  1. dun think so, my id quote me same price for both thick and thin. I took thick thou ;p

Haha, smart choice there, more value for money! Esp if you like the thicker look of the granite top

    Where's the lights??? :P

You r v sharp! The chandelier doesn't come with the bulbs haha. I will be buying it when I'm back in SG. It's those E14 light bulb that can just "screw" into the light holder :notti:

Luv ur mirror bomb shelter, but will it block the shelter door? my kitchen top is also about the same thickness as your. my ID **** lousy, he claim that cannot under mount my granite sink.... really !@#@%#%$&^%* him.......

    Thanks DarkWingz!

The mirror bomb shelter actually have a tic tac door in the middle, that's why got the outline of a door there haha. So we have to open two doors (1st the tic tac mirror door then the bomb shelter door) to access our bomb shelter.

For the granite sink, we did hear from the heritage salesperson that not all IDs are comfortable to undermount them as they can break if not done properly.. Only those who are very confident will dare to help their customers do that. Maybe your ID don't want to take that risk? Somemore granite sinks are not cheap :dunno:

    Your hse is progressing well.

Really glad you got a very responsible ID & not to forget credit to your mum too for helping you to keep a lookout...

When back must invite for house visit ~~~:D

Thanks Songz, without your help my house won't have dining light yet :good:

Yup very thankful my ID is v responsible and we didn't have to worry bout the renovation. Crossing our fingers and toes at the start of our renovation really helps haha. I think my mum went down fewer than 5 times to look and see.. Eye power!

Ons for house visit, if you guys don't mind empty house with only carpentry work in July? If want to see after furnishings and deco, can come for round 2 in Sept :P

I like the chandelier u have the link?

Hi aspialle, thanks for dropping by my blog :)

    The chandelier link is http://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?spm=a1z10.4.w4004-4061643740.10.BfsDgv&id=3896038655.

It came in a nicely packed box with the components neatly placed in styrofoam within the box. No casualty for the item. The E14 lightbulb has to be purchased separately and is not included.

EDIT: Pic of the tmall packaging. pretty solid!

Pricing has increased though, its now 339.50rmb. I got it at 279.50rmb during promotion, about SGD$12 difference.

  2. Yes. That sound bar comes with a wireless sub woofer.

    • Sound bar with wireless active subwoofer delivers superior surround sound from TV and Blu-ray sources

Mr. Foo does his carpentry all with internal PVC, it is his norm the standard. So are the ABS trimmings.

Hence I would not say his price is the cheapest around though but also not the costliest.

I think I can phrase it this way, Mr. Foo has a certain standard that he wants to achieve and maintain.

He doesnt fill is plate to the brim but rather has sufficient work to go around.

Some house owners has rather unique expectation or requirement, he will rather forego the client than to push thru.

Eg. we both agreed that glossy white, back, red laminates combinations are very 80s, so if the house owners insists, he will persuade to change.

Else he will rather let it pass. The work he does must pass his self set standard and will not compromised if deem as a poor design.

Some may call it snobbish or arrogant but I view it as having passion and taking pride in his work.

These are some prerequisite when it comes to work, especially for an ID.

If the ID has no passion or pride, what one will get is duplicate of design litter all over this ID's projects.

I think sense of design really differs from person to person.. One mans meat is another mans poison. Most impt is to find an ID tts aligned with our needs and expectations?

My ID don't recommend coloured internal for kitchen as he find it weird and a waste of money, but say wardrobe is worth to pay extra for coloured.. Haha. So my house is exactly that :)

  3. I have never brought any things from TB before so I cant comment but I did ask my friends from China about TB, she told me TB is not a big thing in China now because of their quality issues. In China, they only use TB to buy items like clothing, bags, shoes or like what DarkWingZ mentioned racks, bin and accessories ... Her advise is get prepared to buy and throw if you shop at TB. She also mentioned those reviews and comments are all 'fake' and some information provided by seller are not true too. She said this is China!

