  1. When we took over the unit, it was a sliding window. We just wanted more ventilation and light so we changed it to a louvered window. Wasn't too concerned about the design, but glad it turned out to fit the overall look of the home. Our main instruction was that the bars of the grilles should be aligned with the louvered windows when fully opened so that it minimizes the lines going across the window opening.
  2. We just decorated and adding vibrance to our kitchen. We hung a large framed poster of various local Kueh. It's now appetizing us every time enter our kitchen. [read more on our blog post here] Here's how it looks on the kitchen wall. Here's a closeup of the poster:
  3. Hi mellenur, it's just a standard plastic bifold door, not aluminum.
  4. A simple mix-and-match project that combines a Venetian mask with an Ikea lamp. The mask maker also made the masks for the movie Eyes Wide Shut. It's quite tall, so we were looking for a table lamp with a stand tall enough to fit it, but with a design simple enough not to draw attention away from the mask. Happy with the results of our mix-and-match! [read more no out blog post]
  5. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We're back from our overseas trip to celebrate the holidays with family and friends. Over the last two days, we had a couple of gatherings with groups of friends, so we transformed our study room to a cozy dining area, enough to comfortably sit 10. Here are some before and after pics of the makeover. [read more on our blog post here] Before: Our study on a typical day After: Our study converted into a cozy dining space
  6. Hi bSeek, Still here, but slow response as we have been overseas and only have intermittent internet access. Nope, we don't have any subcon's contact.
  7. We cooked our first complete meal yesterday, with minimal help from our mothers. The entire meal of chicken rice was cooked in the Miele Steam Oven – a heavy investment! It was an extremely simple process, considering our inexperience in cooking. Looking forward to maximizing the use of our steam oven and have more healthy steamed meals at home. [read more on our blog post] Here are some pics of the process... Our Miele Steam Oven: Preparation: The finished product:
  8. A picture of our affordable Ellane hob-hood setup – $650 for the entire setup – just enough for a couple who seldom cooks! [read more on our blog post]
  9. Here's a look at our bathrooms. Toilet accessories mainly from Song Cho. Mirror Cabinet from Ikea. Oil painting purchased in KL. [read more on our blog post] Master bathroom: Master bathroom (after & before): Common bathroom (after & before): Pictures as requested. The master bathroom is divided into four corners, with one for each function – shower, toilet bowl, sink and entrance.
  10. Starting our reviews of some appliances we purchased. We start of with our washer-dryer unit. We got the Miele W3370 washing machine and T8812C tumble dryer from Harvey Norman. We decided to invest a little more in this set because we have used them overseas and found them to be reliable and they will also be used very often. So far, we are particularly happy with quietness of the machines when in operation. It perfectly fits into our space allocation for our laundry area. [read more on our blog post]
  11. Thanks zihui and v4xystar... more pictures coming soon! There is no fixed panel besides those two small ones (light blue in the diagram)... It's a one sided screen. If we are not careful, the shower head might knock the top of the glass door. Just need to make sure it's either tilted back enough or higher than the door... At the shower head position, the door is already swing out, so here's quite a bit of clearance. Same as a normal one... although, we felt that it should be cheaper, since the amount of glass used is lesser in this case.
  12. Thanks! Coming soon (hopefully), once we finish unpacking... our home is now full of large boxes! Nope... we got our tracklights from lightings.com.sg
  13. 开火, 煮水 and had a first meal of 汤圆 with family on the first day of shifting in. [read more on our blog post]
  14. Woohoo! We shifted in yesterday... a special day for us! More pictures coming soon!... for now, a view of our walk-in wardrobe - Elfa storage system from Howards. Simple and clean, with wooden accents matching our Stave wall mirror from Ikea. [read more on our blog post]
  15. Thanks! Yup, it has been a long reno process... schedule got delayed due to HDB permit problems. Touching up the finishes today and hopefully will get our keys these few days!
  16. We're back! Took a week off our reno while our contractor apply his finishing touches. Here's a small post about our shower screen, which was recently completed due to breakage during the initial installation. We took inspiration from the Duravit OpenSpace shower screen, which is a perfect fit for our tiny bathroom space. The tempered glass panel is a shower screen when open and nicely folds away into a bath cabinet when closed. The handles also double up as rods for hanging stuff. [read more on our blog post]
  17. Near the end of renovation, settling the nitty gritty stuff. Here are some pics over the last couple of days.
  18. Almost done with our reno, just short of a few items then we can start to check through the place. Got our electrical trunking painted matt black to match the black industrial pipes. Now they all blend nicely together. Kudos to our painter for a job well done. The rest of the home is done in brilliant white, except for the back wall of the bedroom and study which are done in darker colours. Glad that with the lights, the ambiance we wanted is achieved – it's bright and spacious in the day and warm and cosy at night. [read more on our blog post]
  19. Thanks! Furnishing is going to be a challenge. Hopefully the furniture and appliances won't be burning too big a hole in our pockets.
