  1. wooowww :)

i was thrilled when i saw them on ur fotos. hehe. nvr met anyone who owns/plays a GuQin, u r the first! me played (been long time) guzheng... but guqin appeals to me more. lookg forward veri much to switching to guqin, juz tat i'd yet to figure out who in spore teaches tis unique musical instrument:p

True, few people play guqin esp in Spore. You can learn and buy your guqin from Three Tunes music shop at Chinatown point. I didnt learn from them but bought a few guqin from them. If you know guzheng, then you have good background to play guqin, though techniques can be quite different too.

Once a bimbo friend of mine saw my guqin and commented "I love your mini-guzheng, where did you get them?" I was like :dunno::jawdrop::rofl: Obviously she knows nuts about chinese instrument ;)

  2. Thanks for the review! Good to know the Toshiba Lucent Washer-Dryer's a good one - I decided to bite the bullet and get that despite the price instead of the cheaper LG model cos I liked the ergonomical design of the tilted drum. Just one other question - did you encounter any shrinkage of your clothes after using the dryer function? Have heard stories of clothes shrinking after being through the dryer and have yet to decide if I'd just use the dryer for towels and bedding or for regular clothes as well. Thanks! ;0)

I find my clothes still okay at least not worse than before at my old place where I was using a standalone dryer.

This toshiba should be better because it is using condensing method to dry hence the long drying cycle, the hot air blast only comes last, the laundry area stays cool, unlike conventional dryer which is venting out hot air all the time. So shrinkage should minimise. I guess air-dry is best if want to avoid shrinkage !! Actually you can play around with the drying mode, one even allow it to be dry but slightly damp then you can iron to finish off.

The tilt drum is !! easy to load/unload clothes wo breaking your back.

HEY, u got a piece of GU QIN on the wall !!!

do u play? or juz for decor? hehe

!! actually there are one each on living and bedroom and one on the qin-zhuo. You guess leh...deco or play? Well finally got one wen-ren who knows what is a guqin. You play ? or other chinese instrument?

  3. I agree YH & fefco more ex but I do find their stuff better quality. Yue Hwa and fefco must go during their sale. In fact got most items when they having sale.

The washer-dryer is good. Evrything comes out dry and hot, and not wrinkly.

Do not mix thick items like towel among your daily clothes, otherwise evrthing dry except the towel, think the sensor stop the drying when sense most are dry.

But for thick items like towel, best to wash them together. Even then they will 'feel' damp after done, just spread them out for a while then ok liow.

It is extremely quiet during operation you can even do laundry even middle of the nite :sport-smiley-018:

Another nice thing is you dont have to transfer from washer to dryer, it is all in one, good for lazy bum.

The main bad point is the cycle is very long can be up to 3-4hours depending on the wash mode and load. But is something I can live with.

    Hope this mini review helps.

  4. welcome to renotalk

your place is really nicely done up :( :(

can ask where you got your furnitures from?

From Gnee Hong near Bras Basah, Feffco @ river valley rd, Singapore Handicrafts @ Eunos, and Yue Hwa @ Chinatown. Got the Duobaoke, chair set, and lamps from them.

"Really eye opening for me to see so many Ming artifacts. Must be veri costly and careful to have so many of them in ur apartment. "

:( They are chinese ming style furniture, but not antiques. They can be quite costly but can last very long.

The smaller deco pieces are collected mainly from China, Japan and Korea. Some are antiques some are fairly new pieces. I am not really into antiques but will keep an item if they are wellmade and beautiful, so they dont have to be too expensive.

  5. Cool! You've got a really lovely place - certainly unusual. I especially like the look of the place when lit up with warm light. Do share more pix, perhaps of the bedroom? Am keen to see what type of bed you got to fit in with your oriental theme!

!! There is no bed....I sleep on a futon which I can fold up and chuck into the cupboard in the day time. I normally dont do that unless got visitor coming, so as to free up more space....you know space is premium coz onli 600sqf

  6. Got this small studio early this year. Still good condition. Reno just repainting, add some lighting and mainly do up the bathroom. Aircon, fridge still good condition so no need to buy new. Throw out the 'old' rusty dingy sharp washer. Anyway I need a dryer too. Decided to get those washer-dryer combo type as the bathroom is too small to stack dryer, will block the window for ventilation. Got a bosch dishwasher as well, lazy to do dishes. Spend quite a sum on chinese furniture and silk carpet. Just completed reno 3 weeks ago.

