  1. This is my floor plan. :) Quite similar to most 5 rooms in cassia crescent.

We were hunting in the mountbattern area for at least 6 months and finally settled on this one mainly because of the floor plan. So since you're interested in floor plans around our area, these are the other 5 rooms we checked out here.

This is in the newer pine close blocks(your block too i think).. I liked the distance of the block to the station but not this floor plan, especially the narrow living room.

And this is in the older pine close block. Super nice big living and dining.. It was a toss up between cassia cres and this and the one, and the bigger mbr and toilet location was the deal clincher.

Hi thanks for showing us the floorplan, was really eye opener for me at least to see different layout in the same area. We've only seen three different house in this area and we bought ours. I remember the first one we goes to was at Cassia, the owner open up his kitchen and do away with the service balcony it makes his kitchen amazingly big but the rest of his house was pretty nothing much to mention. Anyway we are talking about 4 rooms...those that u shown us and yours are 5 room they were so much bigger. Really interesting so big difference in floorplan within the same area. :yamseng:

  2. denimart, you may be interested to see this.

one off project using american white oak as deck material in SG.

just went back recently to see, almost 2 years already, still looking good.

Hi Morgan this is an eye opener...two years on and still looks awesome. The grain the grain...beautiful grain!! I'm glad we made the bold move. Btw, did the owner painted dark color to the white oak?

  3. Yhe problem is contractor didnt apply to hdb, just told us cannot, HDB will only approve provided our window is facing our own balcony. But i went downstair ane look up to all my neighbours, i saw one of them install this type... :(

Today we just receive a letter from hdb approving our permit, think my con has extended e Reno date. Though I never read finish I saw the first few line mentioning the approval of our top hung window inside both bathroom. My con nv bull**** us so this does need to apply permit. :)

  4. Looking good! Can't wait to see your oak floors done up.

I'm actually in the same area too and will be doing a mini T-blog soon.

BTW, have you tried the zhi char at 34 cassia crescent, it was featured on the Sunday times last week. Super yummy.. You can even phone in your order and just pick it up. :)

    Love the location!

Thanks. Hey faster do a t-blog, see how difference is our floorplan. R u at cassia?

  5. I see your White Oak flooring and got interested in it.

Don't mind if you can share with us which contractor you got it from? And is there a brand? How much is the cost for the flooring?

Hi i've already pm u his contact. Look for Morgan, he is also inside this forum. On the other hand, u can take a look at the character of white oak which is written by him inside this t-blog. :yamseng:

  6. Look like main door must go too... not matching le.

The main door cannot go, bo money liao... :bangwall: But con did mention to me before he will paint it white for me, i'm not v sure cos i like the natural color of this wood door...if i paint i can't recover in future so i nv answer him..lol

  7. 22nd May 2012 continues...

Was pretty upset over these as i felt they might already scratched my tiles..reflect to my contractor and he check with the window workers immediately. Get back to me and told me the workers moved the unwanted material down piece by piece using hand. I also voice my concern wether the installer will use shovel to clear the debris and also will scratched the tiles but was told this won't happens. Later that night i felt i can't blame him cos we should have do the window first, anyway he assure me if discovered any scratches on the tiles he will knock and change for me.

  8. Funny you asking me about the flatness and even ask me about manually spread or self level pre-mixed... one look at the cement screed uneven tone, you should know it is spread manually. Using self leveling pre-mixed usually has a uniform tone throughout the whole area.

Morgan just wana be sure lah. :yamseng::) Thanks Morgan, see u soon :sport-smiley-004:

  9. gee... not sure if the cement screed is flat or not, you better ask Morgan to help you check.

seriously i should have push you for 2 more weeks for my new place to be slowly touch up. haha... I was played out by the previous Indian owner, my reno process was very rush; arrangement of various sub con group to come in is very precise, no time to waste and they must do a good job at first go or risk...

    Not that i don't wana give u more time...my wife u know women v anxious one...shhhh :help:

  10. No expert here. Not a contractor or ID but previously in this industry for quite a number of years.

About the slowness of his reno, i started reno on my 35 yo 3i on 12 March, i moved in on 16 April and I passed my 4A keys to denimart on the very evening, today is 23 May and his reno only completed the tiling of the kitchen and 2 bathroom, i personally find the process is kind of slow.

Alb, no choice also cos we last min then confirm the contractor job and floor too. No 3D drawing or any drawing we start oredi, never even choose material yet. All these were while doing while choosing material along the way. lol My hacking permit also last min approved. ha :yamseng:

  11. Me too, i also like that floor trap but was talk out by my designer cos he done a drop on the bath area instead of curb, not much floor thickness allowance left if use that floor trap, may jeopardize waterproofing and caused inconvenience to neighbor below.

That is 100% natural solid white oak plank, not engineered wood, laminates or vinyl.

Glad that taichipanda already help me answer this. thanks! :yamseng:

For those that pm me, i will get back to u guys later. Suddenly got flooded with pms overnite..lol I'm kindda slow replying here, am glad u guys can discuss things here. :yamseng:

Few years ago before we bought this place, we actually stay there for 1.5 years. I only heard from friends mention to me the zhi char store at cassia cresent was good however we never try it before. Weird i know, but maybe we got too many choice so this store never came to our mind when we are hungry. But wonder if it is still the same store many years before like my friend had mention?

  13. wow..tachipanda sounds like an expert in renovating...R u a contractor/ID? u give a lot of technical comments and also abt slowness..blah blah blah

    Hi Denimart,

Can oak withstand the humidity of singapore weather? Was told that teak is the preferred wood in singapore due to our local weather? Wld love to hear from Morgan becos I really love the calming colour of this oak you have chosen. Bet it will make the whole place looks bigger.

Morgan did done a test on white oak before exposing the wood in open sun and rain for 2 years and that piece of wood still survive till I saw it 2 months ago. I will try to answer part of the question based on my own opinion. Most contractor or ID they will advise u to take up Burmese or Indo teak becos that are the safest choice for "them" to suggest and since they are no wood expert they are not even sure of the other character of other wood species. In such case, they definitely will suggest something that they are v sure and safe since it concern their profession, end up they all will dissuade the owners to take up other wood other than Burmese or Indo teak. Sometime why every ppl think is safe also partly becos everyone is using...human nature tends to follow. I choose to believe the wood expert, so i end up visiting Morgan couple of times and he is v nice to spent so much time to explain the nature of these woods to me. I believe Morgan he will come in and explain more if he saw this topic. One last thing that even convince me even further, is when Morgan visit my place showing us the timber, my con happens to be there to listen and the moment he saw the timber he said "go ahead and take it"! It convinced me further becos even for a contractor who usually will stick to the norm will advise me to use white oak. At this moment, i am v sure this contractor share the same vision as me. :yamseng:

  14. Thnk U

Have intend to install Toshiba but dam thoes archi and designer make the A/C window so small that quite few A/C compressor can't fit in :furious:

BTW u staying in casa clementi :sport-smiley-004:

Your aircon ledge too small? I thought standard size..gee. I not staying in clementi at all, was in e east :)

  15. slowly steady. make sure you get everything right the way you want it to be.

anyway one advise from me. before the flooring guy starts laying, make sure they inspect the level of the concrete flooring to make sure it is absolutely flat.

I will check with my con again...hopefully is level flat loh. Alb, your floor flat onot? haha

But seriously i nv push my con v hard, is sort of an agreement that we give him ample time to coordinate. I rather he do good job. He did mention to me before, don't rush his tiler in this case they can lay my tiles nicely. :yamseng:
