  2. Upgraded from SHS-5120 to a fingerprint SHS-5230 :sport-smiley-004: (kids more happy though I like RFID card more).

Moved the old SHS-5120 to a rental unit (tenant very happy).

    All happy. :drunk:

  3. Hmm...tempting to get a digital lock, which 1 better? Keyman or samsung?

Would prefer keep my existing lock too, digital lock is juz for additional security.. Isit possible?

I would say it is primarily for convenience but there are security benefits...

Convenience example: I go cycling, jogging nowadays without key(s) jiggling in my pockets - and my RFID card allows access faster and fits into my wallet

Security example: how many times have I (or my kids) left the key stucked to the door after entering the home; this does not happen anymore!

... and of course, the fact that the key is electronic pin - you can change it as often as needed (and not change the lock when you loose a physical key.

To keep your existing physical lock, use the RIM type lock instead of the mortise lock (eg. Gateman F10 instead of F100) or the equivalent Samsung ones.

As for Samsung versus Gateman, I use both and my conclusion is it is all about the looks.

  4. After reading the threads in renotalk, I assumed that there are no problems or issues with products of Interlock. If there is, I hope users could feedback in the thread. Thanks.

My SHS-5120 is 1.5 years old - and there is NO issue. I guess the competition has an issue (but that's good for prices eh? :good: ).

I would love to have an issue as an excuse ... :sport-smiley-004: to upgrade ..

    to

Gateman F100 - or the relatively newer model SHS 5230 model.

    this gateman-f100.jpgor samsung-shs-5230.jpg

    ... or both?

  5. My Samsung SHS-5120 (which should be the same as yours as I don't think there is a 5200) is working perfectly for the last 1+ year - and still does.

I suggest contacting the vendor again - I don't think forumers here fix digital door locks - but the only time I hear interesting sound is when the door is ajar (as a reminder to close) - or when the battery is low (as a reminder to replace the batteries). So yours does not sound right if it beeps whole day.

    Call the vendor.

  6. Read for fun - but this is all too complicated; what matters is what matters (what a wise statement on my Saturday weekend!)

Price and utility matters (for an 'appliance').

We are all working adults with better things to do than to pay more than necessary (maybe iPhone may be an exception! but that's besides the point, and on 2nd thought, savings here may help fund the iPhone!).

Digital door locks are fun and practical. Just get it. You only think and worry when the prices are astronomical - but it shouldn't be for an 'appliance'.

  7. This is a 20 yo house so I think I can only check with the previous owner. I understand that the leakage started when the contractor changed the water tank which is next to my unit some time last year or this year. The funny thing is that the water tank is located at a higher level than the seepage area which I noticed. Just had a chat with the seller's agent and was informed that the seepage issue was remedied but I am not so sure as I still smell dampness and paint peeling off in the storeroom where that particular wall is next to the water tank.

Anyway, I am getting the previous owner to assist on this matter to talk to the MC to get the contractor to remedy before I take over officially in a month time.

But being an engineer myself, I am quite keen to learn how to repair water seepage. I always see repairer using PU grouting approach which I think is a lousy method as it only solves the problem temporarily by pushing the water to another area of least resistance path via capilliary actions (I used this method to chassis stiffening for my car as well :P ).

I had also done some google search on this topic and to understand what I can do to stop this problem permanently. Therefore, any constructive comments are welcome.

    cheers

    WD

I applied xypex to my master bathroom ceiling. Might want to google that.

  8. Hi Atlantis,

how's the Xypex results so far? Is it still holding up? Any new complains?

Appreciate if u can share cos i am facing a similar problem now and also considering Xypex. Thanks.

    There is no leakage since.

However, I am not sure if this is all due to Xypex, as I also also asked a self employed plumber to apply some white cement around the floor-tile-meets-gulley area (original cement diagnosed to be porous). This was before the xypex application (long story I won't go into it). So, I can only say 100% no problem now (but could be a combination of the above two).

