  1. Hey Valerie,

Thanks for sharing this, it's very sweet, I do like a turquoise and orange colour combination too! I like that mint green table lamp from the first pic too :)

You can probably purchase that lamp from Etsy :D

Hi Twinkie, yah, turquoise and orange is like the sea and the sun. Very soothing feeling! :thumbs up:

Etsy is definitely a good place to get inspiration. I think the lamp can be found in places like Hock Siong in Singapore. But, they are second hand though.

I'm more concerned on where to get nice printed fabric. :P

    Hi Valerie,

Can i have the contact for above 3 contractor? Newbie here..want to do reno but dunno where to start from..

    Thanks in advance!

Hi Narnia, I have PMed you Alan and Dennis's contact. As for Andrew's contact, May has PMed you.

With that wall tiles, I think it will turn out Fab! I passed by that tile shop so many time and I kept telling myself, I wish I had a corner in my hse that I can used that. But never thought of putting them on the wall. You r brilliant!

Haha, is your house under renovation? Why you can't find a corner to have these tiles?

I actually got the inspiration from this site. Their tiles are a lot nicer!

  2. If you just wanna buy few things, then no point to go for Hoyoyo's sea shipment, but can consider below:

    Hoyoyo's air @ CNY45/1st KG, CNY28/subsequent KG

    65Daigou's air @ SGD7/500g, SGD3/500g

For 65Daigou, they will still charge you 8% handling fee plus home delivery charges, whereas hoyoyo earns on exchange and the delivery charges you paid is till your doorstep.

The air one is a bit expensive.. I used this EAexpress last time when I bought my wedding gown from Shanghai. $2.50 for the 1st 500g.

Now i just realised they also have sea shipping which is also cheap, 1cbm 580RMB. Door-to-door service but have to pay your own GST.

  3. Yalo also dunno y..tried uploading doh Peng but also same result..sianzzzz

Fendi nice ah? U like LV? They have it also :) heard they coming out with PRADA design soon

I like the Fendi monogram print on the sofa and carpet.. haha but if LV monogram printed on the sofa i think it's funny leh... no? :sport-smiley-004:

  4. Hi Valerie,

I don't think there's a single green finger amongst the 6 adults that's going to live in the house... we don't want a plant massacre at my backyard. haha... we plan to only have a frangipani tree in front & perhaps some bamboo, or any plants that do not have alot of creepy crawlies... pls suggest if you know of any!

Yes we cook 5 days a week, so also looking to get a good hob, any recommendations?

We're splitting the utility into a maid's room & playroom. Maid's room entrance will be hacked & is beside the toilet, so quite convenient liao?

Bamboo is elegant! I love! But need to control the spread of bamboo. May not be an easy task. My mom also wanted to plant bamboo in the garden but she thinks that there is lots of effort involve to maintain it and to control the bamboo from overgrowing.

Haha i'm also not a person with green fingers. But I admire people with great garden landscape.

bedroom - this is pretty similar to our current layout. i love beds like this, but apart from ikea i don't seem to see it anywhere. if anyone have any idea, please let me know!

Maybe you would like to check out Muji. They have wooden bed frame like this.

  6. The idea of chalkboard paint in the kitchen is good! You can scribble grocery items shopping list. Fun! :dribble:

Hi Topsy, yeah, that's the purpose of chalkboard wall! It'll be useful for us to write down messages, or grocery items. :dancingqueen:

Can't wait to see your kitchen

Hi Aya, I hope the carpentry will be up next week. We all look forward to the kitchen. That's the only place with carpentry haha.. the other parts of the house are rather plain looking.

  7. Week 5 17//05/2012

Painting is done! The doors have been painted gray. I'm quite satisfied with this paint. But it could be better if the paint is matte rather than glossy. Contractor said for matte paint, there are only 2 colours - white or black. No choice then. :dunno:

Something is missing for the door - the handle! We are planning to change the door handle to gold.

The Master Bedroom indented wall has a new paint.

