  1. Oh i cross that traffice light every morning to the bus stop opposite. And yes, i am always very careful with it because sometime the driver maybe blocked by buses or just distracted by phone ringing etc, that they may miss the light since its a nice big straight road. Of course this is no excuse, but just have to be careful. I myself did an e-stop many years ago due to the same situation. Forcing the pedestrain to just jump back. He look shocked/speeachless and i have to appologise profusely.
  2. Hello all, Wanted to ask this question long time ago but finally have time to o it: Anyone find that the original toilet bowl that HDB provided is very inefficient? I mean, 'ehem', after you do your 'big' business, you got to at least flush twice to get back the clear clean water in the bowl? Its the same for both my master toilet and common toilet. Tried to change the water level in the tank to the min or max but still the same. You can see that when you flush, there are alot of backwash and the water in the bowl is never fully emptied. Tested with some coloured liquid to see the effect, you will need to flush three times to get back the clear water in the bowl. Seems like this is a cheap china made toilet bowl and the problem is with the contour itself. I am sure everyone here have used this toilet bowl, any comments on this?
  3. I wanted to install a tinted black glass mirror too during the reno, but in the end my id just say that the glass cannot be a square glass as the HDB's wall is tilted with reference to the edge, i will need a customised glass to fit in.... cost extra $$$.. so i just say forget it.. i will diy. cost of tinted black mirror of area ~1.8 x 0.74 x 2.0 x 0.8 m = 0$ ( i am related to the glass industry. but normal practice is $9/sq feet) cost of transporting the mirror myself (looking like a contractor in the lift) = 0$ cost of MaxBond to fix up the mirror = $8.50 cost of seeing the whole mirror fix up in the living room and look nice when the id say its expensive or impossible but you DIY = priceless! the switch in each toilet is meant for each individual toilet i.e. you cannot control the central heater in the kitchen with the switch in your MBR. unless your electrician wants to rewire for you. i am using the MBR heater switch in the MBR for an extra socket in the MBR toilet for hair dryer and toothbrush and such... btw, its illegal (according to hdb) to have a electrical socket beside the toilet basin, because they are afraid that you might try to mix water and electricity..( oh when will these hdb people grow up?)
  4. Yes i found it noisy too and have installed 'damper' on all the door. You just need to buy those 'circular looking sponge sticker' that is supposed to be for sticking to the bottom of chairs and tables's leg to prevent scraching the floor. Then just stick a few of these small sponge to the door frame, so that it is between the door and the frame when you close the door.
  5. before housewarming just say that you have window grilles in the house...... .. .. . err... but its in the bomb shelter.... .. .
  6. Oh I am finally back... I also took out the bottom grilles of the living room.. at first looks scary but it actullay looks much nicer and more 'open' feeling. Not to mention that its much much easier to clean that part of the window. I have asked my contractor before, and they all mentioned that its not allowed to remove the grill. So after they hand over, i just took it out myself, actually very easy. All you need is a pen knife and a screw driver. 1. Remove the plug that blocks the hole to the screws. 2. Slice away the silicon glue at the angle bars that is connected at the edge 3. Unscrew all the screws (i forgot i think its 6 screws per panel) 4. Remove gently without scratching the sides and alot of aluminium dust will fall out so watch out 5. wahla.. . nice clear view! Just keep the grill in your bomb shelter, and when you need to sell your flat later or need to install grill for all your windows, then just put it back... disclaimer: pls dun hold me liable for any damages or fine for illegally removing it... actually i also duno if its really not allowed to remove it or not...
  7. beer! no prob! just put time put place (but i have to be in sg 1st, sms you when i am back).. will ask desmond cheong to join in since he sms me for a beer when i was not in town. then we can get near our own place... (sounds better then potluck to me) as for wireless@SG, beoz of my plan with singtel, they included it in the plan for me, free. but whether its starhub or singtel, even if they give it free now, by 2008, they can start charging (promised by IDA).. anyway i use it only once in a very blue moon..