!! just wanna share a ming chinese style deco simple and yet refine as I find most people do their interior 'modern' or western style. It is something different.

For me, I love chinese culture, tradition and arts n crafts hence doing up as shown. painted the bedroom deep red-brick colour ala the colour of the wall of the forbidden city.

lastly my favourite appliance for the lazy me. :(

  7. Yup...taking my time, no hurry coz no point over-paying.

Yeah, the 4A unit is admittedly on high flr plus partial seaview val is 380K but asking 480K.

I was looking at Bayshore Park which is a very nice condo on the east coast ard late March...a 2 bedroom unit 85sqm cost only ard 500K.

I dint buy that but got a unit at pasir panjang instead with full facilities and spacious compound and I can tell you guys....the price is below 480K.

That is why I will never pay that much for HDB.

But to be fair, price has risen sharply since then, Bayshore going for 650k-850K asking now. Maybe the tlk blangah unit worth 480K now?

    You be the judge.

  8. I am looking for those newer 5-7yo 4A type around depot rd, tlk blangah hgts and teban gardens.

Recently called up to enquire both unit at tlk blangah hgts, one mid-flr val 340k asking 410k, another higher flr val 380k asking 480k. that is 70k and 100k respectively. I think is a bit on high side.

Any one bought flat recently and what COV do you have to pay?

I think the most I willing to pay is 50-60k COV providing they are very high floors and unblock view. Is this a reasonable budget in this bullish market? :dancingqueen:

  9. hmm, this is rather difficult to answer

think it's best if you check with hdb about it

but from what i read, as long as you are eligible why not?

just that how are you going to service both loans?

that means 2 x whatever you are paying now :bangwall:

Yup probably have to ask HDB.

Anyway is that why people always arranged to sell and buy back to back?

Anyone here who has sell and buy HDB back to back can comment regarding the loan part?

  10. Yes, applefreak is right! However, I do not really advise u to buy first unless u holding a unit which is easy to sell.E.g 3 or 4 rm or in very excellent locations. Some agents might ask u to buy first then pressure u to sell yrs at a lower price later. After u buy, u will hv abt 6 mths to dispose yr current flat. Any extension needed in case u cant sell yr flat, HDB needs to see yr agent's advertising proof...

Thanks for the advise. I am looking to buy first because my target unit is very specifc at only a few blks above certain floor level at a particular location, hence i think it will not be easy to find a seller.

My unit should be easy to sell.....it is a 2+1 unit just 5 mins walk from Tiong Bahru mrt.

Will HDB grant me a new loan to buy the new HDB first if I havent sold off my current flat?

  11. Here's a good link that talks about the pros and cons of induction cookers:

    http://theinductionsite.com/proandcon.shtml

From what it says, unless you are cooking as much as a restaurant does, the costs invovled (in terms of power consumption) is not going to be very different from conventional cookers.

I'm planning to get one so I would really be grateful if anyone who has one can share his/her experiences.

Most of the shops I visited discourage me from buying it.. but I really like the pros of having one.. :(

which shop/brand sell induction hob, i need the smallest one 30cm 2 cooker type?

  12. western big investors now hype up the market when time is right...they pull out..causing a big mess to China...a plot to bring China down, when the stock market down, will agect all asia stock market, then also will affect peoperty market. so now the period is not good to invest high risk investment.

    Wow! Conspiracy theory huh?

I think the property market will move up for quite a few years. This supported by economic fundamental, Spore economy has seen continuing good growth since 2004, IR factor, pop target of 6.5million, influx of foreigners.

In fact Anglo countries like UK, Australia, NZ and US (bubble just pop) has seen their property market going up for a long time in some cases up to 10 years with no sign of a downturn. Even when it pop, there is no gurantee it will drop below the level where it begun its ascent.

There is no doubt there will be a downturn but when?

Are you willing to wait like 3 years, 5 years or 10 years for your dream home? If you can then wait lor but I suspect it will a long while.

  13. I am keen to install a low-profile one piece wc which I saw @ Lookz, think the price is $400+ and I forgot the brand already. I also searched the net and found some nice design from mcClaire. Anybody using this type of wc and any comment regarding the flushing etc? Seem like the water storage will be quite low, wonder it will be strong enough for flushing and reliabity and such?

I am interested in any reviews from owners that are particularly pleased with their wc.
