  1. Wow ValerieLow you have super duper sharp eyes to spot the similarity in flat layout!! :sport-smiley-003: Thanks for the visit to my T-blog.

We actually threw the shelf away because hb said the exposed shelves are dust magnets. Wanted to give it away to Salvation Army but they rejected it as well.

Haha... not that I have sharp eyes, I visited that house before my reno started and you two have almost same layout as my flat.

Your reno is progressing well. I can't imagine having to prepare for wedding and reno at the same time! All your weekends must be really tiring and hectic.

  2. Wow, I'm looking forward to seeing the end result!

I'm also looking forward to doing it. Now waiting for the legs.

I was just reading all the posts in your blog... The other day I stopped at the post which you mentioned the study light. Today I went to Blisslite @ Jln Besar to buy lights, they have exactly the study light your hubby wanted.. But it's too late right? ;)

Thank you piknik. We saw quite a few along Geylang and Balestier lighting shops too, but those nice ones are not cheap, cheap ones are not nice. So difficult! :P

Anyway, we have put down the idea of having suspension lighting in the study room.

  3. I don't know how usually Alan works. But it seems like my hubby and I have a not fun time chasing after him. He didnt give us enough time to provide all details without missing this and that (as we were rushed into deciding). Then we don't know if we provide him with enough details so there is no mistake.. Then we gotta call and SMS him to make sure he is reminded of what have been confirmed..

Today, it turned out to be electrical wiring day. Luckily i sent a message to Alan early in the morning to remind him of our faux beam width and he called me back immediately bc he thought it was another size.. Hubby and I quickly drew detailed plan so Alan could show his electrical man. But Alan said no need, he got it right already.. My hubby is as usual, very doubtful. So he quickly ran to our flat and met the electrical guy. Poor thing. The guy was in a blur state.. So hubby explained everything to him. I think I either don't really care much abt Reno details or I totally trust Alan.. until it irritates my hubby. He found that there are just too many works for us to do to ensure things are done correctly.

We went to buy lights, as Alan told us to get them ready for next week installation. (why so fast huh? We don't even have the properly schedule from Alan yet) and we gotta called Alan a few times to make sure we bought the correct size for the downlights, which will be installed at one end of the faux beams.

Then came decision on ceiling fan. Saw haiku fan, found it ........ normal. I don't know, I have fancied this fan for so long through photos and I didn't know why I am quite unimpressed seeing it myself in real life. Maybe the shop is too cramped, too dark, too in-suitable for such a simple designer fan. The shop is selling it @ $950. Siao. I bought 3 KdK ones instead, at the shop next door, Blisslite, together with other lights.

Now the interesting part: one of the light shop we bought from will install their lights n the baby fan for us for FREE. Alan charges us $280 for whole house lighting. I didn't ask details at this previously as it never occurs to me that the lighting shop will install things for free. Should I ask Alan to minus these lights from his quote? It's two bathroom lights and a kitchen light. Hahaha... For whole house, we have 11 light points to install. Now I feel $280 for whole house lighting is ah hem.. expensive? 3 ceiling fans x $50 = $150 more. All these extra power point n relocating light point.... Hix..

From a planned budget of 12K for interior works, now it has reached $20K and beyond. We will be super broke at the end of the month.

Alan hasn't collected the 40% deposit (2nd payment) from us.

    Hi Piknik,

I just realised you also engaged Alan as your contractor. We do agree that Alan is very busy and forgetful at times. The way we dealt with him was that we took the initiative to ask him what is going to be done this week, and by end of the week we ask him what is going to be done next week, and so on. With this, we are very clear what to expect. Of course we didn't ask all the time, we only asked during those important milestone.. as we need to know by when we need to have all the lights ready, the kitchen appliances ready, the toilet accessories ready etc.

We also whatsapp him all the requirements, colour code, material we used. Unlike yours, we only discuss our kitchen cabinet 1 week before the carpenter started working on it, same as electrical points. We discussed it in the house so that he marked down all the points on where to place the switches, the electrical guy has no issue with it.

As long as you did message him your requirements, he can hardly go wrong with it, if he got it wrongly, he will change it for you, no worries. Have a happy reno journey! :yamseng:

By the way, my hubby dealt with him all the time, I'm the mastermind behind him. LOL nolah.. actually a lot of times I gave crazy ideas so hubby will try to "neutralise" it.

  4. where did u get ur bed from in the end? :P we tried Ikea, i quite like the simple design, but we need a bed frame with a full board below instead of planks as our mattress is 36cm and needs the support.. nothing looks/feel right although we've been to so many places.. :bangwall:

In the end we got our bedframe from ikea too. If I want to get those headboard with tufted buttons, I want it to be fabric and not leather, most of them out there are leather. And later I also found that with the tiny master bedroom, it is simply impossible for us to have such a bulky bed frame, and only ikea has a bedframe that is small enough for my room. By the way, if your mattress is very thick, it should be very heavy! I don't think the ikea bed slates can support it.

  5. Minimalist kitchen sink and tap.

ID chose this thin and slick kitchen solid top, as opposed to the thick ones.

    a1705aa8.jpg

I was pleasantly surprised they made it so thin, never understood why kitchen tops have to be so thick anyway.

Is there any advantage of making it thin? Or purely for aesthetic purpose? It is special.. :yamseng:

  6. I like this light. Anyone has any idea where to get it? Or what is it called?

    7336017376_8c2d5a171a_z.jpg

And we're still looking for our bed, actually, we've no idea WHERE to look for our bed. Nothing caught our eyes so far, NOTHING! Not even any potential one. I may check out Ikea's beds as I like the simple design..I kind of like this, but i've never seen it in shops here..

