Hi I read that you laid vinyl for your whole house and hdb did thrnscreeding. Any issues thus far for the flooring? Like unevenness or hollow sounds?

Sorry peeps! it's been a long time since i came in.. thought there is no interest anymore. lol

i think it's too late for me to reply you all.. but i'll just do it anyway

uneven-ness - yes.. quite obvious too.. but i can live with it.. and nothing i can do with it too.. haha

have PM rest of the guys my contractor details... haha

for those that want my contractor details.. can PM me.. so i will get email alerts and reply you promptly...

    thanks!

  2. yeah.. get the cheaper one... few years later you can change again if you dont like it anymore! haha

    Thanks for the information.

90cm x 65cm quite small I feel. The ID said my L-shape shower screen is 90cm x 90cm which I thought was quite ok, but still have to depends on the actual size of the bathroom after I collected the keys.

Will go for the basin mirror! save me $420! :good:

my rinnai city gas water heater not working very well..i believe it is still under warranty..

do i call rinnai or city gas ?

  3. Hi mmoh,

it is about 90cm x 65 cm. honestly i feel its quite a small space... can feel quite restricted...

my contractor quoted me $880 for it.. which is **** expensive.. i asked for overall discount..

i did search for direct supplier and the price is about what your contractor quoted you...

the basin mirror cost me $60 each from IKEA.

    Hi Raydon

Sorry to see the water leakage. Hope HDB can give a satisfactory solution to it.

I am interested in your shower screen in the common bathroom. May I know the length & width? Does a medium build guy feel restricted inside? As in bang here bang there during normal shower? How much does your contractor quote you for this?

For my bathroom, the ID quoted:

3' top hung cabinet with mirror - $480 (which I think your basin mirror can replace this, how much u bought from ikea?)

    3' vanity cabinet - $390

    3' solid surface - $240

    Shower Screen L shape - $650

  4. thanks bro for your help! they came today and will arrange the main contractor to repair the pipe.. they will hack from the toilet side...

they wanted to do it ASAP because they think the leak is bad.. and if carry on may even affect my neighbors downstairs..

after that is done, i dont know if i want to paint my wall again or just leave it be.. hahhaa

At least we have narrowed down the possible root cause. If hacking is required, then HDB need to answer who will pay for the hacking fees, applying fees, haulage etc.

If want to be even nastier to HDB, ask them to cover some of the defects esp. when it comes to 'water proofing' because it is in their 'policy' to prevent water leakage esp. to those in the bathroom. If not why do we pay so much and not allowed to hack toilet tiles etc?

To be critical, a 'feedback' letter to town council can be done too.

i hope i didn't sound too critical and making a fuss out of a mole hill. If you just want it to be rectified, like your contractor say contact HDB first, ask them about the issue and who will pay if hacking is required.

Because if the leak gets worst and worst, the water proofing will not help you in your MBR as the water proofing is only in the toilet and soon, your neighbour will complain.

Then can ask HDB, if they want 2 issues or 1 :notti::notti: i better stop commenting.

  5. yes, it is much cooler compared to the other parts of the wall..

I jus called my contractor, and he says most likely is water leakage. advise that i call HDB first.

my flat is more than a year.. sigh...

Hi, depending on how fast you want it to be done. We have contacted HDB contractors before and their response are fast, just that the timing etc if i would have a choice wouldn't want to call them. Outside contractor do faster, but more expensive.

After a year, they will still charge you at market rate. This actually is unacceptable to have leakage inside a wall but before we jump to conclusion, i would firstly call the HDB contractor arrange a time and let them diagnose. concurrently you can ask your previous contractor that does plumbing for 2nd opinion.

    Then you can decide.

the 'mold' area is cooler to touch compared to the surrounding?

  6. Hi benetay, thanks for the prompt reply!

I'm actually using city gas heater.

    2vdfhwz.jpg

this is how the pipe run behind this wall (taken from my toilet)

since this is done by hdb, should i call my contractor or HDB?

Raydon, call a contractor to take a look at this, the pipe is much closer to the wall then we think and it actually is 'touching' the wall on the other side. The cement must have 'leak' it across.

There might be a small leak. If the contractor can identify the actual area of the leak, it will be a small job.

Are you using instant or storage heater?

    hope this helps.

  7. ISSUES - Molding on my wall

I realized there is this patch of my paint that is in different tone few weeks back (looks like its wet)

didn't take much care about it

however, realise the patch is growing. upon closer inspection, it looks like mold is growing and spreading!

    1z4wuuw.jpg

    fnsgnt.jpg

they are on the same wall.. and it happen that water pipes inside these walls...

    24yo38o.png

    blue is pipe

red is where the molds are

    black is the power switches

can anyone advise what i should do?

is the pipe leaking that is causing it?

    :help:

  8. I like how you matched ur coffee table and TV console together. :)

Nice and simple table too. Did you unpack and fix all by yourself? Tempted to buy from taobao my tv console and dining table too. But worried about the quality if it is sturdy enough?

    Any comments on yours?