Bedroom doors are also painted gray. I was hoping to hang a wreath on each door during festive season!

  8. Week 5 16/05/2012

Last 2 days, no one was working.

I guess because they worked too hard during the weekend so they were off for the past two days.

Today, the first coat of paint was up. It really brightens the house. :thumbs up:

All these are our hood, hob, sink and lightings. They have all arrived and the workers placed them in the 2nd bedroom.

Good that they cover them with plastic bag.

    DSC01015.jpg

The wall between the storeroom and the kitchen will be painted with chalkboard paint.

  9. Hi Val, my bathroom floor tiles are actually grey..only the wall tiles are light beige. They looks normal color in the daylight but if at night i turn on the existing light in the bathroom. Gee...the whole bathroom tiles looks light pinkisk beige??! Thats the moment i got confuse that both our tiles looks very similar..haha. I upload here for u to see, hope u dont mind. I guess is close but not same right? I shoot under normal daytime.

    DSCF2065.jpg

P/s: i will take down the pic after u seen :)

I guess the texture of our tiles are quite similar but I prefer your tiles, lighter colour.

I agree about the colour differences under different lighting conditions. My bathroom tiles appeared to be light gray when we viewed it under the showroom down lights. But under normal day light, it turns brownish gray. I'm still ok with the colour so i didn't ask to change. Just let it be, after sometime we won't care about the bathroom tiles anymore.. :sport-smiley-004:

  10. Very nice layout! If I were you, I will want to have a nice little garden at the backyard. Hehee, but to be more practical a wet kitchen is a good idea if you do lots of cooking. By the way, are you going to build an entrance to the toilet from the utility room? I feel that's much more convenient for the maid or whoever sleeps in that room.

  11. Ya, the agent will upload the volumetric of the item, if not you can ask them to calculate for you and you will see when you login.

I just talked to the Hoyoyo agent, seems like unless i have lots of items to ship, otherwise air shipping is a cheaper alternative. Cos I want to buy a small table fan which is only 35cm x 30cm x 20cm. If ship by sea, they need a minimum of 0.5cbm, and they won't let us know the size of each item unless we pay them CNY 5 per item for them to measure and let us know how much space left for the 0.5cbm.

Then sometimes talk to the taobao seller, they just don't want to tell you what is the size of the packaging. Really need lots of patience!

  12. Today I was at my place again looking at my bathroom floor tiles, suddenly i recall your bathroom floor tiles...I was like..."Aaaaa, no wonder I said I like your tiles!!! Omg cos our floor tiles could possibly be the same or similar???!" lol

Hi denimart, I thought your bathroom floor tiles are light beige? Mine is towards brownish gray.

Upload your floor tiles see whether same or not? Hehe

  13. Your MBR is really a challenge. What does your ID suggest?

Probably you can do a wardrobe with pole system and curtains as door, so that the space is not taken up by doors, can save a few cm :P . At the same time you won't feel so overwhelmed by the big wardrobe in front of you when sleeping.

How about your living room? I feel that is a challenge too with the space constrain.

  14. Colour Tone

Since most of the walls in the flat will be white, I'm thinking to add splashes of colour to my furniture and decor. I would like to share some nice colour combinations that I like.

    Orange and turquoise

Both are vibrant colours on the opposite palette but if the colours are pale, they are really a perfect combination!

    a-7.jpg

    Grey and Yellow

Grey is cool and neutral while yellow is fun and exciting! They complement each other just like hubby and me. We have very different personalities!

  15. One of my favourite parts: Choosing Tiles

Living/Dining + Dry Kitchen (sorry it's upside down). The dry kitchen tile is a wood-plank sort 15x60cm in distressed wood colour (which I love) & less slippery in a food prep area.

    img2426a.jpg

Congrats OnTheRoad! I recognise your dry kitchen wood-plank tile, as I shortlisted that for my kitchen previously but couldn't make use of it as it doesn't match my kitchen backsplash. And yes, this wood plank tile is really lovely!

Looking forward to your reno! Post your floor plan if can.