    7348698642_9fd8f8e50f_z.jpg

Sometimes, part of me do become worried about how the home will turn out. I like textures, and I basically chose to add all my favorite elements, with little regard if they would clash.. ;)

I was looking for this kind of bedframe! I like the headboard. You are right, it's really hard to look for the perfect one. I give up visiting those furniture shops all of them have the same modern contemporary feel.

  7. Doing some shopping for accessories. Going to be hacking the 2 toilets into one... unfortunately the pipes in between are in an awkward position so the toilet is going to be rather ...erm... awkward ...

    Hi rage,

I am also using the tap you shortlisted. Just wanted to say that this tap looks sleek but I don't like it because when we use our wet hands to turn off the tap, water from our hands will be dripping on the tap ledge and causing it to have water marks when it dried up. Every time after I wash my hands, I have to use a dry cloth to wipe the tap as I dislike seeing water stain on the tap. I find it quite inconvenient.

  8. ya, my electrolux washer quite quiet. i can hear the washer from my neighbour (upstairs or downstairs, i am not sure) but i can't even hear my own washer. only thing is the "finished" tone is quite irritating. Samsung have a nice melody. heheheeh....

front load will take abt 8-10 years before you need to replace so a long time more before you need to think abt buying another so better get used to it. hahahahah.....

my reno finished more than a year, and i am still here kay poh to see others' houses. hehehehehe.....

一分钱一分货lo, we used top load, cheaper version but bigger capacity, so far so good.

I agree with 一分钱一分货, so shouldn't complain much since we didn't pay much for that.. hehehe anyway, because we are thinking of renting out 1 room to a friend, we don't want to buy high end washer. This will be good enough until we decide we will be on our own.

  9. DIY Project

I couldn't find a decent sofa at an affordable price. I'm looking for a fabric sofa with tufted cushions and tapered legs. All of them are at the range of 1500 onwards. No budget, hence we look into ikea karlstad sofa and try to modify it. I have just ordered 4 mid century sofa legs from Uncle Bob's Workshop.

Hoping to receive the legs by end of July. We can then fit the legs to the sofa frame and start to tuft the cushions with buttons. :yamseng:

  10. Feel so sorry for you after seeing what you have posted. Don't get so worked up, let them enjoy for the last 4 days. If they don't move out or try to be funny, report to the police. Make sure they don't leave anything behind otherwise they will find lots of excuses to come back again. Seriously speaking, sometimes I also don't understand why some people want to sell the house but can't bear to leave the house. If they really love the house that much, don't sell it then.

Agree, the previous owner of my house kept telling us how much she loves the place etc.. the environment.. and I really wonder why would she go apply for new BTO then and compete with other buyers.

  11. Your previous owner really leave a lot of things behind for u to zap..

By the way, where can I get this magic sponge? I want to clean my kitchen back splash, it is stained Now I don't know whether it is paint or scratches.

  12. I like the way you place your washer below the table top! Good idea to hide it and also to store some laundry stuff.

Your grey door and louvre door really have the angmo house feel! Like your choice of doors! But are you going to remain that floor tiles? It will be fantastic if you go for laminated flooring.

Thanks TOpsy! I want a laundry cabinet, but too bad there's no way I can have it, that's why I have a small laundry table. :sport-smiley-004:

You are right, I will be installing laminated flooring. That will be a small project sometime end of the year. Now we need to save some cash.

Wonderful! That's one of the most happy moments and a relief as you no longer need to return to T-blog very often .. :thumbs up:

Haha.. I will still come back to T-blog, but not as often as during the reno process. I like seeing how people "build" their house from nothing to something. :thumbs up:

It is something very exciting, because all of us become the ID of our own house. :P

  13. Congrats!!! Enjoy hor.

I really like your backsplash. Saw these tiles at An Huat (or something. the one opposite Great World City). Super like the tiles there!

We are using the same washing machine right? Noisy right? heee

Thanks Neoby! Though we have moved in there are still minor touch up here and there and the house will never be clean for at least 2 weeks, I think. Moving is a tiring process. But now we will start the furnishing and decorating! Excited! :thumbs up:

Yes it is the same washing machine as yours, it is really noisy that we can hear it from the living room, the bedrooms (when the doors are open). I saw there is one "Sound Off" button.. wonder what is that? Hahaa can i just activate it to make it "silent mode". :P

I should have just top up another 200 to get an Electrolux Washer.

    Congrats moving in!

Your washer base so narrow in terms of the depth, I'm afraid the washer may drop out as Samsung washer vibrates really hard. I got the top load, it is not very noisy, but when the washer spins dry clothes, there is a loud vibrate and squeak sound, then it turns silent.... I found my washer shift its position itself.

Thanks Aya, the washer is sturdy.. it vibrates but it is not shifting position. The only thing that bothers me is the noise when it spins. Other than that, it is okay.

If your washer shifts position then you might want to check the legs to see if they are tightened?

Initially my Samsung front load WD also vibrate alot and move by itself.. Then I realised is the height of the leg not balance thus there is allowance for it to move/vibrate. Then I ask them to come back to adjust for me.. Then now very silent Liao, always spin dry at 1200 rpm - still in the same position.

Oh.. your washer is a combo of washer + dryer? Mine is a different model, it doesn't move by itself, but it has the screeching sound when it spins. During normal washing it is silent. :dunno:

  14. We just moved!

We just moved in on Saturday and here are some photos.

The main entrance. Part of the paint chipped off.

    The full kitchen view.

Laundry area. By the way, this washer is not good. It is really noisy.
