  1. Aluminum works II

I have attached videos on how the shower screen works for people who will ask on the mechanism.Sharing is caring.

Material wise is black powder coated aluminium and i dont have the horizontal bar across as will need to use thicker material and not efficient to keep the water out.For my screen, the material is semi heavy duty and not flimsy.

For the common bathroom screen - 2 fixed panel and 2 sliding.

behind this wall will be dining area, reason built this wall is firstly for fengshui (no direct view to windows/door), 2ndly cos i bought a 2m dining table, too long cant fit anywhere, lastly to install the dining light switch on it :)

ceiling with 6" gap near the window for double curtain tracks later, i didn wanna install the curtain below existing window beam as i think it will make my unit look shorter than it already is

  5. measurement done for false ceiling, materials on site. had a discussion with ID on the opening size, location, lines etc...

Evorich guy came to do measurement for my bedrooms, he suggested to me that i should do carpentry (wardrobe) first then they can lay HERF vinyl, this prevent scratching done by carpenters and also can reduce the area needed to lay vinyl, save some $$$

however, upon checking he told me that my bedroom entrance screed is not levelled, some area 5mm, some 3mm, to my horror he told me the HERF is actually 5mm not 3mm..WTH! the sales clearly told me its 3mm & asked me to offset 5mm for adjustment... but he also said that it can be resolved with a pvc bridge over...so...i hope everything turn out nice...

so buyers of HERF beware...its 5mm thick not 3mm..and i think having offset of 7mm is a safer bet...

we chose the Amsterdam eggshell white as i think it is more close to our theme.

  6. hi, PMed

    Hi Freb,

    1) I will collect my key in 2 months time. Can u share with me how to appeal to HDB for the free cement screed?

    2) From your post, i understand that HDB contractor only provide up to 40mm of screed. If i using HERF flooring, do i need to ask them to top up?

    3) Do i start appeal now or after collected key?

Sorry for so many questions as this is my first BTO.

    Thank you in advance!

    Hi Freb,

I intend to lay homogenous tiles in my livingroom and vinyl for bedrooms.

    1) Does that mean that cement screeding is required only for the bedrooms?

    2) Could you share with me how to appeal for foc cement screeding please..

    Thanks.

  7. tiling finally completed after 2 months...i chose a ramp instead of step for the entrance...for old folks :)

    19108006255_76eeca5ca0_c.jpg

not sure its the kitchen tiles not level or my living room tiles...the gap seems uneven...goto ask tiler rectify it.

silly mistake by tiler again...the shampoo ledge is too close to the rain shower tap...i cant even install the hose or even put shampoo bottles...goto redo...again

new feature tile is definitely straighter than the old one...love it :) will be using white grout for the gaps

next up, carpentry works and false ceiling..cant wait!

  8. i am confused here. what is the different between cement screed and pre-pack sand?

The new HDB regulation is we need to use their pre-pack material?

can we appeal HDB to provide us with the pre-pack material foc?

or it is just for carpet/vinyl tile/linoleum/parquet/timber flooring?

Screed is basically a level finishing before u lay ur tiles/parquet/vinyl etc. it's a sand n cement mix. usually contractor mix cement & sand to a certain ratio (1:3-5, w/wo aggrevates depend on the application) concrete is the one added with bigger aggrevates (small size stones)

Prepack screed only means that sand/cement already mixed properly in the pack, contractor no longer need to mix using mixer on the spot

New requirement in place to make sure the mix is even & to requirement. Will cost higher.

If u request for HDB screed they will use prepack screed. Starting next month Reno contractor goto use prepack as well for all flooring works.

HDB only give u foc screed if u laying laminate/parquet/vinyl but not tiles
