  1. I have been reading posts on this forums for quite a while and dreading actually moving onto the renovation process – what with all the stories and nightmarish instances of dealing with IDs, contractors, and all the minions in between. Had contemplated 7 to 9 different IDs but narrowed down to these two: 1. R&R (quite a famous and well known one here, near Eunos) - Good initial service - Friendly and accommodating - Comprehensive planning and quote was reasonable - Sketchy reviews online (A number of pros and cons depending on the ID assigned to you) 2. Cosy Living (a small set-up in Bukit Panjang) - Not too many reviews online (wary of this initially) - Quote was a little above my budget - Friendly and accommodating - Has an aura of ‘dependability’ My place is a 95 sq m set-up in Bukit Batok – a 10 year old resale condo. Had budgeted 30k for reworking the toilets, tiling for the kitchen/service yard and a feature wall and display cabinet for the living room. We had approached him in the first week of April with the handover on 18 May (which it was done on time – with hardly any defects, none actually). We (my fiancée and I) chose Cosy Living because of the following factors: 1) The ID from R&R (a youngish girl) – was overheard passing some comment to her colleague about my fiancée (trying to be humorous) – so bit suspect on professionalism. 2) Didn’t quite like the ambience at R&R – felt they were chasing profits too much. 3) We were assigned Jason from CL (he was in the shop when we came in and took consultation with us). 4) Felt that he knew his stuff – was experienced and had contacts (the fact that it was his brother doing the carpentry work and not totally outsourced was reassuring). 5) Quotation received was reasonable and fair. Our personalities: 1. I am in the clinic tending to patients or giving talks sometimes so it’s quite difficult to be attending to things at the renovation and so is my fiancée. I prefer to give slightly more autonomy to my ID. 2. Jason is quite ‘on-the-ball’ – extremely responsive to messages at all times of the day, suggesting improvements, reminding me of certain limitations that I had not been aware of myself and never once gave me the impression that he was ‘smoking his way’ through. 3. Punctual (for every meeting) and polite – I think I was mostly impressed with his professionalism – he was proud of his work and had a high degree of pride in how things turn out. He thinks ahead and puts the customer’s needs first. 4. Very upfront and transparent – no hidden costs or ‘sleight-of-hand’ with the VO – everything was above board. Throughout the process: - Frequent updates with photographs. - Workers were reliable, polite, punctual and clean. - Jason just takes the very definition of ‘dependability’ one level higher. - He is always available for a consult/advice/recommendation on messaging (all times of the day – until I felt embarrassed). - Even though the renovations works was a small amount – he took care/time to facilitate every stage and updates regularly. - Carpentry is solid and **** well done – no complaints at all about the painting/worksmanship and scheduling. I know this is not an exhaustive detailing of the experience but all I can say is this: I dreaded the renovation portion – especially after reading most of the forums for years (as I am sure many of you have done). This experience has really been a positive, easy-going and happy occasion in the stage of redecorating my home and I am grateful to Jason for making the experience a really pleasant one. Am going to stick with him for further renovations. Even right now – I am contacting him about a problem I have with a new washing machine and some piping and he is STILL responding to my messages as punctually as ever (even paying a visit to my house just to see what the problem is) – even though handover was last week. My email is at isniss@gmail.com if you have any queries - Jason can be reached at jason@cosyliving.com.sg (not so sure if I should post his number - but just drop me a msg if you want his contact) Cheers, Isaac Isa (Dr)
