  1. yeah.. should be quite expensive to do it ourselves.

Wa sorry to hear about your screeding challenge.. But i guess it saved you some money having hdb do it for you.. not cheap for contractor to do also..

ya lor.. i think i recently quite suay.. haha

if not using rain shower.. den just get the cheapest one?

sometimes i think this kind of thing is heng sway

nope, am not installing rain shower

  2. i also want to use this model, but exactly which model is suitable or better or what are the difference I'm also not very sure, still thinking which to install for my place.

Ya.. I think not much difference? I only remember the ferroli model has higher flow rate?

    Are you installing rain shower?

  3. Hmm, i'm also not very sure. maybe its really spray paint.

    which explain the poor quality...

a few of our neighbours asked the BSC to rectify the problem and the workers created new damages on the panel when they tried to scrap off the paint.

I dont think this is powder coat. Powder coating is even and smooth, kinda like spray paint.

Powder coat is can be scratched but never hear that it can be remove by masking tape.

  4. My window grills problem - Part 2

Sadly, there is part 2 to this. They told me on Sat that they will install the windows and remove the extra grill on Tuesday.

As usual, timing can only let me know on Monday. So Monday afternoon i called them up again, and guess what.. they can only make it on Wednesday.

Let's hope everything end on Wednesday

So is it really true that - cheap things (or service) no good? good things no cheap?

Or ''Cheap, good, fast'' can only choose 2?

What happen to the cheaper, better, faster?

    hahaha..

  5. My window grills problem

I did not take my service yard windows & grills from my contractor cause i found this company that offer me much cheaper price.

so, I fixed the appointment to install my window grills on 27/6 few weeks back.

Few days before the installation date, I called up the company to ensure they do not forget and also ask for the exact timing (we only fixed the date).

They told me they will only let me know 1 day before appointment. That's ok.

So the day before, I waited but there is no call from them. So i called them up and guess what, they cannot come on 24/6.

Cause the windows are not ready, they can only come on the following Monday 30/6.

My contractor has already planned to lay the flooring on Monday, so they have to come either on 27/6 or 28/6.

After much ding-dong here and there, they agreed to come on the Saturday 28/6 9am-12pm.

On that Saturday, i waited till 1230pm but nobody came. Called their office but nobody is working on Sat.

Was so angry and I left.

When I reached home, I remembered that i have the Hp number of the sales person. So I called him up and after some checking, he told me that the installation team actually reach there about 1245 (luckily there was 1 worker there) and they already installed the windows & grills.

So in the evening i head back to check if the installation is ok.

Everything seems ok except that they did not install the windows (cause measurement wrong) and install grills at my air-con ledge window which i don't need.

  6. oh.... saw these photos and i recognize your unit... :D

D doesn't like the current HDB tiles in the toilet as well as the kitchen, not to her liking. Having said so, we intend to live here for a period of time, so we decided to do what is right for us which is to overlay the current tiles, as we cannot hack out the current tiles. Therefore as you can see in my previous update, we strip the toilet "naked" :notti:

    14292021967_a4318b0df3_c.jpg14291889198_07319727d4_c.jpg

took us quite a bit of time to decide on the right one and we finally narrowed down to 2 choices..

    14531911904_924133af32.jpg OR 14346909547_c8a6570748.jpg

concurrently, we screed the kitchen walls too

  7. i also noticed that there are damages on my front door.

due to things (stones, sharp objects) they used as door stopper

told my contractor and he say he will settle. dont know how he is going to do it.

    anybody has any idea?

  8. Lousy window panel by HDB

this is a common problem for my BTO. the powder coating will come off if we using masking tape on it (when they paint)

    10i7wbo.jpg

I can ask BSC to rectify it for me.. but feel like ignoring it and let it be. since i will be installing window grills.

    Should i? :dunno:

  9. my contractor did ask me if i want slope or step.. i guess step is better TC washing?

i did voice out on the your concern before.. he mentioned that there is this aluminium sleeve and vinyl is water proof.. so i guess should be fine..

are u also on the same floor as me? :D

want to do the same as your front entrance, but worried that when TC do the washing, water will seep below the vinyl. I walked past your place yesterday, from the outside look like country style with the design at the bottom of the wall.

from what i read online.. understand that those filter will help to 'remove' the smell...

haha your place already done swee swee.. very nice alr la~ :thumbs up:

i think its considered as carpentry work...

hmm... actually i nv really research much on hood~ i have purchased my hood before i went to Hoe Kee where they introduce to me this hood (the one eelnaes purchased. which they do not need any filter, just to wash the tray. Save cost in long run as well.

haha~ too late for me to think about it now~ is consider as carpentry work right?

