  1. if the product got defect, shouldn't the worker not just fix it up? Ok, this doesn't look that bad on pic but its worse in reality. when I saw this and the house still in a mess after more than 70 days of reno, it just makes my blood boil. the new stuff that were fixed up are getting ugly and dirty from re-working and I'm not even sure if the gas stove and aircon would be spoilt as the contractor did not cover them until I realise and told him off. So when I stepped out of the house to lock up the door, and the neighbour came to complain why the reno so long, the contractor no license, etc. I went really mad. How to Keep Calm and Carry On?
  2. Hi Princess, Yes, I managed to change. Actually for my case, I feel v paiseh, after I went down to the shop to change the casing, then my contractor say the light not suitable for my low ceiling n high traffic area. So I went down to change to a non dangling light. After installation, I found it too bright, so I went down again to change to lower watts. The guy was really nice, tho I felt he seem a bit fierce the first time I see him, but he was really patient when I asked for exchanges. If really rust, not sure how too. Can sand and paint over if the surface coated with paint? Worst case scenerio is get electrician to change the lite. Hopefully the lights will last a long time till move house.
  3. He say will rectify, so should b fine. Yes, must ask him, cos I only double chk to find my mum ones no holes after asking him to rectify.
  4. Not quite sure too. It could b harder to paste the laminates for inside after u fix the cabinet together. But strangely, I got the same carpenter who did kitchen cabinet for my mum's house last yr. Hers no such holes. This time I found such holes in the wardrobe. Must c carefully. Hehee, I think its always gd to have that type attitude, taking each piece of work as if its for urself.
  5. Thanks Momiji. How did your tiles selection go? Managed to find the ones you like?
  6. He gave very detailed "justifications" on why its the tiles' nature and need to balance all four corners of the tiles, and compensate for other connecting tiles. I told him other people's house don't have this issue and I will not accept or even pay him the next instalment until he resolve it. So he changing around 10 tiles in the bedrooms and 2 - 3 in the living room (living room less jialat). He also redo the ugly skirtings and doing another acid wash to make the grout color more even. First time I hear acid wash will cause grout color to be uneven. That's rather silly, shouldn't acid wash be avoided if it causes grout issue? He was the one who say must acid wash. Unless I can show him someone house that uses very similar tiles as me, and is very even, else probably hard to argue. So far, I've only been to a fren who newly renovate and has very even flooring. But that's becos his house use glossy tiles and edges probably less 90degree cut. Then I went to another kind forumer's house, but her tiles were lay staggered and warping is expected in such laying method. Also trying to get a fren's tiler to come down to my house to take a look, probably after the contractor did the rectification and I still feel its not satisfactory. Sigh, I've run out of ideas... this guy is really ultimate
  7. Thanks Chezph. That's probably the only nice corner. Aiyo, guess what, the powerpoint is supposed to be 2 doubles but the contractor made another mistake and did 1 double only.
  8. Thanks Rhin. Actually I'm very undecisive and kept changing my mind for things, so some stuff may look a bit mismatched. but that one is my fault. Hopefully the end product doesn't look strange. I was also trying to go for a mid century post modern and eclectic look. But very hard to find the right materials so some stuff end up to be just things I thought should look nice.
  9. Very often they leave the holes like this, unless u tell them, then the squeeze some stuff to fill the holes. My contractor say will squeeze silicon inside. Then the last time when we bot a furniture fr a shop, they squeeze some brownish thing similar color to the laminate after we complain why like that. .

  11. More mistakes, from wrong door model, wrong grill gate, trackless sliding door became one with track. then when I thought what else could go wrong... wrong laminates put up for the kitchen cabinet After its changed to the right laminates. Doesn't it look much better? I think I've put in a ridiculous amount of time choosing laminates and drawing n redrawing the structure for the kitchen storage. Until I thot my eyesight deteriorated. But I think the effect is quite good. The altar that I also spent a lot of time thinking of the design n laminate. My bro kept telling me altar should buy from altar shop, rather than get someone who do kitchen cabinet to do, otherwise it will look like kitchen cabinet. But I didn't like what I see from the shops at Rochor, then the one I like at a shop specialising in elms wood is too ex. So no choice, got to crack my head to get the carpenter to do one. This is the easiest to decide. I like the laminates with the black handles. Actually, I think the carpentry work is the only part that I'm really satisfied with (except for the initial hiccup because of the blur main con).
  12. I wanted to get some items similar style at room of woods but really v broke too. Oic, seems like many things can't put facing doorway.
  13. Nice feature wall. So sweet. Btw, its bad fengshui to put pic facing corridors? If its not portrait ok? Very nice furnishing fr lorgan too, esp like the papa armchair.
  14. oh that's a great deal. spotlight a lot more ex, though they have slimmer designs for more restricted space.
  15. Hi Itsybits May I know where you get your curtain rails? I got very blur looking at those at spotlights and ikea. I like your very clean cut area round the windows. Mine have brackets encasing of electrical wires, trunking of aircons (contractor install wrong place), then the walls also have areas flushing in or popping out. Poses quite an issue to installation of curtain rails since I am not getting people to do curtains too. cheers Originalbread.
  16. nice! I bought another of their design, a bit like the one behind your pic, but the brown color. their tv console very nice but I can't afford.
  17. as long as you compensate him, should be ok? i think they don't mind painting but probably hate sanding. I was trying to diy some restoration and never got beyond sanding even one area.
  18. Hi Itsybits Sorry for being abrupt, may I ask a favour from you? Do you think I could take a look at your flooring? I was thinking even though your tiles are longer and thinner than mine, warping is not unacceptable. So all the more my bigger wood patterned tiles shouldn't be warping so badly. But I just want to be sure that its not really me being picky. He told me he did so many houses all like this no one ever complained and even wanted to show me his other houses. But I'm not really interested if his worksmanship is consistently bad. Whether his other customers are happy with his work don't really matter to me. I think my tiling is really terrible, I can feel the sharp edges while walking. But if you are uncomfortable with showing your house, then its ok. Maybe I can just ask if Mr K could take a look at my floor since if I want re-work, I don't really want my current sub-con to do the work. I think given their skills, it will only get worse. btw, is your message box full? I tried to pm you but couldn't send. thanks! originalbread
  19. Can pay extra to get ur contractor to do? Diy needs a lot of time n effort plua fear that skill no gd. (at least I got this fear when it comes to my own place). If spray paint directly can't work hoh?
  20. Anyway, I did follow the contractor advice on the tile laying so he has one less excuse on poor worksmanship.
  21. Thanks Jumbopanther. I managed to get to a friend's house just now. His skirting corners were like what you described, cut both tiles at 45degree. I will show the contractor a snapshot of my friend's skirting. I have another friend which was not cut at 45 degree, but hers' doesn't have a thick grey section. It looks exactly like the tiles' surface color, it could be due to the color of the tile cross section as some have rather similar color to the surface. But I can't accept my skirting. Will tell the contractor to change all corners else I won't pay.
  22. Thanks Princess. The greyish edge in the pic is actually the cross section of the tile, eg. when u cut a tile, u will get to see this grey portion which is the thickness of a tile. But not sure why these homogeneous tiles look so ugly when sliced across. Thot homogeneous tiles should look homogeneous . Indeed v headache, he insists that what he is doing is the standard practice n he did so many houses no one got issue. For the wood tone tiles, initially I want to pick the long strips type but he say may warp, so I listen to the advice n didn't pick that. Then when I pick these 30x60, he did say this will not have the same issue. Juz b4 laying the tiles, he called to say can't lay staggered else will have warping, so I also listen to the advice n lay them in one line. But then even so, the unevenness v bad.