  9. Hi atlantis2267,

I am finalising the reno of my new place. Am contemplating getting a digital lock with card access & emergency key.

Which brand would you recommend? Samsung, Gateman or?

Lastly, how is the installation like?

Appreciate your advice. Thanks in advance buddy!

Samsung 5120 for the price (I'm using one) and one should not pay sky high for a digital lock - unless you think it is more than a lock :o

  10. I was thinking of installing Gateman F100 or V20 on my HDB main door.

Problem is during rainy days, rain will comes in and cause my front gate and main door area to be very wet.

Is Gateman F100 or V20 suitable in such condition ?

My first choice will be V20.

For my HDB front gate, I will not be able to install F100 or V20 because someone will be able to unlock from inside if he

can put his hand from outside through the gate opening Correct ?

Am I able to check on access info from these lock system if i need to check time of entry or leaving ?

    Thanks in advance.

No point installing on the metal gate.

As for rain showering on the lock -- don't really know - best check with the vendor. It did cross my mind that given the V20 is a rim lock .. you can install higher it that helps, ... and since it is RFID (contactless), you can 'laminate it' (just a crazy idea).

  11. Intending to use it on my gate and main door....

Someone asked some time ago on installing on the gate (metal gate?)... and I always wondered why.

Why - if I may ask?

If you use the gate for security purpose, I had this crazy idea (no one did it yet) --- install two digital locks on the door! Be the first Singaporean to do it.......

  12. imagine carrying all groceries and then you have to fiddle to get your front gate unlocked...... :(

Imagine the groceries and a pressing need to go to the ........ :) ... it happens all the time!

So the question is which is faster: fingerprint, pin or RFID ?

  13. any pictures of V20? im looking for a digital lock also. cant find it on d web. F100 looks sleek

A small V20 picture; took some photos when I bought for my relatives in M'sia but still in my digicam if you really want to SEE what you can't see in the small one -- lol.

  14. Hi

I have similar problem that my master bedroom toilet ceiling leaks at the part above the toilet bowl. Infd HDB alr but n'bour quite hostile and seems unwilling to compromise and resolve together.

You mentioned abt XYPEX treatment on the ceiling, what's that? Is that the solution you chose? What's the cost involve?

    Hope you can advise.

    Thanks

    ziyter

Local vendor I used: www.jmpl.com.sg. You can read more there. I suggest you call them in to do a survey and also to address your questions - which I did to also get a sense of the company's professionalism.

Pricing: as a gauge for my (below) neighbour's HDB masterbedroom toilet ceiling area size, about $700. Price may have change - so contact them.

As mentioned above, I used this because I cannot afford (both $, effort, time) to hack down my renovated bathroom. It took them 1 day to grind off the ceiling surface (so yes, can be dusty and dirty there), wash and paint xypex, then clean up. They came back to paint the ceiling on another day.

What was HDB's assessment? Why just around the toilet bowl area?

  15. Guys, just do it! If you need it! Otherwise, can wait forever :D

I am ordering two Gateman V20 for my cousin in KL. No hassle RIM lock (just install on top).

    Gateman V20

Just cut down one big dinner outside every month for the convenience of a digital door lock.

Will take pictures before I drive up to KL.

    Woot!

  16. Hi, i am interested in buying the Samsung 5120..

Can any kind souls advice on the cost and how to go about buying and installing it..

I saw 5120 selling on ebay and it ranges around 300 to 400 SGD

I have the SHS-5120 installed at my home :D.

Got it from the vendor (Interlock/Desmond); you should be able to find his lock+installation+package on eBAY. Got the lobang here many months ago .... made it so affordable.

Tip -- consider the Gateman V20 (which is a RIM lock) if your are still deciding - I thought that should be the best-value 'lifestyle upgrade' to your life ... eh-hem -- I mean your door. :yamseng:
