  1. Is the wall color ok? I wanted white, is it too yellow? Still acceptable right?

Same thing for my house. After the white laminated carpentry went up, my off-white wall looked creamish too. Think hard to avoid unless we choose really stark white for paint colour..

  2. Kitchen + Digital Lock

To be honest, hubby and I must be the most hands off owners ever when dealing with our very first home renovation. Though back in SG, we were not around for the defects rectification / installation of stuff so far. *Oops*

Curtains up tomorrow! I'm not free and cannot be there to supervise the installation but hubby will be there. Will ask him to take some photos so I can share it tomorrow night!

  3. More pictures!

Nothing spectacular about our toilets as the tiles are all from HDB.

To cut cost, we did not change anything about the common toilet. Just added on the shower screen and did up a vanity cabinet with mirror.

For the master bedroom toilet, we changed the toilet bowl + basin and did up the shower screen as well.

All bathroom accessories from Song Cho have been drilled into place as well.

Will be buying dehub's toilet brush from taobao and placing them in both toilets.

  4. Hi JW,

I think leather care lotion / cream might work, even if it is synthetic leather. Mum's place sofa is synthetic leather, from year 2012. It's still ok now, no cracks. The leather care lotion was just some random purchase from the 'car care' section - lots of products available for car's leather seats.

Thanks Koori, I'll take care like real leather sofa and see how it goes

  5. Hi Jiawen, could I have your curtain supplier contact? I will collecting my key soon.

    PM-ed.

Have you confirmed an ID or decided on a theme? Will suggest to do the curtains only after the home design is firmed up.. It can be used to blend into the theme or jazz up the house nicely :)

  6. Hey guajiawen, nicely done up house!

our layout is very similar... and i'm also doing the shoe cabinet divider the way you did. So many things that I can resonate when seeing your design works.

I also chose Vincent as the curtain supplier and my living room curtain design is the one you chose for MBR! haha...

all the best in the final touch up and wishing you happy handover soon!!

Thanks mrslee! So qiao we have many commonalities for our Reno. V similar taste. ^five haha.

Saw ur 3D before, it's really nice. I'm sure both u n mrlee can't wait for handover too. will lookout for updates from ur blog :)

  7. Ya I really can't accept the joint lines.. That is why u need to avoid using white laminates...

How much did u pay for ur sanus bracket?

Haha. But I like the clean look of white laminates.. Can't have the best of all worlds I guess!

Got my sanus bracket for $120 from Kallang Mega Discount Store :)

  8. the best tip is not to buy synthetic leather sofa

i got a synthetic leather bench at my old place, last me less than a yr. my friend got a synthetic leather sofa, cracked within a yr too.

maybe you could try those leather care product. not sure if it will be effective.

Will try the leather cream... Still crossing fingers

    @jiawen

  10. Sofa Shopping

And so... today hubby and I went around shopping for sofa at IMM, The Furniture Mall beside IMM and Sungei Kadut. No fabric sofa for us as hubby don't like the feel of fabric sofa and we are afraid of accidental spills when kids come along in the future. I love L shaped sofas, so we set out looking for that.

Didn't really look much around IMM as I had the impression that they should be pricier than the outlets that we'll be visiting. So just walked around looking at designs. Visited Sungei Kadut next (instead of The Furniture Mall just beside IMM :bangwall: as I thought there should be more choices at Kadut area).

Went to the higher end shops at the beginning, looking for full or half leather sofas - Castilla, Star Living Furniture - Lucano, Sanzio - Handson. Saw a somewhat similar sofa as the picture at Castilla and Handson that I was so tempted to get. But they quoted 3k+ and that exceeded our budget. It's a 2.9m sofa with 1.8mm full cowhide leather. They were pretty atas and didn't provide options for half leather though.

    ScreenShot2014-07-15at84457pm.png

So we had to manage our expectations. In the end we decided that we will only be using the sofa for 5 yrs before moving on to a new home and likely won't bring the sofa along. So we headed out to more mass market shops to take a look - Nova, Uninnova, Novena and a few others. Didn't really find anything we like there.

From high end leather sofas to mass market was too much difference  I went around poking at sofa to determine the leather thickness, is it real leather and blah blah blah. Only a phrase to conclude - we get what we pay for. I very much prefer the high end leather sofa. But 3k+ was seriously too much :~

Didn't manage to find anything from Nova, Uninnova and Novena so decided to try Lorenzo at The Furniture Mall (yes, we went all the way back there!). Didn't find anything we like there too. But we still walked around and entered Star Living Furniture.

Saw this full synthetic leather model with a simple and sleek design that we really like! Deliberated back and forth and went to the shop like 3 times before we finally confirmed it. Details in the picture. $1,290 and comes with 1 year warranty for the synthetic leather, 2 years for the mechanical parts and 5 years for the structure I think.

    ScreenShot2014-07-15at84251pm.png

Star Living Furniture says strictly no bargaining across their outlets :dunno: so no further discount received.

To maximise its life span, we'll shield it from direct heat and sunlight and just cross fingers the sofa can last at least 4 years without cracking or peeling! Guess it should help that our living room won't get direct sunlight + it's not so hot.

P.s. Any tips about how else to maintain full synthetic leather aka PVC / PU leather?

  11. Wow.... 60 inches! Cool!! :jawdrop::jawdrop::bow::bow::good::good:

Haha, hubby says no TV in room. So we decided to indulge in a bigger TV in the living room :D

I see. 700 seems reasonable since its quite a huge mirror. Yes I can hear them too, my flat is jus opp both of the school too. I think there's digital expo fair. got sell washing machines etc. Maybe u can check there out for any remaining equipments tat u need haha

I've bought all my electronic stuffs.. Looking for furnitures now. Please share if you know of any lobangs! :P

Anyway, just curious, are we neighbours from the same estate? Coz you mention your flat is also opposite the schools.. Haha.

Movable condition... So clean now!!! When's the lucky charcoal date?

Yup it's pretty clean already! Just need two or three more complete clean + wipe down. But not moving in so soon... Likely in Sept. One more module to go. I can't wait to move in too..

  12. I see. I assume your flat is near the schools right?

Good to hear that, cos my flat floorplan is similar as yours, was either thinking to conceal the bomb shelter with just similar paint color or to adopt

your mirror idea. haha. Oh may I know how muchh you spend for the mirror concept b.s?

Yup my service yard faces the school field. Can hear all the active happy kids during recess time haha.

My bomb shelter feature wall is approx 6ft at $720. I used normal mirror, if I'm not mistaken tinted ones maybe more ex.. :)

  13. Curtains

My ID also introduced me to a curtain maker he found is quite good. His name is Vincent (not sure if its the same person I saw in others RT t blogs, but we got to meet another partner, Kay instead.

    Decided on the below:

    1. Living room - 60 to 70% dim-out night curtains (no day curtain)

Colour is pretty true to picture.

    2. MBR - 80 - 90% dim-out night curtains (no day curtain)

Colour is more true to 2nd picture.

Will show more pictures when the curtains are up. They are a local based company with pretty competitive prices. If services are good, will reveal their contacts and pricing as well.
