  3. Hi

Wanted to ask how is the kompacplus countertop now that you have used it for some time and likely to have more accurate review for it. Any reviews is greatly appreciated as I am torn with deciding between it and quartz. Not sure if it is as waterproof, heat resistant, scratch proof as it claims to be and there are not much review online from users who have used it for some time.

Thank you very much in advance.

  7. Carpenter finally came yesterday evening to fix our hood issue. Now it looks much better / acceptable! No more big ugly holes around the hood...

This is what they did inside to pump out the air on top & keep the cabinets from getting greasy...

Also, our Amazon loots has arrived!

I had them sent to my parents' place though...so haven't get to see the items.

sorry ah.. am a noob to hood as my current house do not have one. You were saying pump out the air to escape.. what air? Steam? Or the smoke?

  8. Hi Phangck,

When was your appeal approved? I just got rejected for the appeal.

update: Those whose flat application date, listed in the HDB website, that is after sept 2014 can forget about appealing. Thats what I got from HDB. Now having a big headache on the extra amount needed for the floor work..

    Hi Joajas

Does that mean i can appeal to HDB since i balloted for my flat in 2012 even though i can only get my keys in 2016? Cos since at that time decision was made when the cement screed rule wasn't in place.

Btw, i have opted out of the HDB tiles.. but i still can appeal right? If successful, they will do the screeding for us?

  9. Hi there! The more expensive fan was $699, the other one was $499 (another $150 if opt in LED light). Tested both fans, wind quality was good; strong yet not-in-your-face kind of strong, if you know what i mean. lol. No audible noises. And they come with the "air circulation mode" where the blades will turn in the reverse direction. This is useful when the air conditioner is switched on; when the air circulation is good, the room cools down faster and hence reduces the stress on the aircon. My GF is particularly sensitive to ceiling fans, they make her eyelids heavy :lol::lol: , but these two models were ok for her :sport-smiley-004: Can pm Phylux on FB for their latest prices. Can look for Keven if you visit their showroom in Paya Lebar, nice guy who served us.

As for the mattress, it was $1300 iirc for a queen sized one! After factoring in the discounts. Comes with pillows and bolster.

heh heh we love the floor tiles too! hope they turn out good!

Hi! The brand of the fan is phylux or aero or something else? LOL. I am confused now. If possible, can give me the brand and model? Tks much!

  10. Hi

How much did you pay for both your ceiling fans? They look good. Was the wind strong and was it noisy when you tested it?

Also how much did the cellini mattress? I also have a lousy back and tried out the pagasus(i think spelling might be wrong) range at a furniture shop (but i forgot the brand of the mattress), also quite comfy, and i remember the price was pretty reasonable.

p/s: i love ur greyish floor tiles.

  11. My friend bought their sofa & dining set from Commune for their new place. Looks good! Never hear any complain from my friend...so should be okay haha. Saw in fb that they just open a new outlet at IMM. Ya i saw the HN's furniture section at millenia walk too. But didn't really take a good look the last time i went. Maybe should check them out again :)

Have you heard of Star Living? They have a huge showroom at Labrador Park MRT. The last time i went (last year), i remember they have a lottttt of dining sets. I might be checking them out too before making any decision :D

Yes. The quality from Commune like not bad. And looks atas..LOL.

Yes. I heard of Star Living, but never visited them before. Let me know how was it if you do go down.

Some of my friends bought the replicas from Taobao (but there can be hits and misses). Personally I like to be able to touch touch, knock knock, press press, test test the quality for furnitures and do my butt test on sofas.

  12. Hi guys!

Anyone buy from Castlery before? Any reviews?

Been browsing their website and shortlisted their sofa & dining table set ... but haven't go down to their warehouse to take a look at actual products.

I also wish to know. The designs look pretty good from there. Anyone bought furniture from hipvan before too? Pics look nice. Qlty & Service unknown.

Oh Yakult, i went to millenia walk some time back. Commune Living furniture looks good. Also went in to the Harvey Norman there. Apparently, there is a furniture section inside Harvey Norman too. The price of the Dining set appears to be quite reasonable (well the models that i was interested in)

  13. Hi

I realised that the floor tiling was paused before installing the false ceiling. If that's the case, through the renovation experience you went thru, can you advise if the following sequence be better?

    1. Hacking

    2. Aircon, electrical, piping, trunking, false ceiling, ceiling works?

    3. Wet works? Cement screed, Flooring etc

    4. Carpentry, including kitchen

    5. Painting?

    Did i miss out anything?

  14. That is only if you are overlaying with vinyl or other flooring type beside tiles. If you are hacking away the original tiles or flooring type, you need to screed before you can place the new homogenous tiles.

Your house is a new bto, so if you have orginally opt in for hdb screeding, you can just lay your tiles. :)

I opt out of tiles and doors. How to tell if that means opt out of hdb screeding or not? :dunno:

  15. HAHAHA i think our hubby have no choice but to give us more space? As my WIW is not very big...i foresee I will occupy 2/3 of the space :P Last time we also thought of getting a king size bed. But after taking a look at the home gallery at TPY HDB hub...we gave up the idea and went for queen size instead... cos really quite tight ><

My MBR bathroom basin have something like the anti-drip edge! Actually I didn't know it's for anti-drip...i thought it was just part of the design hahaha. I think doing it for kitchen will be very ex uh? Since have to custom-made...