  8. probabily the reason that the rope broke is that the playground is not designed for adults? but kids? well people nowadays are very dependent on internet (including myself).. i remember paying US$5 per min in india.. whats that compared to (lets dun mention root beer), how about beer Chang? wireless@SG is just another way to get you hooked with wireless then later charge you.... and i hope to visit you soon too.. miss my home and wifey already (or should i say miss my wifey and home already)
  9. yes i can watch cable channel since i moved in a month ago and they activate for me a few days after i moved in. i think they are trying to group all activation together to save cost in this case... my internet is from singnet, which got activated a little later then SCV.. well if anyone wants to 'borrow' my wireless, i will only charge a nominal 1 can of beer per minute then... why are there so many queue jumper in sengsiong? is it because of alot of foreigner in this area? the one that i have seen is one indian women (buying just a cucumber) so i let her go since only one piece... then came the weighing station where this chinese guy just push his 'i duno what vege' to the staff and the staff happily weigh for him even though we have a queue right on the other side... i suppose this belong to the 'untrained staff problem'...
  10. actually i dont care abt the mess they make.. but i more worried about the smell they make.. i can smell sengsong when i wake pass... not to mention the people who like to jump queue... just have have the three things to bear... stinko smell, queue jumper and queue jumper? this is not china right? in anycase, shengsiong, is still a convienient place for us... and IT IS LISTED ( i wont place my bet in in yet)...
  11. Totally agreed with kris, i really hope that me and my wifey can make more friends around the neighbourhood not just in the forum but in coffeeshop aka face to face chat... 'yuan qing bu ru qing ling'.. but how to go abt doing that is still a puzzle to me.. well when we have our own little mr/ms, life will be different again.. who knows when we will be competting each other then be friend.. !! kris, have you called 1633? do they need you to pay activation fee if you are not subscribing to them? Anyway i have SCV with them in my old house, so they just activate me for free, free to air channel from other socket point without the set top box is very clear. but the radio reception (from FM socket) is very poor (don't know if there is any different abt radio and TV)... PS: we pay radio/TV license you know? we dont pay this to receive crappy video/sound.... btw, me not in town !!
  12. Congrats Zirhk, djulyn and Chek, that you people finally move in liao.. hope you settle down with your new house after all the unpacking soon... Even though i am not a fan of Sengsiong, but it seems like with the opening of sengsiong, this area really looks alot more lively. As with other residence's forums, it seems like once everyone starts to move in and settle down, the forum will get quieter and quieter.. hope this will not happen to this forum too.. so its up to everyone to keep this going.... You have to call SCV to activate your SCV points. They may require you to fax them the HDB sales agreement so that they can waive off the activation charge.
  13. oh although it is the only washer/dryer that toshba import to singapore. But in Japan they are already doing very well in their washer/dryer (according to my wife) so it should not be a problem with reliability. Just if next time spoil maybe difficult to get spares... Anyway we just love it.. and i think its the best investment for me so far (no more hanging cloths!)... cheers!
  14. i forgot what is the name, got to ask my id again next time when i see him. My neighbour is one of the affected want, paisey to ask them... pm you when i can find out the name.. currently not in town..
  15. Oh yes i am using this model. So far me and my wife just love the convenience. Just press start and go for shopping.. in three hours you get new cloths to wear again, no need to hang cloths or switch transfer between washer and dryer.. and its very quiet, you dun even know you are washing when in the living room.. We were advised by salesman not to buy this as its the first dryer/washer that toshiba is importing to singapore, so if spoilt, it will be difficult to get spare parts and durability is questionable. But we still go ahead and get it. As we have just been using it for only 2 months, so still duno how durable is it.
