  1. thanks! :) I notice having black photo frames on wall is a Scandinavian design too. Nice!

Hee..is it Scandinavian? Think it's quite common in ang moh homes in US and Europe..sometimes it's on walkways or below stairs area..many different styles..some have all different frames..we had a hard time deciding frame color, whether or not the sizes and frames are similar, what shape on the wall etc..Pinterest has many inspirations!

  2. hi, where do you buy your photo frames from? :)

    Hey

We bought it from everywhere! Because we wanted different sizes, different designs but all black..some were spray painted black..some were from Daiso and spotlight, some from Ikea and marks & spencer and Bangkok..

  3. Hi theitsybits

Like your house design. You must have travel a lot to have these simple European taste.

I am getting my keys in Punggol next month. Can you Pm me the contact of your contractor k?

Also pm the name and hp number ( just in case he change company) of your carpentry contractor that does the bad job for you just in case I kanna the same one. Your pm mailbox is full.

    Thanks

    Ho

Hello thanks! I studied a year in Sweden and really love the homes there.. =)

Will pm you my contractor..he has done pinkwhale, paloma, bigbull, kk85 and dancingintherain homes too..

As for bad contractors, sometimes it's better to do a simple search on google the company name, ID name and boss's name on the internet for a due dilligence and feel with your heart..they can easily close down and reopen another company to hire new IDs or change hp numbers..

  4. hi guys, thanks for reading.

Just an update, we got a mediator who has helped to call the contractor. He referred the contractor to us previously but we really didn't want to go back and trouble him as we know that he is a busy man. But we really don't know what else to do anymore. Anyway, after his conversation with the contractor, he suggested that we do our checks and e-mail the list of defects to the contractor and arrange for a date to rectify them. The problem here is we already did and he flew the aeroplane on us! And when we tried to contact him to arrange another date, we can't get him anymore. Now he paint the picture so nice, like we didn't do our checks and didn't e-mail him the defect list. :furious: never mind.... in order to settle this, we will swallow this and e-mail him soon to arrange a date. Hopefully the mediator talked some sense into him.

We read your t-blog too theitsybits. We're sorry that you have to go through all that too. Yeah, money and profits are what they are after. They can do all sorts of things that are against their conscience, if they still have one. We hope our post didn't make you upset all over again. You have a beautiful home nevertheless and you should be proud of it. :)

Buttercap, we don't have photos of the latest defects. It got really tiring to take so many defect photos after a while. But we do have some pictures that shows the kind of workmanship that was presented to us as completed works.

Close up of paint crack/drop at the whole set of plaster beading.

Cracked laminate. Check out the edges above it too. The laminate is supposed to be dark brown/black. The whole stretch of lighter parts are all damaged edges of the laminate.

These ppl are good at shirking responsibility and will end up blaming you for their mistakes..I would advise you to take photos and keep records of all correspondence including emails and SMS just in-case..it will not change their attitude nor improve things but at least you have something to substantiate and prove your claims..last thing you want is for them to deny everything and blame it all on you with nothing to prove your story..

  5. hey i feel you..and there are too many of such contractors/IDs around..it's simply appalling, and it all boils down to $$ and profits..the same contractor can close down their existing company and open another with a different name and still continue to be in business..

going to CASE wouldn't help much and it'll simply be a long-drawn battle that will drag for a long time..you need to consider if it's worth your time and more stress or to find a solution to rectify things to satisfaction and start enjoying your new home..sometimes money can solve some problems and avoid more stress and CASE may not even recover any amount..having gone through this myself, i would say people capable of such acts will amazingly shrink all responsibility and claim you're the unreasonable one..

give some thought and see if it's possible to get someone else to salvage existing carpentry and repaint the place?

  6. Thanks for your well wishes! Happy to see you drop by my t-blog, got lotsa inspiration from yours! :)

How's the sofa going for you, everything ok? It's on my sofa shortlist :sport-smiley-018:

    i flock to mid-modern/industrial/scandinavian blogs..still looking for ideas.. :D

i love my sofa! it's really comfy and i fall asleep on it often..

i think it's a good piece for a balance between comfort and mid-modern style..as much as i love those mid-modern sofas, they are usually so uncomfortable and only for sitting, not falling asleep or lounging in them..plus it's cheap..more budget for the other wood furniture.. :P

  7. Congrats!!! Cosy colorful hm...

My Reno... Almost die of heart attack.... Nothing has been done right!!!!

oh no..don't sound good..but don't worry, things will turn out fine..somehow..

Very Nice colour coordination!! You have good taste!

    Congrats on your reno completion!

    thanks thanks!

    Hi theitsybits,

Your renovation and furnishing ideas are amazing. Could you PM me your contractor's contact number please. Understand that he is occupied through Feb 13 but my renovation should start sometime mid next year.

    Thanks in advance.

okies pm-ed! it's better to meet him at site.. =)

    Morning!

Glad that your home is turning out to be bery bery beautiful!

I was just wondering y ur living room lightings sometimes look orangy and sometimes look white in the photos? Is it bcos ur cove or downlights r able to switch between the 2 colours?

all my lights are warm white except for my toilet, study, guest room and kitchen cabinet t5..i guess it's the white balance of the camera? but my living room looks whiter than my room, maybe because of the white walls..

    very in love your home.

thanks..! collect all the ideas you like and create your own home! :D

  8. Have been kept really busy this month, this is how the home looks like now. The photo wall is up! But the coffee table was on loan from Lorgans as our shipment was delayed and needed it for our pre-wedding shoot at home.

