  1. Hi theitsybits,

Have been following your blog for a long time and hope everything turned out fine for you and yr husband. Think yr house really fits the scandinavian theme well with your oak furniture and large doses of white (from kitchen cabinets to brick walls to doors). As I am also enamored by the scandinavian theme, would like to ask if the "whiteness" is difficult to maintain? So far so good?

Also love the Louvre doors for your toilet. Was thinking of doing frosted swing door for mbr toilet but if space is a constraint, think we will opt for the Louvre doors. Can check with you if the door is very expensive?

    Hey thanks!

White walls are more difficult to maintain i suppose..u've to be careful with dirty hand prints..especially for my bay window where people sit and touch (we did not do anything just paint)..

We would have likes other doors too, but space was a constraint so we settled for the lourve pd door..we paid abt 400 for it..I think my contractor did not mark this up from supplier as it was added later on..it's aluminum sprayed white..

  2. That's what I heard. Since they only open by appointment, there's no harm emailing them to enquire :)

Ah, 2/3 length of sofa... didn't know that. My coffee table is very long, 1m, so am thinking if I should go with 1.5m for TV console, or longer like 1.8

What are the lengths of your TV console and sofa?

My wall is 2.4m, console 1.9m , sofa 2.1m and the coffee table is 1.2m..

  3. Enjoyed readin ur super long blog.. Took 2days to read it.. Wifey sometimes angry as y im so engrossed readin over the phone.. Hehe.. Ur story is indeed an inspiration for me to do a more detailed research for ID/contractor.

Hope u dont mind sharing Mr K contact.. And ur carpentar's info..

    Thanks a million..

hey thanks :P yea, it's good to do some research, even just simple one like google the company name/ID name for a quick due diligence check..then like all things else, follow your heart

  4. The corner turning is also from ikea and your hubby fixed it ah? Casa windows so problematic... ;p

They were 2 rods meeting at 90 degrees..no gaps.. =p I supposed curtain makers can do the corner turning pretty well..blinds will have the meet 90 degrees too..

  5. Hey gal, wanna check with you, how long is your TV console? Cos i intend to get the same sofa as you, not sure if i should match console length with sofa length... And I forgot to measure length of the sofa at the shop

Speaking of Room of woods, you may wanna make appt or email them to enquire, cos I heard they are having clearance sale of current stock. I haven't been there though.

Sofa is 2.1m and console is 1.9m..the brick wall behind console is 2.4m..

Maybe I shd drop them a note though I'm not sure how much they've left and we're really busy with the wedding and housewarmings coming up.. =)

  6. nice! your bed looks grand. the change of curtain also gave your room a very different feel.

for the tables, did you try room of woods? but I think for them, also need to wait some months for it to be made overseas then delivered.

thanks thanks..haven't been to them, but it's probably also a 3 weeks wait and stocks similar items.. not sure if we want to wait another many weeks..

    hey babe!

how does your curtain rods look like? Can you please share where and how much you got it too? Thanks! :dancingqueen:

they were all from ikea..very cheap..like 4.90 and 6.90 due to length..and the brackets were like 3.90? curtains were really budget for us.. :P

  7. I like your curtain! Where did you have it made?

Hmm, not sure if I mentioned to you before about Second Charm? They have nice pencil legs side tables in teak wood, duno if you fancy teak or not :sport-smiley-018:

i made it at Spotlight when it had a 20% off custom-made curtains..the one we got from taobao was slightly sheer and we replaced the MBR one..i love the unique and slightly retro prints with my favorite turquoise color too.. :D

okies will check it out! thanks! :thumbs up:

  8. The bed frame finally came!! Our room finally feels like a room, but it does make the room look smaller though..

    8258117554_878e38dde0_z.jpg

i think it was quite near to what i had in mind all along..and our MBR has only a king sized bed and nothing else at the moment..i prefer the bedroom to feel spacious and hotel-like comfy.. :P

