    Thanks

  3. Anyone know where I can find lamp holders used in table lamps? Mine is getting flimsy and worry might cause a short.

DIY does not seem to stock them and lighting shops don't seem to stock parts.

Tried Sim Lim Tower also don't see any.

Don't tell me once it breaks down then the table lamp can throw away?

    TIA

  4. Hi all

I wonder if the installation of wooden windows (old fashion sash windows) is the expertise of a carpenter?

I have 2 sash windows to install. I think it is somewhat similar to installing doors as it needs a wooden frame around the hole in my wall. Then I guess instead of hinges, the windows is anchored to the frame by screws.

If anyone here is a carpenter and is keen to do this job please let me know.

I do not hang out here often so please email me at chech01@yahoo.com to get to me quickly.

If you want to know more about sash windows please check out youtube. I have the windows already and just need someone to supply the custom frame and install.

    Thanks

  5. That is precisely why I am searching for 1 for my kitchen too!

Saw some sash window in taobao.. Price wise seem to be cheaper than what you paid. But I am sure the quality of yours will be much better. Looking forward to see photos of it soon.. :dribble:

I would but my attempt to post pics failed. LOL

Anyway, discovered a small dent on the wood and reported to VPOST. Hope insurance covers it. If not then I have to get the carpenter to do some filler repair.

uPVC types from China is really cheap. That was my first consideration as companies from UK ignored my enquiries. Later I found this Polish company that does customised ones. And since I need one that is of a certain dimension, they were my final choice.

Later if I can try an upload and it works I will post some.

    cheers

  6. Wow! The price seem steep! And so much troubles for the windows!

I'm sure you must be delighted to receive the windows! Look forward to seeing the pictures of the windows installed! Bet they will look good! :D

Yes it does cost a fair bit. I am treating it like a feature wall except it does more than cosmetics. It allow air flow from windows in the entrance foyer through the kitchen. The original design is just a wall and it gets very hot when you are in the kitchen.

Beside this I experimented with a number of fancy frills. I have added bay window seatings in 2 of the bedroom. Added dishwaher and also had an insinkerator installed. not as expensive as I thought it would be.

hopefully I am allowed to share some of the pics of the finished reno.

    Cheers

  7. Hi Spoilbrat,

I have been searching for such window for months for my kitchen partition wall too! Do you mind sharing with me the cost and the supplier please?

    TIA.

    Hi

Sorry I did not log in often here.

Finally the windows are in Singapore (somewhere at VPOST in Paya Lebar). I took a leap of faith and ordered from a company in Poland. S much cheaper and friendlier than those in the UK.

Anyway, it was roughly 1100 pounds inclusive of their 20+% VAT. And that includes the fee of trucking it down to Surrey in England to VPOST centre. Then it is another S$800+ to ship it in. Now this is for 2 Windows customised to my desired size.

The company is eurostyl and I will see if I can post some pics of the Windows mounted in my kitchen once it is done by the carpenter.

    Cheers

  8. Hi

I have a very nice Scanteak dining set that has been with us for years. Still in excellent condition but the seat covers are worn and also the board where you sit on needs to be replaced. As for the table, the hinges where you can make the 6 seater into a 4 seater is rusted.

Anyone can recommend someone reliable to refurbish the set for me? The scope of work is roughly:

    - Replace all 6 seats board and covering.

    - Varnish (matt type) all 6 chairs

    - Replace the rusted hinges on table

    - Varnish table

    Thanks

  9. Some will call you and you just tell them that you have signed up with an ID or contractor. Some never call so you don't ever have to worry about those.

But it is common for them to win 1 in every x number of quotes. So, failure is an option for them. Don't worry about having to say NO.

    cheers

  10. Hi

It seems I am also facing this with my resale unit. It is undergoing reno now. Contractor pointed out the leak on my common toilet ceiling. quite sizeable drops of water comes down each time it leaks.

