  1. Hey everyone, just wanted to share how it has been after staying here for more than 3 years ....

    • all my carpentry and hinges are in excellent/almost new condition still, nothing has warped nor fell apart all thanks to Contractor J
    • all my furnitures from Taobao are still in excellent condition

but the only problem I've had are the water faucets (taps) and the pipes linked to it. Just two weeks ago I had to get a plumber in to change away all the taps in the masterbed room and common room toilet , as well as kitchen tap (not from taobao but this is the 2nd time I'm changing). The ones I bought from Taobao were all rusty and plumber told me the pipes were going to burst, water that was coming out are all rusty because of the horrible quality 'stainless steel' from China. He changed everything for me to an 100% Italian faucet, about $150 each and mentioned I will be able to use them for at least the next 5 years.

Moral of the story - you can buy everything for your house from Taobao EXCEPT their so claimed stainless steel faucets or anything that touches water because they are definitely a nightmare :bangwall:

Hope my experience will be a valuable one for everyone setting their homes!

(I've cleared my inbox by the way!)

  2. Happy New Year everyone!! Hope the feasting and celebrations has been great!

Just wanted to share a little about how the quality of Contractor J has been after staying in this house for almost 3 years as I've received several enquiries on durability and quality...

Renovation durability : I haven't had a single problem with any carpentry works etc which Contract J has done for me. Everything is working perfectly and infact new condition maybe because I've been taking good care of everything :D Shoe cabinet, wardrobe, kitchen cabinets are all doing really well and super sturdy.

KompacPlus Kitchen Top: This kitchen top is great! Apart from the oil stains at gets on KompacPlus occasionally that's easily cleaned off with a wet cloth, it looks brand new hahaha

Taobao loots: My TV console, table, chairs, lightings are in excellent condition. Until today I've only changed my dining light bulbs once lol :yeah: The only issue I have that was bought from taobao are the toilet faucet taps and bidet spray - the faucet seems to be tougher to maintain and my bidet spray started leaking half a year back but I suspect its just due to daily usage but from this experience, I will never purchase any toilet related faucet, taps or even shower heads etc from taobao because the quality is really bad compared to original brands that can probably last many years.

Very thankful for having such a wonderful home because happy home, happy life :D:D:D And anyone who visits my place always compliments how Contractor J did a beautiful job. Recently my colleagues came and they exclaimed as well which makes us very pleased till date.

Free free to drop me any messages and I'll try to reply! Cheers to 2017!!!

    Hi

Wanted to ask how is the kompacplus countertop now that you have used it for some time and likely to have more accurate review for it. Any reviews is greatly appreciated as I am torn with deciding between it and quartz. Not sure if it is as waterproof, heat resistant, scratch proof as it claims to be and there are not much review online from users who have used it for some time.

Thank you very much in advance.

    Helo djnt,

My kompacplus countertop is working great - no issues after almost 2 years. It is indeed waterproof, heat resistant and it can hold slight scratches. There was once I accidentally used a corner of my chopper and it scratched the top. It wasnt very serious luckily and i rubbed it off a little - can't notice it if you don't scrutinize the top thankfully!

  6. great to hear is it working well!

can u advise the address and contact no where u gotten the fino fan? is it version 1? how much does it cost?

    thanks!

btw for the craftbrick, do u think is recommended to get from tb? i heard some pple said the brick is powdery.

May I know for your WIW, do you hack any walls? is it possible to post photos of your WIW. much appreicated!

    Hi,

The fino fan is version 1 and it costs less than $300 from Malaysia. I suspect its way cheaper now because of the exchange rate.

For the craftbricks I purchased it from taobao. I find my craftbrick quality pretty good - after it's fixed when I use my hands to rub over it there is no powder coming off. The only difference I noticed between the one from SG and TB is that the brick could be slightly smaller, like less than 10mm I think so it is insignificant unless you compare it side by side.

For my WIW, I didn't hack any wall - will send you photos this weekend when I'm around :)

  7. ********** ALERT **********

A few renotalk users messaged me and shared that there are other people who sent them Contractor J contact but it turns out that it is not Contractor J. To avoid any mistakes or scams, please only get Contractor J's contact from me.

guess there are just many other contractors sneaking around trying to send their own contact to potential homeowners so do be wary.

  8. Hi, can you share the link of the bathroom plush mat and customised curtain as well? Is the quality good for the curtains?

    TIA

    Bathroom Plush Mat

BEST MAT EVER, ALL MY GUESTS COMMENTED HOW WONDERFUL THAT MAT IS WHENEVER THEY STEP OUT FROM MY BATHROOM

    LINK: http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.0.0.5xGSbl&id=19107439177

    Customized Curtain

Paid about $600 for whole house curtain including day and night curtain **** and 90% sun block curtain for three rooms. Quality is fantastic but the tricky part contacting the seller to customize the exact dimensions. I was quite lucky and all the dimensions came to be 100% accurate and perfect for the house :thumbs up:

UPDATE ON TAOBAO GOODS AFTER USING FOR 6 MONTHS

Hello everyone! I just wanted to do an update on the quality of taobao goods after using them for 6 months.

So far everything I've bought, all is working well infact extremely well EXCEPT

DISCLAMER: ALL THE TAPS/ACCESSORIES I BOUGHT FROM TAOBAO IS STAINLESS STEEL AS DESCRIBED BY SELLER.

    1. Toilet Accessories Such as Shampoo and body wash rack

They have started to rust even though there's no scratch, nothing! Its horrible!

    2. Water Tap / Sink Stopper

Think even though they say its 100% stainless steel etc, somehow its very difficult to maintain the look and the surface looks uneven with stuff growing on it that cannot be scrubbed of. Its quite fustrating because previously I was using a Germany made water tap for my previous house and after two years it still looks like brand new. What you pay is really what you get and how long you can use it for. One of the toilet tap is also not functioning well where the water coming out flows slanted.

    3. Kitchen Tap

Just this week, the kitchen tap started to leak, everywhere! I contacted Contractor J and his worker and they told me that all those homes whom they installed kitchen taps from Taobao wouldn't last. He always had to get the plumber to go back after 3-6 months to get the homeowner to buy a good quality Kitchen Tap. So yesterday I went back down to Heritage Bathroom and bought an expensive kitchen tap instead to replace the old one and hopefully it doesn't give me any problem.

Despite the fact that the kitchen tap was sold on taobao with more than 10,000 ratings that is it 100% stainless, the tap started looking a little rusty after 6 months and the leak was quite bad. Heritage bathroom salesgirl told me that it could be possible that the material is mixed with other alloys that is not pure thats why its rusty inside. Super bad experience.

    So here's my advice:

You can buy anything from Taobao from table to TV console to curtains - EVERYTHING EXCEPT for sinks/taps/toilet accessories even if they vouch that its 100% stainless steel. My lesson learnt and your money saved :jawdrop: :jammin:

  10. Hi there, please PM me if you need any information as I rarely check back this site and not sure who I replied and who I didn't,

Also just to clarify, Contractor J is currently not HDB registered as he shared with me that in order to be HDB registered he need to hire a graduate with a certain certificate and the workers he have now are all old experienced carpenters who has been with him for many years. He is looking to be HDB registered soon once he finds someone.

Contractor J is also a very honest contractor thus he does not do anything that is against the rule like concealing certain electrical wiring that's not approved or carrying out certain works that is not advised. This is one of the reason why I contracted him too, that he is honest with integrity and does not overcharge. I hope this clarifies some of the doubts :D
