  1. hi,

I dont see any pressure relief valve installed for your storage tank, normally they will connect it to the 3rd pipe (indicated by the black sticker), so that in case that the tank pressure monitoring fails, the additional water can be expelled through the pressure relief valve.

You might want to get the installer to check again, safety always come first.

We did not strike off some IDs which were more expensive as we can give up some items to do as primarily we believe sometimes quality > quantity.

I would not be posting any pictures of the house or floor plan as yet due to the fact that we have not select an ID. ( Some IDs do hang out in this website.)

P.S. there were 3 other IDs that I did not mentioned as they were way above and beyond the budget I gave them.

    a) Retz and Relaz

    b) Cissern

    C) Chew Interior

I can understand RandR as they give lifetime the other 2 not so sure why so god **** ex.

Hi, good research! I went thru the same process u did, thou my appointed ID was not in your list. My reno has completed about 3 weeks ago, and Im really happy. Everything is about 95% of what I wanted, with the price that I was comfortable with.

I always believed that when we work with the arts (ID is an art, especially when u want "ideas"), the designer is just as important as the credentials of his company. How is the designer like? Does he talk flashy, or come out with ideas that spell $$$? Does he hardsell, or will he change his ideas based on your requirement? If your ID drives a expensive car, wear luxury watches decked in branded clothes from top to bottom, I believe he will not give u ideas that are value for money. Instead, he will be recommending you best of the best stuff at a ultra premium price, whether the idea fits your design or not.

If you are on a budget (I cannot understand how 31k to 120k just for renovation is considered budget, but Im assuming your home should be a terrace or semi-D, FYI I spent 18k on reno, 2k for electrical works, about 10k for fittings, home electricals, beds, lightings and consumables such as cooking spices and daily necessities to fill the fridge up for my 4-room bto), do make sure that your ID is someone who can see the importance of money and a budget. The meeting place to hold a meeting, the type of food he orders, the drinks he orders, conversations that he hold over a phone call, accessories for himself, accessories he uses for his car: all these little things will tell u alot about that person. You should be looking for a person who is honest, careful with money, thinks with logic and arts - not just ideas without the care for cost, and most importantly, humble and listens well.

The right ID for a friend might not be a right ID for you. Hope you choose your ID wisely and enjoy your reno!

  3. Erm, workmanship definitely not the best, but not shabby either. For me, whatever can be seen, must be good. Whatever cannot be seen or is hidden, does not have to be that good. I would grade their work as 7/10.

Some things which wasnt very good, they will rectify. But sometimes after rectify still not so good, so I will repair them myself as long as they give me the raw materials. They are really busy now so I rather I fix them then to wait for them to fix it.

I dont have a digital copy, but basically i paid 18k for reno works without elec works.

big ticket items include FH 5FT shoerack, living room 7FT TV console w/ top and bottom storage, kitchen masonry works, kitchen cabinets 22FT, granite top, kitchen corner storage system, False ceiling for Living room and walking corridor, L-box w/cove lighting at tv console area, MBR TV console, MBR 7FT 2dr wardrobe, 2 x suspended bedside table w/drawer, MBR toilet vanity counter w/ SS top, top and bottom storage, full wall mirror, glass shower screen and other standard items such as painting, plumbing works etc etc.

    Good luck!

  4. Hi Lancified,

Like to find out how much did you pay for the shipping cost for your kitchen sink faucet?

You stated you pay $70 for it but the lightinthebox website stated USD70 just for the faucet.

    THanks

Hi, I paid SGD$70+ after shipping but I bought it around november 2011 when there was a 30% off.

Even at US$70, it is still very cheap when u compare to the prices in SG.

  5. U DIY the exhaust fan also??? How u did tat?

The frame was made to order by my bi-fold door supplier, I mounted the fan that I bought on the frame, sealed the edges with silicon and connected the fan to my LED lights.

So after a shower or toilet cleaning, I would leave the LED lights on for 5 mins so that the fan can dry everything :)

So much easier than mopping and mopping.