  16. welcome to this neighbourhood.. how come you collected your keys so late? are you from the Aug07 BE? if yes, you must have a reall good q-no..? You can look around the blocks for signs of show room and such, and check if you like the IDs quality. But please try to avoid those 'old ah beng' type of contractors.. Heard that one of the ID (i forgot the name, maybe 'Ong .. .. contractor') has run away with some 4 families' deposit. They have made police reports, and have to get other contractor to carry on the reno jobs...
  17. Ikea price is cheap! with installation it is not... but for this case, you should either pay for ikea to install for you as they charge by %tage of the purchased item, plus the no. of holes. sorry this may be a case of 'ma hou pao' which more then 30 holes are already driven...
  18. Like Surge say Jackel is a goood brand and i used to use it too before no regrets. Now mine is AMC as a present from my mum. comes in a metal suitcase (actually i like the suitcase more then the knife .. ).. now i just need a knife holder.. no more place to put liao.. the magnetic holder from Ikea is a good idea, but i just dont like it, dont like hanging knife..
  19. I like the WMF wooden knife holder but very ex. @ 50++ and Ikea is selling it dirt cheap with knife included but quality not as good lar.. i already got lotsa good quality knifesss, just need to get some good knife holder. wonder where to get them beside WMF ones...
  20. sure, sure! i believe you got lotsa DIY stuff that i may need... i do have some thou.. when you need them.. good neighbours unite!!
  21. Actually living here in the new place is kindof a mixed feeling, but of course the good things is more then the bad.. Good stuff; 1. I am now only 5 bus stop from my workplace (i used to live in pasir ris!) no i can wake up at 8am! 2. Its my own house, i mean flat... 3. Me and my wife got more privacy.. you know what i mean... 4. This place is a real gem.. convenient to go anywhere... 5. just lov'in it... Bad stuff; 1. I dont know the neighbourhood too well.. no 24hr convenient shop.. used to have that that i can buy things at 3am in the morning... 2. Gota get used to new neighbours... good/bad?? 3. got to pay new bills (property tax, electrical/gas/wate/telco.. you name it...) 4. too much reno at the moment... automatic alarm clock.... some of them even work until 11pm on sat night!! heard that sengsiong is open, is it correct? now that i am out of town, kinda miss my flat already.. lotsa DIY that i want to do myself... hope to be back sooon.....
  22. In my previous HDB flat that i stayed, i have many neighbours that have kids that age too. And sometime you do hear them scolding/canning the kids too, but this one is rather extreme. Both the parents just keep scolding the kids (i thought normally one will scold and the other will try to protect but not this case). And the canning sound felt them painful... I have seen them during the firework celebration at the corridor and just say hi but did not talk much as they seems to understand only cantonese. They seems like a loving family with the parents holding to the kids to look at the fireworks... I will try to record down the canning episode next time when it happens again and see what you guys make out of it... hope its not a case of domestic violence...
  23. hiya.. now i got a new problem and duno what to do, hope some of you can advise. My neighbour has already shifted in, they look like around 40++ and they have two kids age about 7-10 yrs old. Yesterday night, both the parents started scolding (in cantonese which i cannot understand) and canning one of the kid while the kid is screaming and crying for help, I can hear it from every corner of the house even with the window closed.. It lasted around 15mins and so far it has happened twice in a week. The sound is very scarry and painful... Me and my wife just cannot bear the sound and have to play some loud relaxing music... also to let them know that we are bothered. What would you do...... .. .. .
  24. Sorry guys, cannot find time yesterday to visit your place.. was doing further drilling and fixing things here and there.. will try again next weekend if i am around... My contractor did not connect the drain from my bathtub to the drain hole even though they confirm to me they did connect it up, so end up when the drain hole is blocked with hairs, all the water overflow to the toilet floor. I have to source for a dia.48mm screwed female connector. Cannot find in any DIY shop.. will have to look around in some more 'pro' hardware shop today.
  25. will call you tomorrow zirhk, lotsa home improvement to make... what time is convenient for you?
