  1. Thanks all for your support, especially Cantona7 and zirhk3355. thanks zirhk3355 for offering the help.. i'll definately contact u if i need ur help as what Cantona7 said, our life is pretty much affected by this incident... and of course.. we are not going to pay that 3.8k at all cost.. should i make a police report?? haha... but i don't think police can do anything about it either. we are searching for ID now... hope we can get a good one soon.. like that ah?? i'm pretty sure that the contractor won't agree to this. coz he has 4 other company under his name / brother's name... don't think he will give to other contractor/ID.
  2. well, we did discussed this with the contractor before.. and got a negative reply we requested to only do the toilet, but he pointed out that we have to either pay the cancelation fee for other item or sign another contract wth them that we will not engage another contractor to do those items guess i'm dealing with a barbarian in a civilized city
  3. Thanks Cantona7 got call from CASE today.... but was not a good news. The contractor said that if we are not confortable with his current company, we can choose his other 4 company which are not suspended by HDB to do the reno. If i don't want to do that, then they will hire a lawyer and settle this in court. i even asked the opinion of CASE. and she told me that it's better to choose other company under him since we have paid the deposit anyway, rather than go to court and waste time and money... but the thing is... the contractor was not honest to me in the first place, and that is why i'm cancelling the contract! why should i choose other company under him? anyway.... does anyone know how much does it cost to hire a lawyer for this kind of case?
  4. hi Disillusioned, Thanks for the advice... Really hope that this will be resolved soon and get back the deposit
  5. CASE can't do anything about the contract, they only act as a middle man. so will have to depend on the contractor. but since they have intention on bringing this matter to court.... this will take a long time... Thanks oonik grl
  6. i have filed this with CASE... and also approached the ID and talked to the director. as expected, they are not giving me back the deposit and said that their lawyer give me a letter.. oh well... just wait and see lor... see how they are going to twist the fact.. now we have to go through all the trouble and look for new ID... hope we can get a good one this time
  7. well, actually the 30% is when we cancel the contract before they start work... if they start the work already.. then we have to pay full amount.. we were foolish enough that we didn't look at the contract before we sign it and of course they didn't even care to explain about it. guess what, when i called and asked why they diddn't explain the clause and details, they simply answer...it's your own fault for not reading it.
  8. this is the email reply i got from HDB. -------------- 2 As explained that the renovation registration of ******* ****** and Contract Centre has been suspended by HDB, the company is not allowed to apply for HDB renovation permit and carry out any renovation works in HDB flats. For the contract signed between you and the contractor, we would advise both parties to resolve the issue amicably. If you and the contractor are unable to resolve the issue amicably, both parties could seek assistance through the Small Claims Tribunals or seek legal redress through court proceedings. 3 You are advised to engage HDB Registered Renovation Contractors listed in HDB InfoWEB (at www.hdb.gov.sg) with status "Active" for the renovation works. You may wish to note that HDB Registered Renovation Contractors are not allowed to sub-contract the works from non registered renovation contractors or assignment of their renovation registration. ------------- so basically we have to deal with the contractor ourself.. but at least i have a black in white and can show this ti CASE..
  9. that's quite true... just afraid that this guy will use that contract and sue me and demand 30%.. so in the end will have to pay more if i lose. i know i'm being pessimistic. but after reading so many horror story in this forum... it's hard not to think this way
  10. thanks all for the reply.. i'm not sure if i can post the ID here.. all i can say that it's somewhere near ikea in alexandra road.. after reading some of the thread in this forum i found out that this company is quite famous for being a bully... i paid the deposit for $1000 i have thought of forgoing the 1000, but they insisted me to pay 30% if i cancel the contract. also thingking of going to CASE but afraid that they will bite back
  11. hi.. i've recently engaged a contractor to reno my 4room HDB and already signed the contract. but later found out that the license of this contractor has been suspended by HDB. i tried to talk to the contractor, but he insisted on continuing the renovation and said that he will use other company's license to request for the permit. and if i were to cancel the contract, then i'll have to pay 30% of the total renovation cost eventhough the actual renovation work has not started. even the drawing is not started yet. my question is: 1. is this contractor allowed to continue renovation? legally? 2. is he allowed to use sister company to apply for license? please give me some advice.. i don't want to continue working with this kind of contractor and definately don't want to pay 30% if possible i want to get back my deposit ! cheers..
