  1. Same here, varying! Totally understand your (and your wallet's) pain lol. Btw, is that an iRobot Braava box I spot in your cabinet!? Have you started using it? Review if you have please! I'm considering one too...
  2. Lol @mmoh. Me neither! Personally, I don't mind having a bomb shelter if it's placed in the right position on the floor plan. Otherwise, you may end up having to pay for customised carpentry to create that storage space. Which of course, wouldn't be a problem if there's no budget constraints haha. The advantage in that tho, is that it's prettier and exactly where you want it.
  3. @varying Whoa! Your wardrobe hanger bar like boutique style! Haha, pretty cool! But enough hanging space?
  4. @2Roomer Yeah! Do you follow their channel? Do they really only have that Ikea Stolmen pole system as their wardrobe? Seems a bit small for the both of them combined. But it doesn't look like their MBR has much room for anything else...
  5. @2Roomer Thanks for the video links! I spent 30 mins watching the 2nd one when I should be getting ready for work lol. (Now I'm late going in, hahaha.) Can't resist home tours. @mmoh Hmm... Not sure if there's a standard width for wardrobe. Wouldn't this be up to individual needs? I did learn from my own reno experience that standard depth for kitchen cabinets is 60cm and anything beyond that is additional cost too. Booo.
  6. Very nice, varying! Curious... Why a 38cm deep wardrobe? Also, I don't recall seeing a wall between your front door and TV console previously - thought can see straight from front door to living room window (or am I wrong...) - dya have a partition wall build? Oh, hang on... Upon closer look, is that a full height cabinet you have there?
  7. Hmm... Maybe it's a BTO thing... Wait for input from the others who got BTOs. When I bought mine, I was actually eligible for a 10k grant from HDB which I didn't take up cuz I'd have to pay it back when I sell my current place and wouldn't be eligible for anymore HDB grants should I get a new place in the future.
  8. Yep. For BTO, the 5 years starts from your key collection date. For resale, it's from your 2nd appointment date (when the sellers hand over the keys) or if you have agreed to an extension, then from the date the extension ends... How come need to pay extra 15k? (o_O) Not government give you extra 15k grant?
  9. From what I understood from the HDB officer at my 2nd appointment (last December), I can apply for a new flat now. As long as the TOP date for that new flat is 5 years after my key collection date.
  10. Thanks for checking mmoh! But wow, that would mean that the earliest a single can own a new flat is when they're 37/38 cuz it would take 3 years at least to build? Whereas in terms of MOP, you can apply for another flat within the first 5 years as long as you've fulfilled it by the time your new flat arrives...
  11. Hey guys, this question popped into my head all of a sudden... Just out of curiosity - do singles need to be 35 when they send in an application for ballot? Or when they select their flat? Or when they get their keys?
  12. Woohoo~ Congrats BunniBoi! How exciting. Which area is your future place in?
  13. @2Roomer I didn't even know there'll be free transport on National Day! Does that include cabs? Lol.
  14. Thanks! The bathroom is my favorite part of my house at the moment hahaha. For the kitchen - there's glass at the cutout wall, as well as sliding glass doors on the left. Had to seal up the kitchen completely cuz it's off-limits for my cat.
  15. Folks, check this place out: http://www.housebeautiful.com/design-inspiration/house-tours/a4028/hidden-rooms-apartment/ So cool!
  16. Yeah, and give yourself time to adjust either your expectations or budget accordingly haha!
  17. Yeah, year end is usually peak period for reno cuz everyone is rushing to complete and move in before CNY. Plus the subcons (usually Malaysians) will stop work about 2-3 weeks before CNY. But you can still lock down on which contractor/ID to go with so they can plan your reno schedule and their resources. Just have to let them know your preferred start date...?
  18. Initially wanted concrete screed for my kitchen floor too but according to my ID, concrete will also crack over time... Not sure how long that would take tho. I second that - It's definitely a personal preference! I too had the IKEA loft bed, but only for about 6 years. While I loved the space-saving concept behind it, I only lasted the climbing about 2 or less lol. I ended up sleeping on a makeshift mattress on the floor with my cat and using the loft bed above for storage the rest of the time. (And a timeout zone for my cat when she misbehaved - too high and no good way for her to climb down hahaha) I experienced the exact same issues - not a lot of space overhead (although I could sit up properly - I must be shorter than you lol), no good place for TV, tired of climbing etc. Which was why I changed to a regular super single bed eventually. And surprisingly, with the removal of the loft bed, my room actually felt a whole lot bigger. A great pat on the back for the amount of homework you've done!
  19. I find the half-open bit quite useful personally cuz I would have been able to leave the bathroom doors that way for my cat to reach her litter box in the toilet rather than having it wide open. But yeah, that difference is not significant for me either.
  20. I think when fully open, they both take up a similar amount of space...? But PD doors can push in (half-open) and that's when there's less obstruction since it stays on the track.
  21. PD doors are quite nice and space saving. I was debating between that and bifold when I was looking for a replacement for my bathroom doors. I didn't find a design I liked tho, which was how I ended up with bifold. The sliding half does get a bit stuck after a few years of use but everything and anything will break from regular wear and tear, I suppose. If I remember correctly, varying has PD doors over at her place!
  22. Man cave! But not bad... Just need to make sure there's enough lighting around the house as dark colours tend to absorb light and generally make a space seem smaller.
  23. The beauty of wide-angle lenses haha. The professionally-taken ID photos always uses this trick. Have to agree with you, I'm afraid... The sliding doors needs to go - I think it'll look and feel much bigger if it was wide open space. Thanks for the helpful videos btw!