  10. haha we decide on just the windows/door removal because of the cost. thought it will be a lot cheaper compared to whole wall removal..

This is a great idea. I did a similar removal. Matter of fact I hack away the walls as well.

Kitchen feels more spacious and more natural light. The walls , windows are pretty redundant..

Imagine where all the fumes escape to when cooking? Surely not living room. :bleah:

  11. haha PTopaz, technically we still need to wash and wipe the hood. my "maintenance free" mean no need to buy/change filter. Just wash will do.

is it expensive to have design at the bottom half of the wall?? nice~

My contractor quoted me $900. The cheapest among all the quotes i received. Mr k quoted me 2.8k iirc.

  12. Hi, i intend to install this fan in my living room. i have downlights there too. so brightness is not so much of our concern.

we just want to have a combination of white and warm lights.

but i'll let u know once i install the fan and if it is bright enough. :)

Hi Raydon, is this light bright enough for your room? I'm about to purchase the fan with light also, just wonder how bright it is. How much you pay for this fan?

  13. about 1 week after i got my keys. from request to completion took about 2 months.

but normally it should only take 4 weeks?

i read from another blog that if you intend to hack your walls, you should do it after hacking. if not this can be the first item on ur renovation list.

if u intend to lay cables and hide it using the screed, then i guess u have to do it before that.

    :)

Hello there! I have a similar floorplan to yours! really looking forward to your renovations as well hahah! anyway i've something to check, how long it took you to go request for the cement screeding? Im planning to do laminates flooring for my flat, do i have to request for the cement screeding immediately after i get my keys or i can wait a few months later when i start my renovation?

  14. Air-Con pipes installation day!

My contractor told me he will be there to co-ordinate with the air con pple. being the worried kind, i also took leave to ensure everything goes smoothly.

and true enough, my contractor didn't make it at the appointment time. lucky i was there.

Took a few photo of the progress first.

Wall lining and cornices all up.

  15. Thanks for sharing. :)

But i have let my contractor do it already. They will lay the floor this coming Monday.

Actually they did gave my bto this group buy price at 5.8psf + gst. But still out of my budget hahahaa

Have you picked ur vinyl flooring? Evorich having an anniversary promo, 6.50 psf but with GST waived off... u may wish to consider it? Only for this weekend!

  16. We did not pay cause the HDB supervisor in charge told us not to.

this is what he said. If the depth is more than 40mm, then it is the fault of the main contractor (the one that built the flat) and they will level the floor up to the desired level.

then the sub-con will proceed to do the 40mm.

however, i realise that it depends on the HDB supervisor in charge. I think some of them are bo chup kind. my estate itself got 2 in-charge.

the other guy (who take cares of other blocks) just tell the residents to pay the money.

Hi, I'm also getting vinyl flooring for my new BTO. So in the end do we still need to pay for the extra 5mm for the cement screeding if we request the HDB sub contractor? Thanks in advance!

  17. basically most of our time is spent preparing for our photoshoot in sept, wedding next year and renovations

and one fine day we realise that we actually had some free time :dancingqueen:, so window shopping @ ikea we go!

this is when we saw their wardrobe and we realize something different about their wardrobe.

their door! their door sliding mechanism is inside

    2mrdtfb.jpg

    2179sm.jpg

meaning their door will appear bigger on the outside

    QUADRA_ROBE_1_Zoom.jpg

unlike typical wardrobe where the slide mechanism is on the top and bottom.

    imperial-alpine-white-3-door-sliding-war

unfortunately, my contractor told me that will be extra cost.. and its not cheap..

so we stick to the standard kind.. :(

  18. my contractor showed us his wardrobe design and we don't really like it.

so its back to the drawing board (internet actually)

searched high and low and found something we like.

    waoh76.jpg

    206ewe1.jpg

thats it! this is the one! So we just show him this and he will do accordingly.

    haha.

then comes the laminates selection. another headache. (renovation is such a headache hahaha)

after much thought.. these are what we chosen.

    ljeyx.jpg

let hope it turn out nice.