    Thanks

    Hi chilarvet! thanks!

Yes, I unpack and fixed it all by myself. There are no instructions given, but luckily its quite straight forward.

The quality it quite good. The wood is heavy and steady.

The downside, though, is the damages due to shipment.

took some photo of the damages.

but i guess i can live with it.

for the coffee table, i'll try sand it and paint it white.

  9. Hi Raydon,

Mind sharing with me how much your ID quote you for this style of kitchen cabinets? I'm looking to do the same country style like yours but I keep getting super high quotes from a lot of IDs.

Btw what is the total length of your kitchen cabinets top and bottom too?

Love your kitchen!!!:) wish I can do the same for mine too.

    Hi Chilarvet,

Thanks!! :) I think there are many ways to do this kind of cabinets.

Mine is paint ( for the frame) and laminate for rest. the bad side for paint is that it may turn yellow-ish and/or sticky if not maintained properly.

My kitchen cabinet cost me about S$6.2k.

The sink & stove side is 23.5ft total for top and bottom.

The opposite side is 8ft bottom.

    iQuartz table top 18.5ft

my contractor did gave me further discount based on the whole package...

You are so right ... maybe I'm used to top-mount sink all these while. When I compared the one I bought with the old top sink, it's bigger but looked so small when mounted under the counter-top ... sigh ... cannot change liao.

i feel your pain.. and there is nothing we can do.... haiz...

Good taste for taps. Ceiling fan doesn't compliment your design and the wardrobe looks very ikea. Hope your colour scheme turns out well.

thanks for the compliment and suggestions. i hope so too.

Saw yr post at most thread. Are u here to create trouble by insulting everyone?

    Hi bizkid79, cheers~

  10. sure! no problem! haha

Oh, thanks for resending the picture, my apologies for asking again. I having trouble with my placement of wardrobe and this window ledge is driving me nuts... :help:

hi fctam, i'll pm you instead...

Hi! Can share your contractor contact?

  11. Hi binzz,

This is what my contractor did. I suppose this should be the usual way of doing it.

    :)

    Hi Hannybal,

    2pqotcg.jpg

hope this photo is clear enough. we jus need to unscrew the board and can access the windows..

but i have not open it yet.. did not have screw driver with me jus now..

Hi, may I ask if you hide your window ledge in your wardrobe? Mind to share a pic of how you hide? Thanks.

  12. Hi all,

just realised i have not update this blog for more than 2 weeks.

finally completed the renovation of my flat. now left is the furnishings.

I'll give a short review of my contractor. Overall, i will recommend my contractor to anyone if ask..

    it's quite a positive experience...

    Pros:

    - Very fast. most of the time, he is waiting for me rather than me waiting for him

    - Open to ideas, and give practical suggestions to improve your ideas

    - Will rectify any issues/defects promptly

    - general comments is that his workmanship is rather good

    Cons:

    - some of the items he charge is not exactly cheap. however, the good thing is that most of these items you can get from direct supplier (window grills, shower screen, vinyl flooring etc)

    - like most contractors, he does not provide overall 3d drawings. the only 3d drawings will be your carpentry

    - does not provide frequent updates, coupled with the fact that he does things v fast. there are times whereby i wanted to change some designs only to realise that he has completed the work

    - sometimes he will make his own decision to change the design. Initially the idea is to put the oven below our hob but he switch it to the other side w/o informing us. the reason he gave was that he find it too cramp to put everything on one side. no issue for us, as we find that the overall look is still ok (however, i feel that if we insist, he will change it back for us). So, if anyone interested to engage him, do be very specific on your instructions.

this is my first renovation, so I'm not sure if these points are relevant a not.

Don't worry, he is not giving me any commission nor discounts to post this. hahahaha

  13. and lastly our vanity.. initially, we wanted white colour.. but we thought it will be too boring with everything white..

so we tried something different.. choose grey instead...

had a little shock when i saw it.. first, why is the side so high!! :jawdrop:

second, its a little grey-er than expected.. but this is still acceptable..

going to ask my contractor lower the 'border'...

    overall look (extremely blur photos)

    with my ikea mirror..

in conclusion, the colour combination doesn't turn out that well.. guess thats why im not an ID afterall.. hahah

  14. Our kitchen faucet installed...

    2cfazoy.jpg

installed a small piece of solid surface on the wall in btw kitchen and service yard

initially wanted to install tiles but my contractor suggested this.

    29blcia.jpg

noticed the small piece of blue tape? they installed the everything w/o removing it.. now i had a hard time removing it cleanly...

tried to pull it out but the silicon is coming out with it.. haha

going to throw this back to my contractor...

  15. Hi! they installed it today. went over and check, looks like no leaking issues...

hope it stay this way.. :)

amazing you even bought the toilet sink off tao bao... how's the installation so far? any leakages? the pricing is really half of what they sell in hoe kee it seems

Hi! I have not talk to my contractor yet.. but here is the photo i took today..

    looks like silicon to me...

    2i78wo6.jpg

Please share how your contractor covered up the exposed lines! Really want to find out.. :)
