out there

  4. Aliexpress really opens up the door to buying things from PRC. I have since placed more than 50 orders from the site. All went thru smoothly except for once.....like ebay, u have to check the various supplier for the best deal :good:

Cool site...so using Aliexpress can buy directly from the factories in PRC? If it's reliable, then it's worth a try.

    Thanks for this! thumbsup.gif

  5. Based on your 'quote', I will fall under the last category? Lol... I don't know about quality yet but carpentry works is done by KSH, wouldn't worry about that. In fact, I don't think my contractor is good. Too calculative with me, he even have cheek to bring up subject like wasting his petrol, when I'm paying him so many thousands.

I will not use his service again and am hesitant recommending to others... If you are really keen, let me know and I'll pm you...?

    No problem.

What is KSH? And why don't need to worry?

  6. You don't have to take up everything your ID offers. IDs are all bloodsuckers. You may find yourself saving quite a susbtantial amount in fact if you source and approach the contractors yourself !

LOL. Sounds like you have a vendetta or something. I don't think all IDs are bloodsuckers. There are some good people around. Of course, you got to balance your needs with your budget, but saying that all IDs are out to get you is like saying all insurance agents are evil and all salespeople are corrupt.

Extreme views like this is not really useful.

  7. I don't think its worth the trouble, time and effort.

For taps especially, unless you are very sure of the measurements of the openings etc, you will definitely need to keep changing with the shop for another tap. For my house, I went down to the shop at Balestier 3 times, just to change taps, because the taps cannot fit, hole too big etc

If you buy at jb, it would be a nightmare to change all these stuff. I am sure you don't want to spend money on things that you cannot use. So my opinion is to better play safe

  8. I do not recommend JB ID although I got the JB carpenter to do my carpentry works. The price is cheaper like what I've shared on my blog, but they do have some bad habits which many cannot tolerate. I got no problem with my carpenter because he's my close friends, but when i intro him to my other friends, he got very bad comments like delay work, late during meeting etc.

Besides, my office was renovated by JB ID, I find their workmanship not good and very hard to get them rectify the problems afterwards. I think they are also not familiar with our SG legislation and structure of building. Example our toilet keep leaking, the JTC said is our renovator fault but the JB ID don't agree, so end up nobody want to accept responsibility, and we got to pay others to repair it.

If you want to save money, you can research the design you like and just get a contractor to do, like mine was designed by myself after copy and paste from magazine and online resources, I just get a main contractor to handle all the works for me.

Provided that your main contractor is good I guess?

Good luck for your reno, tom_kkh!

  9. I am getting a new flat. i will not be engaging an ID. Will only be engaging a contractor to do my place for me. If i would want to do cement overlay for my living room walls. Will contractor be the one? or i need to engage a painter?

You can ask the contractor for contacts. I am sure he/she will be able to recommend. Some contractors will do it themselves, to earn more money. But need to be careful that the guy really know how to paint