Oh my living room is using homogeneous tiles so no need to screed. PM-ed you! :)

Thanks a lot! Homogeneous tiles no need to screed?

  16. Ha! Finally found your blog. Had a hard time visualising what you mean on Yakult's t-blog.

Your wardrobe is 2 sided? Cool.

I think i will have mine in an L-Shaped against the wall instead (but i have a problem cos one side of the wall there is a single window, which in my opinion is a lousy design cos it is not an aircon ledge or anything. For me to escape??).. so maybe i will follow someone's else idea to cut a hole inside the cupboard at the window there.. so i will have a Narnia Wardrobe.except if you step out, you gg fall off as I am on high level)

Alternatively, if there is enough width space, i might go with wardrobe in the wall in front of the bed.

  17. I think the additional cost of screed depends on which ID/contractor you engaged. For mine, if i get my current ID to screed the 3 bedrooms, it will be additional $1k...which i find it's acceptable. The other ID which we had terminated charged us a whooping S$4k just for screeding 3 bedrooms (exclude tiles)! :~ Reason he gave: prepacked cement more expensive & difficult to lay...hence labor cost increase. As much as I do understand this is something HDB required and there is no way ID firms can ignore...i think $4k is a bit too much. So be careful of the prices quoted to you for screeding if you are still looking for IDs... to make sure you don't get "tok".

Yup we're hacking a small part of the kitchen wall (2ft) to expand the area for Dry Kitchen. We will be putting glass panels too! It will be the separation between Dry & Wet Kitchen :)

Nope not hacking 1 of the rooms. Was back & forth on this because i want a WIW... but also scared it will be very squeezy if i put it inside MBR. But i want the other 2 rooms to be kept empty for Study & Guest room later (my family stay in the west...so would be loved to have them stayover once in awhile). See the measuring tape? I asked my ID to tape the exact dimension on the floor for me to see / step into...so i can determine is the space okay - both at sleeping area & inside WIW. For mine, it seems good! Won't have huge space at sleeping area but still enough to put 2 bedside tables. :good:

Only need screed for bedrooms? Living room no need?? Wah 4k and 1k difference is really too much. (If you don't mind, can pm me your contract cost breakdown? was thinking mine is going be same size as yours, it will be a good guide so i don't kena "tok")

Very smart and really a good idea to tape the dimension! I will get my future ID to do so next time. But i don't think i have enough space for a WIW cos i was considering of squeezing a King size bed in.. so one of the things got to sacrifice! LOL... so i am gg to have to sacrifice----> my HTB's share of wardrobe space :notti: (instead of giving him 2 door worth of space i give him 1? :bleah: )

Oh ya i saw this on one of the blog i read and i thought it would be good idea for the kitchen counter top or bathroom sink cabinet- anti drip edge. Cos the cabinets always got wet at my parents' hse if we happen to spill water and not wipe it fast enough. At least i think less likely to get the cabinets wet.

  18. Took some pics of my empty house today! :)

Yay!! I saw!! Thanks! see already also excited! LOL. :sport-smiley-004:

Can see you have many ideas similar to what i have in mind!!!

U also opt out of HDB tiles.. Me too.. Is the additional cost of screed expensive? I think HDB should just have the policy take effect from the date of purchase mah..haiz.

U hacking the wall between the dining and kitchen? I also thinking of doing so to allow light to go in. But I wld put a glass panel.

Realise the width living room not very big hor..mine is 5750 by 5675.. so will be shorter than urs.

Are you hacking one of the rooms? Or just building a Lshaped wardrobe in MBR? I was afraid of squeezy...

  19. Hi djnt! I totally know how you feel... waiting for HDB to update all day everyday...until neck long long! hahaha. For the past 3 months, I was checking HDB website all the time to see was there any update. Yours is a bigger project I supposed? Ours only 3 blocks of 16 floors that's why i think it's faster. I guess should be soon for you le since your neighbors are getting keys end of the year? Jiayou jiayou!

Sorry I didn't take any photo of my empty house as we were busy checking for defects right after keys collection. hahaha. I will try to take some reno photos along the way so hopefully you can have a glimpse of it :)

Ya loh... my neck very sore cos everyday stretch long long, esp since all my friends said they got their keys usually 3-6mths before PCD... LOL. Mine is a slightly bigger at 10 blks of 14-19 storeys in height.

Can't wait to see your reno pics :) and wish you a smooth and uneventful reno process!

  20. Wah... so envy you. Your hse is so fast. Mine was a May 2012 BTO and PCD is 2Q 2016. Some of the residents from my BTO getting their keys end of the yr.. but mine still remain as Q2 2016 :curse: . No chance of having my home ready for my wedding.

Anyway my 5 room layout looks exactly like yours!!! Diff is the size of each room..some of urs is bigger..some is mine.

Do you have any pics of the empty house? .... So that I can imagine how my hse will look like in the future ;) . *waiting and waiting for HDB* :~

  21. the kitchen sink i got comes with everything (drainage). toilet sink also full set. tap pretty much universal size, no compatibility issue as long as ur plumber knows how to connect everything, china n sg use same half inch hose, my bidet set also no problem. my kitchen faucet is from amazon, its mounted outside the sink.

oic. Cos i saw some from Taobao that have the drainage etc (all in chinese and i have absolutely no idea what they referring to) .Thanks a lot! Now i know i have to get the full set to be on the safe side since the size is the same.