Does this hold true for tmall as well? Agree that pics can be deceiving but there are renotalk bloggers who managed to find good gems from tb and tmall as well.. :dunno:

I thought a lot of furniture from tb can be seen in places like imm too... so probably same supplier? quality wise should be as good as what you see in Singapore if they import from China too..

Think those SG shops that import from China have employees who help to do strict QC. One of the issue with directly buying from China is there's no middleman to do the QC and reject bad quality items.

Cheaper price but comes with a risk I guess? Cos if lemon items reach an SG shop, they will handle the issue and ensure we get a good quality one. But if we receive a lemon item through TB, the exchange will be a nightmare..

  4. Oh..ok...so it may cost more for tinted mirrors... gotta take not of that too. :thumbs up:

    & that chandelier...awesome! :good:

Yup if decide to put up a big piece of mirror, the ID may just quote u a higher price that includes the range of different mirrors u can choose from. So may be worth to specify the mirror u want (if already decided) and ask him to quote directly..

And yes, awesome is the perfect word for the chandelier! Just crossing fingers magic duster will work it's magic when I'm cleaning it haha!

  5. hey babe,

    few questions

    1) What made you decide on using a Gas water heater instead of a electric storage tank heater?

    2) How much did you get the granite kitchen sink for? Any reason why you choose this over a stainless steel sink?

    appreciate your response!

    Hi there,

Decided to use gas heater for the savings it will bring.. And we bought the granite sink as the mister cannot stand metal / scrapping sound against stainless steel :)

  6. Morning LHWH, we use 3M Command Hanging Strips for our photo/picture frames. They can be installed onto the back of the frames very easily and just as easily taken out. Similar to you, we do not wish to drill any holes into our wall so we found that this option works the best! Of course if you are looking specifically for hooks, 3M Command brand also has them. Personally, I find the hanging strips better.

Here are the links on taobao (if you're purchasing it from there) as well as a demo video for 3M Command Strips:

    :good::good::good::good::good:

Great! I haven thought of buying 3M command strips from taobao. Intended to get it locally for my photos.

Thanks for the link, added it to my forever increasing taobao list haha..

Oh and congrats for the upcoming little one :)

  8. thanks for the info. one of the contractor was charging me $980.

Dont mind sharing your ID contact details and the breakdown quotation.

Hmm.. Maybe it's a bigger area? Or maybe to tinted mirrors.. heard those are more exp.

I've emailed you my ID details :)

  9. Hi guojiawen,

i really like the clean look of your kitchen cabinets..but i think we are going for a white table top instead cos we've been living with a black one for almost 15 years! hahaha. :dunno:

The mirrored tic tac door..looks kool! :good:

think ya can let me know how much it cost ya for that one?

    Thanks!

Hey there, thanks! I know what you mean.. I grew up in a "woody" house and decided to go all modern with white n grey for my new home too. Haha.

My mirrored tic tac door is about 6ft and cost $720 :)

  10. Hi jia wen

Depends on whether you like thick or thin table top.

One of the ID share with me that nowadays thin looks more modern.

Thicker ones looks like olden days kitchen.

However, I still prefer depth of 2 cm or 4 cm.

But thicker one is more expensive so have to see what your Id quote you.

Thanks Giselle, my ID just updated it's 2cm thick. Prob it just doesn't look so from the pic..

Didn't know that we can choose the thickness of the granite top till I went to google more last night. Always thought it comes as a thick slab haha!

My hubby looked at the pic and prefers it thin n not so chunky though, so I guess it works out well for us..

One a side note: For those considering granite top, may be good to confirm the thickness of the top when your ID quote you for it.. Just in case your preference and what the ID provides differ!

  11. Renovation Day 64 - 21 June

Some more updates for carpentry works.

Granite tops up for kitchen tables + hob put in place too! (This pic is abit blur)

    Toilet vanity carcasses both up.

    photo3.jpg

Initially wanted the common toilet vanity cabinet to be flushed to the wall on the left, so there's no gaps between the toilet wall and the vanity.. but it cannot be done as the toilet door will hit the vanity cabinet door :(

Finally... my bomb shelter mirrored tic tac door.