HDB was informed. They came and took a look. Went up to tell the upstairs neighbour. Looks like they are not willing to repair (classic answer given was "My toilet did not leak").

I wonder if HDB has the authority to force them to repair? I am just curious why they are so against repairing it as:

    - the other guy has to cough out 50%. so it is not like he has nothing much to do and want to throw money away.

    - it might be your toilet ceiling the next time and people could do the same back to you.

Anyone knows whether HDB can insist they repair it with a contractor recommended by HDB?

Now it appears that my reno will drag longer than expected.

    Sigh....

  11. Saw some nice shower screens used in Interior Affairs. It is simple and very neat. And, I think they use some Perspex instead of glass.

Been to Austscreen but the quality is common and not as clean cut as that used in Interior Affairs show bathrooms.

Anyone has suggestions on alternatives that can end up looking like those used in Interior Affairs?

    thanks

  12. Newbie on digital lock here.

Can I ask what kind of batteries are used? Is it those AA size ones? I always thought it taps the mains supply and then I always wondered how they connect the wires to it.

Anyone has experience using those locks from the shop in IMM that says they can make the door and the padlock use the same key. And that the key cannot be hacked or made elsewhere. Tempted to get that but the salesman quite impatient type and pushy.

    Cheers

  13. True. Prices can vary greatly by brand.

For WC, my biggest challenge is to find one that is not too big (small HDB toilet space), is one piece design and works well.

I have to admit I could not find such a WC.

So now bought some two-piece but cheaper range (Johnson Suisse) but at least it can fit the space limitation. whether it will flush well will have to wait to see.

My original intention was for TOTO with tornado effect but the size of the monster toilet is HUGE.

    Cheers

  14. Hi

what do you think is the likely cost for plumbing works for:

    - 5I HDB

    - 1 inch stainless steel piping

    - 2 bathrooms - shower, basin/tap, toilet WC and the small jet spray

    - 1 kitchen basin/tap

    - central hot water to feed bathrooms and kitchen

    - use washing machine and dryer

I provide for all taps, WC, showers, hot water heater.

I do not need exact. Just want to see what I should set aside for this.

    Thanks for sharing

  15. Hi

Need help to find suppliers for toilet. Currently the toilet is too big. The clearance between the toilet the door is almost touching.

I think ideally the toilet I need should be 650 mm or smaller, measured from the tip to the back of the cistern.

Any know of any particular brand or model that will have that kind of size?

    Specs:

    - 650 mm or shorter

    - single piece design is great but I think not much chance of that

    - white in colour

    - uses gerberit system if possible

    - the toilet seat uses metal connectors to hook on to the bowl. Plastic is usually too flimsy

I am flexible with price as I have scouted toto to duravit and still could not find one.

    Thanks

    c

Wah quite steep. Is it because it is harder to do all these on a landed compared to HDB or apartments?

  19. Based on HDB ruling, if your unit is the 1st unit to the lift lobby or the staircase, you will need to install fire-rated door. Cannot siam one or else next time you will have problem selling your flat.

Do you know if they have an approved list of doors to choose? I saw the website that was given as a link in this thread, some nice doors. They have 1/2 hour, 1 hour and 2 hours. So, we "kiasu" go get 2 hours or just 1/2 is enough?

    Thanks.

  20. Not practical to have a bath tub. My resale flat comes with a Jacuzzi bath tub (white in colour and size of a normal bath tub). I was told the owner uses it only twice. So, it is like new.

anyone want to pay for the removal and have the tub for free? I am not sure if it can be removed without damage though as the owner build a retaining wall for it.

    Cheers

  21. Hi all

I am new here. Just registered as I am embarking on my big renovation for my resale flat. I am thinking of placing a couple of wooden sash windows on my kitchen walls so that air can flow from home entrance through the kitchen.

BTW, sash windows are those wooden vertical sliding windows that you find in English homes. I think in the US some country styled homes also uses them.

    It looks something like this

    Sash Windows

Anyone with info on where I can find them would be appreciated.

    TIA
