Swags and tails are a classical style of dressing for bay windows. This style is ideal for traditional and modern homes because you can make the swags as ornate or a simple as you wish. Making a feature or focal point of a bay window is a great way to add the ‘wow’ factor to your home. Swags and tails can be an ornate and elaborate window dressing which offers a stylish and professional look to your bay. If you opt for made to measure curtains many retailers will also install them for you which will save you the hassle of trying to get the evenness of the swags along with ensuring the looping effect is identical on all curtains. However, this doesn’t mean that you can’t fitted swags and tails yourself, because you can! Just ensure that you have the right style of curtain track in place, combined with a little bit of patience and care Modern homes can benefit from the simplest swathes of curtain fabric looped over curtain poles to create a stunning window dressing. For this type of dressing you’ll also have to consider using blinds or voiles if you don’t want passers-by looking into your home. You can also go theatrical and create a window dressing which incorporates an abundance of full length curtains, swags or a covered pelmet, and ornate tie-backs. Think along the lines of manor houses and stately homes where bay window curtains consist of luxury fabrics with bobble trims, and immaculate swags and bows. This extravagant style looks at its best on large bay windows as it can cut-out a considerable amount of light, however, the overall look is elegant and sophisticated. Another variation on this window dressing style is to only use swags – these are created by looping the swags over curtain poles – there are no curtains as such as this window dressing is purely for show. As mentioned above you’ll have to use voiles or contrasting coloured curtains if you want to be able to draw curtains at night or need daytime privacy. Modern homes can use the same swag effects and rather than use medium weight curtain fabrics substitute these for floaty sheers or voiles – this alternative is perfect for small bay windows. Think about the size of your bay, how much light you need, the overall effect and impact you want your bay windows to make on your rooms before you make your final decision as to which style of swags and tails to use.

The right curtains can enhance the beauty and atmosphere of any room. Knowing your window measurements and color schemes will help you decide which curtains are right for you. First: Measure the windows you need curtains for before you go shopping, so you know which type and size to get. Make precise measurements of how large the windows are, how far they are from floors and ceilings and how far out your curtain rod will go. The type of curtain you want will require a specific measurement; curtains with tabs will hang directly from the curtain rod, whereas ruffled curtains will have fabric above the rod as well. There are also different lengths of curtains. Some will come to the windowsill, and others can be bought to drape to the floor. Measure all distances carefully to avoid excess or too little fabric. Second: Take note of the color scheme and layout of your room. Choosing the best curtains will require that you find ones that complement the colors of the walls and style of furniture in the room. Buy curtains that will neither overwhelm nor understate your style or cause problems with the room design; floor-length drapes in a room with antique furniture will make the room complete, whereas the same curtains in a child's room will mostly be a tripping hazard Third: Decide what style of curtain will best complement the design and function of your room. Have a specific idea in mind for what sort of overall effect you want the curtains to have. There are catalogs of styles from which to choose; Venetian blinds are excellent for rooms where controlling light levels is important, whereas dark, sill-length drapes might be preferred in a room where privacy is desired.

Measuring Wallpaper and Carpets. For wallpaper , we need the square meter of the wall to be covered. First measure the distance around the room or distance of the wall you want to cover. Then measure the height of the wall ceiling. For example if the distance you want to cover is 12 meter (for 3 mt x 3mt room), and the height ceiling 2.6 meter, then wall square meter is 12x2.6= 31.20 M2. Next we wanna know how many roll of wallpaper needed. It is simply divided the wall square meter, with the wallpaper square meter. Standard wallpaper size is 0.50 meter x 10 meter. it can cover 5 M2 wall. We may also need to deduct 10% from the wallpaper, for pattern matching, so due to pattern cut allowance, the wallpaper can cover only 4.5 M2 wall now. From the example given 31.20 M2 wall, we use how many roll? (standard size wallpaper 0.50mtx10mt) 31.20 m2 : 4.50 m2 = 7 Roll (always round it up) For Carpet, we need the square meter of the floor to be covered. If we have the floor plan, just look at the diagram, to get the square meter of the floor. (see the below example). and Add 10% to the total. This makes allowances for seams and other extra carpet needed to complete the job.

How to measure your window for curtain/binds Basically the main principle when measuring is simple. It just talks about how long the width and the height do you want/need. Our own standard when measuring width, we always add 10 cm extra to left and another 10 cm extra to right. So the measurement we get from the window width + 10 cm left + 10 cm right. The height, we always start at the top, adding 15 cm from the top window frame, and drop it until the 2 cm above floor (for full length “A”), or until 10-20 cm below window frame (“B”), or just fit 2 cm below the window frame (“C”). (see picture) Maybe you already have the curtain track/pole, just follow like the second picture
