  3. Hey Easter,

Are you serious on the "fengshui masters always say that try not to put shoes at a level above your height"? :jawdrop:

I didn't know about that and I have already instructed my ID to proceed with a full height shoe cabinet. The carpenter is working on it now.

Gosh... I think my house design & layout violate a lot of fengshui principles, let's hope that everything will be smooth for my family and I after we move to Punggol.

Don't worry Ben, I believe you didn't consult any FSM rite? So don't need to bother with all this restrictions make yourself headache only.

If you engage one, you must follow, if not spend money for what.

We didn't consult FSM, if every single thing need to follow, our dream home may not be one anymore :P

Full height shoe cabinet upper area can also add as storage area mah not only necessary for shoes, it's ok one, fully utilize the space cheers

  4. hoho,

another neighbour! Hi I'm from Rivervale Arc as well, start your renovating already?

    180c neighbour here.

Hi drunkenchivas, yes blk 180C too :)

If everything is according to plan, should be starting next week :notti:

    HI,

I have also been considering the pros and cons of stainless steel and tampered glass. I made my decisions based on the following. If any of it helps you, that is great....;P

After much thinking and research about durability, safety, usage, aesthetics etc.. these are my findings...

    1) Rinnai Lifetime Warranty - My understanding of this Rinnai lifetime warranty is that they warranty it for lifetime , but they will only change the glass once . After that you have to pay 300 to change it. I asked about the inner flame ceran glass model RB 2CG & 3CG.

    2) Stainless Steel - The stainless steel over a period of time has a high tendency to rust, but that does not mean it will rust. A lot of it depends on how well you take care of it. Do you clean after every cooking session thoroughly and then clean again with dry clothe . I know of people whose stainless steel rush within 3 years and others never rust for at least 6 years.... A lot depends on your maintenance.

    Rinnai-hob---rust.jpg

    3) Scratches - Scratches can occur on both Stainless Steel as well as glass . It how well you take care of it.

    4) Tampered Glass - Compared to Stainless Steel, Glass will not rust :P , however it will crack if not taken care properly or use improperly. So you gotta evaluate which is more important to you. Crack or rust? All of it depends again on how you use it.

    516371.jpg

Also there is two types of glass in Rinnai Selection, Tampered glass and Ceran Glass. There are lots of details on the differences, but in essence ceran glass is more tougher than just tampered glass. But the cost is also higher. So you got to evaluate based on your usage , maintenance schedule , budget ...which is better for you.

hope this brief intro of what little I know helps you.

I see, thanks for sharing Jaykr :) Ya whatever backing you are using, basic maintainence is still necessary so just go with whatever you want. :thumbs up:

  5. Ya like what drunkenchivas said, the place is not as big as we see from floor plan. But because you are putting your dining table there, I suppose you only left the divider area to do your shoe cabinet, can try reducing the divider thickness.

I think because fengshui masters always say that try not to put shoes at a level above your height which is why some people are doing maybe half height shoe cabinets nowadays, I also doing a suspended 4 ft shoe cabinet but mine is at the side beside the door as I did not do any divider.

anyway, honeykitty I can share with you the ready inside of the house, so that you can gauge for yourself the space for your planning since we have the same floor plan :)

    (pardon the messy pamphlets, haha)

  6. Hey Easter,

I was once also a noob in online purchases, especially from Taobao, so don't worry about it.

I went to create an account with Peeka and made all my Taobao purchases via Peeka. It's quite easy breezy. Perhaps you can give it a try. :thumbs up:

wow, certainly can learn a lot here from, will go create a account and try, thanks :)

Thanks, keeping my fingers cross... the big picture will only surface next week after the partitions are up

Although Hoe Kee is not the cheapest place but I was impressed with the sales guy so decided to get most of the sanitary items from them.

Do take note about the gap between the wall and the WC hole, you will need to check with the plumber in order to get the correct WC; there are 2 types - 6" & 10" gap.

The Blanco sink & tap is having promo now... though there are cheaper granite sinks in Jalan Besar, I decided to pay more for the Blanco sink & tap as I love the alu metallic colour (aka grey)

As mentioned by Beng, just sign up for a Peeka account and the rest are quite easy.

You have to copy and paste the TB links into the Peeka website and update the shipping charges, qty, colour, size & etc.

After you have confirm all your orders, Peeka will inform you the amount to pay for deposit. Payment is via bank transfers.

Then just have to wait for the goods to arrive in their China office and shipped out to SG.

After they inform you that your items have been shipped out, you have to make the balance payment.

Then just have to wait for the goods to arrive :yeah:

Hope the simple explanation enlighten you.

I see, ok, ya I think the gap between the wall and the WC hole is important too, noted thanks for the explanation cheers, you guys make it more simply to understand haha :good:

  7. Hey Easter,

Welcome to RT and welcome you to the northeast side of Singapore. Guess you can say we're neighbours since Punggol & Sengkang are side-by-side. Hahaha! :jammin:

Glad to see that you have started a T-blog too!

    Good luck on your reno!