Still have not got our bed frame! Looking forward to the furniture from Lorgan's and getting the bed frame before getting side tables to complete the home! :P

  9. My wife was at our new place waiting for the delivery of some items. She got bored and decided to take some pictures.

A section of the floor. The floor is covered by carton sheets and she didn't want to remove everything. So apologies, only have this picture of the floor for the time being.

    IMG_6081_zps4354b627.jpg

Somethings we bought. Day Shot. The veneer flooring with the brickwall seems to blend in very well...

    IMG_6075_zpseb17fb32.jpg

More things. Day Shot. We are going to leave the brick wall raw. As in, we are not going to paint it.

    IMG_6078_zpsc8d2d659.jpg

A lot more things. Night Shot.

K said the plumber will come this Thursday. HAPPY... :D

I was eyeing the fan and that bin from Ikea!

  10. Ya, tat was 1 of the reason why I cant engage him as my contractor...plus his quote is too high for me to accept... :bangwall:

He was me and my SO fav contractor, but guess met him at the wrong time... :dunno:

    Sorry to hear that =(

I'm sure there are other good contractors around!

  11. Hi Itsy

May I have Mr K details and the carpentry as well? Will be getting my keys on the 14th and still not yet planned anything... :bangwall:

    hey

i heard from other forumers who approached Mr K recently and was told that his carpentry's queue is till Feb 2013 now..if you're not in a hurry i can share his contact..that's also what i like about Mr K, he's upfront and tells you what he can or cannot do..no empty promises just to sign on more customers and than under-deliver..

  12. Hi Itsybits! I'm new to the renovation process and am so inspired by your place. Just want to ask how's the smell in your house whenever you cook in your open plan kitchen? I love open plan kitchens but don't like the food smell to linger in the whole house... *want the best of both worlds, haha :P

It's not an issue for me, mainly because my place is very windy..I usually open all the windows and doors so smell does not linger..I don't really deep fry and use the hood, so it's really not like how some describe the whole house with smell and grime..and I cook about 3 times a week..

I suppose it depends if the air in your place is still? If air moves in and out quickly it should be ok..which comes back to my love for bright and airy kitchen/living area.. =)

  13. Hi there!

Mind to share what is the color/laminate code for your wooden frame?

    Thank you in advance!

    Hello

Mine is not done with laminates, they are solid plywood stick together, sanded and lacquered.

But do note that there's different grade for solid plywood..Paloma and pinkwhale has used the same method but their layering and joints at 90 degrees are alot nicer..my joints were badly done and there are many holes in between layers..

  14. Oic. Yup. Was looking at domino hob by Bosch. Cos it comes with frame so it wun crack tat easily. Besides the design is sleek but at a price.

I heard abt storage heater not having enuf pressure for rain showers. In any case, there are even gas heaters nowadays.

the last time i asked, i was told Bosch uses 16amp, which was why i got electrolux without second thought (it's 15amp within HDB's limits)..but my neighbor using Bosch told me that it's 15amp..i was looking at the side by side instead of top-bottom one..not very sure but you can confirm..

btw for domino hobs, do note the distance between the hobs..as if they are too near and you use chinese woks or big pots, you may not have space to use both at the same time..

i think storage heaters are the best bet compared to other heaters..but well, we don't use rain showers that often after all.. :P

  15. Mind sharing the price of the hob? Any review?

I think it was 1099 from Audiohouse..

No complaints about it..have you used induction before? The feel is quite different from stove fire and cooking is controlled by tenperature..your pots and pans must be induction use (as long as magnet attracts the pot)..

Good thing is no heat lost and things boil alot faster..it's arguably safer too as heat stops once pot leaves surface automatically and does not burn your hand when u touch it..

  16. Hi theitsybits,

I love ur place with all the brick walls & open-concept kitchen, esp with the walls between kitchen & service yard hacked down. It really looked spacious!

Would you mind to pm me K's contact. I am always hearing raving reviews about him.. TIA. 

Btw, may I check if u r using induction hob? From Taiyo? Was thinking of installing it for my new place as well but was looking at 3 hobs from Bosch. It is 30AMP so I gotta check with HDB if possible to install it.

And I did not notice the type of waterheater tat u r using. Is it water tank for your rainshower? Mind to comment on the water pressure & heat for both showers?

    Thank you so much!!

    hello

i love bright and spacious living rooms as it's where your guests would mingle..

i'm using induction, Electrolux 2-hobs. There are only a few models which could be used in HDB - Taiyo, Electrolux and there's a Bosch 2-zone that is either 15/16amp..

I'm using jovan storage heater as we've 2 rain showers at home..no issue with heat but pressure isn't that strong though not exactly weak..

  17. Hi Miss Itsybits,

are the wooden floor tiles actually normal ceramic tiles that look like wood? Does it trap dirt easily and do they have a smooth texture ?

    Thanks in advance !!

yes, they are normal ceramic tiles with wood grains..i suppose like other homogenous tiles, they come in different textures and if it's not very rough it wouldn't trap dust easily..mine is not that smooth and suitable for kitchen too..trapping dust wise, not too sure about that since dust is hardly visible with the grains.. :P