  6. Lancified: How to check if the pressure is low or high? Is it ok to buy a rain shower meant for low pressure but install it in a house with high water pressure?

Hi, hard to check, But usually it will state that it is suitable for low pressure or high rise building.

U can use a low pressure suitable shower for a high pressure place, just don't turn the tap to the Max Else it might be too painful.

  7. The day i've been waiting for so long...Day 17 plumbing progress...

@HaiDeChen : Went to visit ard 6.30pm and they're still working at the MBR i guess. Didnt go in as its quite busy in the rooms. 1 was unboxing the toilet bowls and the other guy was doing something on the wall while MBR was filled with tools and accessories.

    IMG_2855.jpg

Did you buy the type for low pressure? Many people also bought rain shower without making sure it could work with low pressure. In the end became rain drizzle...

  8. May I ask...

    1. The box-up of the pipes is given by HDB?

Cos I remember past BTOs have the pipes exposed, but lately see many similar box in this forum.

    2. The power socket (which you convert into gang of 2) also provided in the box? or You extend from elsewhere?

    3. The LED strips comes with the plug, so just plug-and-lite right?

    Thanks in advance!

    1. Ya box up provided by HDB.

    2. There is a electrical point inside the box up, just need to tap from there and extend out. The 2 gang is not supplied. Else, you can tap to your toilet light power too.

    3. LED strips do not come with any power. You need to purchase it separately depending on your needs, either adapter or direct power supply. Most LED suppliers will have stocks for those too.

  9. Mine dun have cover for the kitchen switch. Only the washer switch comes with it.

But, ya, to save cost, need to play around the layout so to minimise the need to do additional/relocation of switches... 

oh! then u can buy the plastic cover separately and install it. its universal so all 2 gang switches will fit. think it only cost a few dollars.

  10. Purplestar, thanks for the pointer.. Ya, i think it's a bit too low but maybe after putting up the top cabinet it might not look too low. Still prefer to have it relocate, though.

I think this height is the same for all BTOs. for myself, i only connect the hood to the switch and since there's a plastic cover it's alright for me. I hide the wires by using some spare trunking which is about the same colour as my tiles. It is too costly to relocate since it will require replacement of many tiles.

  11. Hi lancified, sorry to bother you again. When you have time, do you think you can help measure the dimensions of your countertop (the two lines indicated below)?

My kitchen also has a similar L shape, but mine is a mirror image of yours. Am thinking whether to buy the same sink or the bigger 600mm version. Contractor did mentioned to me that that counter space can accomodate sink up to 700mm, but I would prefer to have more space around the sink to put plates etc.

Based on your usage so far, do you think your sink is big enough, especially when washing big pots?

    Thanks so much!

    lancified_line.jpg

    Hi bleucheeze,

it's around 105cm and 56cm. Of course if I could, I would have gotten a bigger sink. But counter space is important for me too. That why I made sure my tap can be pull out, it makes washing big items alot easier, even woks.

  12. Hi lancified,

Thank you so much for sharing your Lighting DIY. Looking forward to see your pictures.

    Excited,

    Yeocando

    20121211222102.jpg

I converted the power point to a 2 gang socket, one to power up the LED, the other is pending my exhaust fan installation next week, so many things to DIY, so little time :(

    20121211221726.jpg

Mounted the LED strip using 3m double sided tape, and further supported by industrial clear tape across it.

After 1hour of sweat and hard work, tadah!

    20121211233232.jpg

    Hope this can help you!

  13. When did you buy from sink from them? Got 20% discount at that time? If the 20% discount only apply to current year end sale, then I cannot buy now... I wanna wait till late Feb/early March then buy cos getting keys only then.

Hi, the discount runs until year end.

You can buy the sink first ma, sink don't expire. But u will need to decide what size sink you will need. Else even without that 20% discount, it's still cheaper than buying it locally or from US.