    Cheeeeeeers! :good::good::good:

Thanks ben , haha yeah sengkang and punggol is so close to each other, can see from your T-blog that your reno is coming to an end soon, hope to see the finished product of your house soon :)

Tecno brand is cheaper than Rinnai....most probably to get stainless steel top to match the hood and stainless steel sheet backing at the cooking area...matching..hahaha

Ya Tecno is cheaper, I think ultimately also depend on how heavy do you use the kitchen. If it is heavy duty cooking type, better to invest in a durable type like stainless type.

Wooo... allow me to share my personal experience with the stainless steel hob & backing.

In reality, it's not easy to maintain. After oil splatter on the backing, you need more effort & efficient cleaners to clean it and you will need to clean it every time after there are stains. The same happens to the hob.

Heard from sales that the inner flame type is practical if Hob is near windows so that the flame won't flicker or go off so easily.

If the flame flickers, the food will take a longer time to cook

I'm going for glass surface so hopefully I don't have to work so hard to maintain the cleaniness.

Thanks for sharing dreamzgal, we haven't select any backsplash for our kitchen just plain tiles, hope it is not a nightmare to clean up.

Also I think it's better to get a hob with a safety valve that cut off gas supply if the flame is been extinguished by wind more for safety side.

  8. Thanks Easter! The hob looks neat. I am thinking of the inner flame one..

Yes would love to have the shop contact, pls PM me. Thanks in advance.

btw, I read somewhere, from greencoal's blog, that rinnai glasstop not lifetime guarantee, only 1 yr.

Honeykitty, I am looking at Rinnai 3 hobs too. maybe we can compare price and buy together see can get better price.

omg, I will want to check on this too, I saw the lifetime warranty sticker on the glass hob the person told me which makes me commit that time and thinking it is tempered glass. Hmm.. I will check with the person again,.

Oh ya the sale person also recommended me to the inner flame hob saying cleaning is a breeze, but its too expensive which is why I decided to drop it, I think the Hob alone cost $700+ but it is made of tempered glass so I guess should be safer

Took us quite some time to find the ideal type of study room concept that both of us wanted for our home office, may also be considering to add a recliner sofa chair for a cosy book reading corner :)

The top cabinet will be all covered up by casement doors, we cannot imagine the amount of dust it will accumulated if we don't.

  10. Hi Easte,

Is your house project Riverview arc?

Hi jessmt, yes my project is rivervale Arc, finally the long wait is over :)

Welcome to RT & Sengkang, Easter

    Thx dreamzgal :D

hi easter! congrats on ur new place! keep us all updated on ur reno journey! =) any theme ur going to adopt?

thanks ChinSer, not really a theme but we should be going minimalist, keeping things simple for our space constraint home while don't compromise on functionality

by the way...im looking at Rinnai Hob and Hood too....v plan to hv 3 burner hob....can PM me the shop's address??? Thanks...

glass top/ stainless steel top is better????

another 2 brands that we are looking at is Techno and Fujioh.....duno which 1 is good....we are more price concious type :D

Hi honeykitty, I have PMed you. Stainless steel top should be better in term of functionality and more lasting according to our parents, glass hob may have a issue to crack due to wear and tear but of course glass hob looks better which is why we still go for the glass type hehe. Fujioh and techno is also on my list previously, I believe they are good too, so you can shop around see which is the ideal one for you and also cost effectively :P

  11. nice work coming up dreamzgal, I'm sure your home will turn out great :thumbs up: love your basin and sink. Maybe I will go hoe kee to take a look too :)

I'm quite noob in tb, do you need to go through an agent like 65daigou to ship your things over or can just order from tb?

  12. Hi,

just sharing my views here only for others who have not installed aircon yet... (sorry to hijack yr blog here edd...)

it's always good to get the aircon guy to make 2-3 trips

1st trip: your ID/contractor , the aircon guy and yourself must be presented at your house to discuss how pipes/trunking are to be installed

(usually the aircon company will do this with no obligation to discuss on the running of pipes)

2nd trip: install the pipes and trunking...this is also the time yr ID/contractor needs to see and discuss with you on the built in wardrobe (if you are having it) or to have a box up partition or other items etc to cover the ugly trunking...

3rd trip (if need to) then they will come down to install the aircon units once the paint job or box up done...

    Just for sharing only... :)

wow thanks for sharing swaskie, it's very helpful, will take note. Ya I believe communication between ID and the air con guy is very important if not sure will have problems

  13. Hi Granitetop,

I didn't bought it from a shop. I just happened to pass by Expo fair last sunday when they are having this electronic fair.

And I think mine is not the best price, more of package price only.. maybe you can check around see whether have cheaper one.

Initially also thinking of Fujioh too since also from japan, but I think we happen to see rinnai so just got it, abit impulsive :bleah:

This person who sold me the hob and hood set I think their shop is based in ang mo kio, at first we still thought they are from Rinnai haha, if you want the address then I PM you.

Anyway My Hob is RB-7502D-GBS (sales person mentioned that the glass is of better quality and glass surface is lifetime warranty)

My Hood is RH-7502D-GBS (Like the concept that the metal plate above is tilted in a way that it will make the excess oil flow to the catch)

We still keep the phamplet with us heh..

ours is the first one , the $775 package