The Lorgan's smile table and papa bear chair was supposed to be delivered on Saturday, but after changing the timing and confirmations, the delivery guy called us on Saturday and said that 'his van wouldn't start and would not be able to deliver it this weekend, will set timing again..but we went down in the afternoon to pay and look for side tables, the sales guy recognized us and said that our furniture just arrived and will arrange for delivery soon as they are short-handed this weekend.. :dunno::unsure:

so..we didn't manage to find our side tables and are still waiting for the furniture that we ordered in September, 3 whole months before! i think we'd better get our side tables from somewhere else instead of waiting for another 3 months.. ;)

any idea where can we get nice pencil legs side tables for our bed? :D

  9. oh nice, great choice of wood! more unique and indeed compliment well.

thanks! i love it too, and i'd better since it cost a small fortune.. :P

thanks for the info. did you use the hook type or the tape type (think they have those where you tape the back of the frame against the wall)?

not sure how good the plaster work of my contractor is, though it looks pretty flat and level. before I bought this place, i saw a house where the plaster fell out and the surface feels hollow, not sure what the owner did. anyway, I think I would use 3m for places where I want to do photo collage, and still do the screwing/nailing for larger/heavier photos.

for the photowal, we used the velcro type..for the puzzles and pictures, we used the hooks type..all of them are taped to the wall..

Hi, can pm me your contractor's contact? Thanks.

    pm-ed.

You can use 3M for plaster walls, just that when u take it out, the plaster will come off together since plaster is weak. I would personally prefer to drill.

hmm, i would think that weather or not the plaster comes out depends on the workmanship of the contractor..

i personally do not like to drill and leave marks on the walls for ease of moving the paintings/pictures..moreover, walls do crack after many years, sometimes along the drill holes..

    Hi Itsybits,

My boyfriend and I really love your flat and your cute dachshund! The xmas tree really made your house look extra cosy.

We have a dog of our own too and would be renovating our flat next yr. We would really appreciate it if you could give us the contacts of Mr K and the total cost of your renovation.

    Thank you so much!

    hee thanks..pm-ed.

    Hello,

Really pretty home! I am looking for reno works for my new flat and want to do the brick wall too.

Mind to share with me the contact of your contractor, Mr K, and his company?

Hope to hear from you soon and thank you so much for the attention.

    :)

    thanks! pm-ed..

    Home now looks like this:

    Hi itsybits,

This is such a nice picture, love your furry Dachshund, he looks so cute here :)

thanks..he's one cute and playful boy..

Nice, ur house is very colorful! did u paint the brickwall white in the end or u left it raw? any issue with the grouting/ powder lindering? thanks!

colorful? i didn't think of it that way, since my walls are only painted white and grey for MBR and no other colors..but i do love colorful deco though.. :P

i left it raw, without painting it..thinking that i can paint it if i get sick on it someday..no issues with the grouting, although it's slightly powdery to the touch, nothing flies around..i dust it with the magic clean duster.. :D

  10. Nice! I like the first shot, looks so cozy. and lovely tv console too, it looks like a lighter shade than the usual ones I see.

yea, we customized it using oak wood instead of the usual teak to compliment the scandinavian feel.. :D

  11. My coffee table is teak, already bought it. Just nice, match the teak TV console I am eyeing! :dribble: Do you find your tiles a bit on the yellowish brown side? I will be getting wood-like tiles also, but not sure what colour tone to get yet.

hmm i like it 'blond'..i don't like red (may look old) nor pale tones (look cold) and find yellowish brown more cosy..all along my idea of scandinavian style was 'blond' wood with white walls with colorful deco, pencil legs furniture..

go visit some showrooms, soon bee huat and hafary has quite a good collection..for me, the choice was obvious.. :P

    Hi itsybits

Do you know if for plastered walls of old houses, ok to use 3m? I wanted to use that cos I dunno how to drill holes into the walls, but a few people told me it will fall out as mine is old walls.

    cheers

    originalbread

hmm i would say yes, no problem la! i hang all sorts of things, even 1000 pieces puzzle with wood/glass frames (using 2 2,2kg hooks)..