  14. Thanks lancified for your feedback! Am thinking of buying tap together with the sink, cos I'm not confident of choosing tap of a right dimension etc via online. Does Aldeco sell good range of kitchen taps?

Yup the range is good! Many designs to choose from. We bought our bathroom taps from there and we were so amazed. My colleague tagged on me to buy a kitchen tap and he was shocked that the quality is so good, now he wants me to buy another one when i go malaysia again lol.

  15. Hey lancified, just to check, since there's a coating at the bottom of your sink, am I right to say there isn't any loud "clang clang" sound of water when washing things? Kindly advise. Thanks in advance! :)

Yup, no clang clang sound. the sound it produces is more solid, like deep bass.

  16. 20121201194241.jpg

bro can share which led model u used? 5050 or 3528? 600 led or 300 led? and which driver you bought also? Thanks in advance

    Hi bro,

I used 300led 3528 warm white powered by a 2A adapter. If you want brighter u can try 5050, 600led if you are using it for direct lighting.

  17. I assume u also got the 23" one. I just post in my blog so I just copy n paste here fyi.

Kraus KHU101-23 23-Inch Undermount Single Bowl 16 gauge Kitchen Sink, Stainless Steel

    Sink Subtotal : $329.95

    Shipping & Handling: $101.14

    -----

    Total before tax: $431.09

    Sales Tax : $0.00

    Import Fees Deposit $30.18 (GST)

    -----

    Total for This Shipment: USD$461.27

Sorry, I hope you have not bought this sink yet. I bought a exact model, but smaller size 18" one. The material and design is exactly the same but without the Kraus branding and wire mesh accessory. I am currently using it, even the bottom part is the same, reinforced with the dark gray thing. According to the website, the 23" model is RM750 - 20% (year end sale, 20% off everything) = RM600 = SGD$241. Just need to make a trip to JB to handcarry out. customs allow up to SGD$150 tax free per pax in car. So if your car has 4 pax, u can go up to SGD$600 / RM1500 for tax free.

  18. 1. Sink on one side, fridge and hob with hood on the other.

    2. Fridge, hob/hood and sink in 1 line

    3. Hob/hood and sink in 1 line, fridge at the opposite.

    4. Hob/hood at the shorter L-shaped cabinet, sink at the longer L. Fridge at the opposite.

    My fridge dimension is 1777(h)x635(w)x676(d)

    My sink is about 58.4cm

I intend to get 3 burner hob.

Different id i met gave different ideas. Myself is clueless about which is the best coz one of the id threw out my idea to put fridge at the right hand side of the kitchen entrance.

I actually like that position coz people from living n dining wont be able to sneak peak my fridge when the doors are open... :P

The real headache comes to the positioning of the hob.. I need to have sufficient countertop space. If i were to choose no.2, my food preperation place will be cramp( eventhough my drawings are not to scale). The id who suggested that suggested me to do a countertop at the 'designated' fridge area where i can do my food preperations there. His rationale; distance isnt so far from sink, hob n fridge.

No 4. is something that i didnt think of and was suggested by one of the id. I found it kinda acceptable till i voiced out this layout to other id( just to get opinions...) and he said, work space might be too tight and would be too jut out. Haiz... :(

Was thinking of putting hob and sink end to end ( not in picture) but hubby said my elbows might hit the side walls while cooking...

Am i making things so difficult? Why cant i be decisive? Havent even confirm with an id... Really scared of making the wrong choice....

I cook around 4 days in a week, 4 is the way to go - but build a countertop beside the fridge too.

  19. Bravo! You are really resourceful in getting items at good rates without compromising on quality for your home! So you get all the kitchen sink/tap @ 1/3 price from online? Is the shipping exp? What is the address for EJ@AMK? How do you order for your korean blind? Is it similar to getting items from TaoBao?

Kitchen sink from Aldeco Living in malaysia, Tap from online. free shipping. EJ Address I'll PM u. Blinds from korea, u need to measure the length and height, then order directly. It is more simple than taobao, since you do not need to go through an agent.
