  1. Tks guys for the info! Since the gypsum board is already built, I guess my only choices are to either do skirting or apply waterproof. But how to apply waterproofing leh? Any other methods other than the following? 1. Paint (those glossy paint for metal, water pipes and doors) 2. Use skirting as yoongf suggested 3. Use waterproof stickers (my father told me there's such a thing. anybody seen it b4?)
  2. Anybody using Gypsum boards? Are they waterproof? If the water due to mopping gets into contact with the feet area of the boards, will they rot? If so, how can we prevent them leh ? Tks!
  3. think those simple one not so ex la... saw the water saving one that was featured in the news lately in the new green punggol flats. cost abt $500, got backside washing function too.
  4. Just to share my experience. I'm currently doing my own reno. Currently so far so good, but can be tiring at times, cos everything "bao ka liao". My tiler, plumber, cabinets all either done by my father's friends or my relative's friends or my relatives. You gotta have your own design and know exactly wat you want. Here's some pros and cons. Pros 1. Save some money. I don't really think its true that ID firms may be cheaper. Yes they may be cheaper, but only when they use lousier stuff or take shortcuts. There are many things which people like us won't know, such as tiles foundation got lay properly, water proofing got do properly, etc. My father used to be a contractor, so he's able to tell immediately if the guy is taking shortcut. He's helping me coordinate some of the things now. Learnt some stuff from him when doing reno. hehe 2. More flexibility. Heard from my colleagues they are brought to the preferred shops by the ID firms when purchasing lights, WCs, etc. When you are your own PCK, you get watever you want! Cons 1. Tiring. Do it only if you can afford the time and energy! 2. Some things you may not know wat's the latest available technologies or ideas in renovation, so you gotta do alot alot of research on your own. But it can be fun also, cos you learn along the way, then you can go shops and see how some salesperson try to con pple. Eg for furniture, some shops tell me their furniture is solid wood, but those are only solid plywood, not real solid wood.
  5. Okok, tks GMC ! Will try that out. Anyway CityGas is sending someone down again tomorrow to take another look. Wah... if not for this forum, I think a lot of new home owners doing reno will be at a lost...
  6. Hi all, Me doing my reno now. Was thinking if I should use CityGas. However, the previous owner cut away all the CityGas pipes... ! Thinking of connecting them back. So called CityGas. Then they sent a technician down, and he say cannot run electricity alongside CityGas pipes, cos scared sparks will cause explosion. I'm thinking using cornice with downlights to cover the ugly pipes and trunking. Then he suggest put the electrical trunkings outside cornice, in dat case I do cornice for wat? So I call CityGas again a couple of days later. Den they say can run alongside, as long as the wires are covered by dunno wat flexible rubber tube. Today I call CityGas again. This time, they say cannot again! 1 moment say can't, next moment say can, den say cannot... arghh... den the guy took down my contacts, say wan to call me back. But haven call. Anybody running your electrical trunkings alongside the CityGas pipes, covered in cornice with downlights? Btw my flat 17 yrs old liao, so the CityGas outlet is outside the house, not in the kitchen. So must run all the way through the living room.
  7. Hi all, Help! Is it ok for my living room floor level to flush with that of the kitchen floor? Any fengshui rule saying that the kitchen floor must be lower than the living room floor in order to retain wealth? Will need reply asap, as my contractor is already working on the flooring.
  8. Hmm... you referring to this post? http://www.singaporebrides.com/forumboard/...html?1146881127 If you follow the user "ruru"'s discussions and comments, you'll find it a bit weird. Seems like he/she's trying to market Besglas. p/s I'm not trying to defame any1, but juz to remind everyone to be careful . Any1 can type anything on such forums, but readers should be able to discern the rights and wrongs themselves. Anyway I just called to check out pddoors. For a basic 3"x7", 1 door - $278 each (price inc installation. If no installation, $238) 2 doors - $268 each 3 doors - $258 each Any1 else tried pddoors before? How issit?
  9. I'm considering, but think may be ex. What's the expected damage? Went to FutureHomes at Sim Lim and their 7 piece starter kit is selling at abt $450. But the shop never put price tags on their items. Gotta ask the salesperson.
