  1. How do you open the top highest cabinet? Flip up only?
  2. Yes i did! It's in their drawing as well. I only found out this problem when carpenter raise this up to me. He also mentioned its too high and too heavy. I think have to use the same hinge as yours then? May i ask what hinge did you use for the one on top? I have the Hafele catalog, got it during the IFF exhibition. Their prices are quite close, for hinges and Aventos series, blum is cheaper. Drawer units and internal drawers are almost the same prices (diff by few dollar). My carpenter tells me not waste money, he will do all the external drawers using blum soft closing runner and ask me to get only the internal drawers for him to instal. He is also helping me to do the undersink drawer that works the same as blum.
  3. Heee heee...tiling will be starting soon for us, do read thru other articles as well.
  4. I realise from the final drawing that the upper cabinets goes all the way to the ceiling with little access at the top. That means I will have problem opening my Aventos HF! The bi-fold area will definitely hit the ceiling and I might not be tall enough to pull it back down
  5. I spend all of my brain cell planning for the kitchen cabinet configuration. And since it is my personal space, i know exactly what i want and which hinge system to use. This is what i draw for my IDs... The final position is slightly different with both the right side full side cabinet and cooking stove to be moved to the left side. Till now i'm still thinking of the usage of the cabinet space, where my pots and pan be store, the spices rack, drying rack and etc etc... I'm still deciding whether to hide my drying rack behind the top carbinet or using back my existing standing rack?? I'm not very tall and if i have to dry it at the cabinet, i might need to tip toe and water may flow down to my elbow and to my ........

  8. I am doing some researching over the net and chance upon some useful and informative publications from the BCA website. There are 2 publications "Design and matertial for Quality" vol 1 & 2 that talks about how different materials or different design give you better quality work! I find alot of tips from there, and it helps to provide me with a little more knowedge when checking the reno work! So if you got time, do go and take a look. Extracted from the publication - for marble tiles, it is better to used non-sand type of grout as the sand grout type will Scratch the polished marble.
  9. The larder units are their most expensive range of drawer. The cost for the silver grey range from $76 - $108 per unit depends on the height and weight required. The silk white color from this brochure range from $103 - $$123. I have total 9 larder units, plus other normal drawer, way exceeded my budget. Got to cut down and thinking of other mechanism, maybe be change to wired basket type. Got to do a little bit more research.
  10. Sounds like the emperor's new clothes.... Heeee heeee heeee
  11. I don't think it will look nice because of the edging. Parquet still looks better and can match the existing parquet in the 2nd level. Only bathroom progressing well. We are still pending HDB approval for the hacking of main entrance and study wall.
  12. Because we want to be assured of the quality.
  13. Thanks Potatoes for cheering me up! Feel better although still bleeding.
  14. Went down to blum showroom, showed them my kitchen plan and requested for their quotation. Wanted to know what would be the total damages. They really have a good customer service, i was initially confused with their difference type of systems, but the showroom man is really patient and explained every single mechanism to me. Even their hinges are solid and all comes with lifetime warranty. I am really impressed! If anyone of you have time, you should pay a visit to their showroom. I think they are having promotion for their accessories, didnt really check it out but if I'm not wrong, its like $280 for box of different types of holder, such as utensils, spices, knife etc etc. Now I just hope the quotation fits my budget!! I will need to find a good qualified carpentar to do it. Anyone can recommend a really good workmanship carpentar??? I got these info from the blum App Store...
  15. Bathroom very crowded. Total there are 5 workers working on differeng areas!! And time to say goodbye to the pipes! Be nice and stay dry!
  16. PD door vs Besglas Door Our common toilet is very small, so it will be really wet after shower or doing laundry. The entrance to it is right beside the kitchen window, and a laminated door with a wooden frame just doesn't make sense, just waiting for it to rot! The inital design of the laminated door was to flush with our wall design. But decided to be practical and go for aluminium door instead. Having compared both, we decided to go for besglas. We find that besglas has a better quality and is firmer when handling. It has a nicer design in my opinion, at least when it closed, both panels are flat. I was quite surpise that te door opens seamlessly, unlike those usual noisy bi-fold door, and we prefer the simple mechanism, pull/push open. We went to PD door showroom, some of them are quite run down and giving problem closing it already. I can imagine how our door will looks like after a few years, we also don't like their design. Both panels are not in line when closed. So PD door not suitable for our toilet door, but i think it is great for the bigger panel like at the balcony or use as divider. Besglas PD
  17. Wow, he's so nice! But he must be nice to you lah, so that you can continue refer business to him.
  18. Contractor initially quoted us for new parquet, minor repair along the corridor and polishing. But after taking down the railing, we feel that the damage is not as bad so we told repair it instead. The stairs are later protected with sheets but one day we went to visit and the parquets are all gone!!! Yes. Its definitely double the cost for redoing! The electrician already started working on the wiring, so i suppose shld be confirmed... Hee hee Headache now!
  19. The program is in the hyperlink, a free and simple program. Scan your floor plan and you can start playing with it.
  20. You can start taking down notes while drooling, it really helps when your time arrival. I know about this site abit too late, if not I will be more informed!
  21. Our previous owner also had a small little pot of plant irrigated by their aircon... Hahahaha... But when we install our new air-con, installer said better run pipe to toilet so i can start my mini plantation.
  22. Our contractor without our permission strip bare all the timber strip of the staircase. We wanted to keep the parquet and only repair the damanged side but now we got to re-do the whole staircase!! He claimed that the cost of re-doing the stair is about the same as repairing it, but I seriouslt don't think so!!