3M sticks well to flat surfaces..so if your plastering was done well (to level/flatten the wall), it should not be an issue..plastering is supposed to level your wall anyway!

unless your plaster drop down from the wall? :o

  12. So sweet, your first pic! Congrats, your tv console is finally here. It is looking really good! :sport-smiley-004: I'm eyeing a Mid Century-ish piece from Second Charm, made of solid teak wood.

Not sure if you mentioned before, but how did you hang the photo frames onto the wall? Using nails, those 3M stuff or something else?

I got my sideboard customized in oak wood, as my dining and sideboard was oak.. =p

Yes! I love 3M, they must have earned so much $$ from us..and amazingly those things stay for years unlike other brands..we used the Velcro ones..so u can actually take the frames down to change photos wo damaging it..

the 3ft mini xmas tree we got for our bay-window..doesn't take up extra space and keeps our dog from getting into trouble..

    Hi theitsybits,

May I know where did you get the pink & yellow folding stools?

they were from NTUC Xtra..i got it during renovation as it was cheap and can fold with a easy-to-carry handle.. :thumbs up:

  15. Looking forward to see the pics of your bedframe n lorgan furnitures. Congrats for the final completion! It is indeed a long journey but the destination is a v rewarding one.

    hi theitsybits !

i really enjoy browsing the entries you have made for your sweet nest till date!

could you kindly share the contact for Mr K. with me? im expecting to take over the keys of my place in Feb. and need the place to be up by May for wedding date.

realised the process to house-building may really stretch further than expected. so would love to get started right in now.

    will really appreciate the share!

thanks! pm-ed..it's always better to start earlier!!

    Hi,

My wife and i simply love the louver door that you've gotten for your house. We did tried looking for the door by ourself and thru our contractors, but the only one our contractor could find will cost us $880 per door. if you dont mind, would it be ok that you could share on where did you get those doors?

    Thanks a million!

hey our contractor got it for us..it's aluminum and spray painted..i think it was around 400-500, more expensive than normal PD doors but definitely not 880! i'm not sure if it's possible to find them yourself online but contractors should have such contacts..

Hello can I have K's contact details too? Your house is very nicely done!:)

    pm-ed!

can't understand why anyone can say that its supposed to look like this. really its 睁眼说瞎话。The contractor kept saying color not even not his fault, he told me before the color will not be even. But how can it be till this standard?

And the front door is still cracking after the repairs done not so long ago. seems like taking the door back to factory to repair, paint it with a waterproof lacquer still do not work. I tell the contractor I can't accept this door, must change. He said change to another one will still be like this becos the rain splash and afternoon sun at my place quite bad. Anyone can suggest a more appropriate type of door for a place that will 日晒雨淋?I would think those with as little designs and joinings would be safter (though mine is already quite simple, just 1 sq, 1 rectangle). Scared I insist on changing, ultimately still crack.

Goodness the door is really quite ridiculous..solid nyatoh wood should not crack so easily!! Mine was painted with waterproof paint and used for toilets with moisture..we've no issues after 2 months..

  17. Hi can pm me Mr K contact? Thxs!

    hello, sry for the delay..pm-ed..

    .

We are still waiting for our furniture from Lorgan's which we ordered in September. :( Delivery was supposed to be in mid-October for console and coffee table with papa chair in December..but they wasn't able to make it and loaned us furniture for our photoshoot at home instead..and finally, the pieces will arrive soon..have been checking with them often, and they might send us the console first as it's already available..i'm really worried about scratching or damaging their on-loan furniture!

We've also finally bought our bed frame and will arrive next weekend. We actually managed to get what something similar to what I had in mind, although I'm praying the color chosen will match my grey room..

Hopefully the home can be almost complete soon..looking back at the renovation pictures, it has really been a long journey and huge transformation.. :yamseng:

  19. Hi theitsybit, may i know how the shoe cabinet door opens? is it magnetic like those press and open?

    thanks.

It's soft closing..the doors are quite big and heavy..if those press-open kind better get Blum ones as others spoil quite easily..
