  1. Hi Air, big one is heavy, what about smaller ones? If u dont bring it down, u need to climb up and clean strand by strand, wouldn't it be more tiring? Will neck break? I am not sure bec this is first time i am shopping for chandelier. I think maybe yours has got some kind of glass component that holds the candle. Otherwise, i thought crysals won't shatter even if dropped, only glass will. As for the spray, if it is available, u all dare to use? U don't know what chemical it contains such that the dust will fall off.
  2. Hi, I am now shopping for a chandelier, and I think it would be easier to clean if i can bring down the whole thing, so i asked the shops about is it easy to do so, and they told me that it is very easy to bring it down. I am not sure if this is true or if this is sales talk. Did you ask the shop about this? About the spray, the salesmen did not tell me about this. Have you been "sales-talked"? I don't trust if there is such a spray, it can do a good job, but if it does, please let me know.
  3. Thanks Yong Sheng, I might have popped into your shop last weekend unknowingly. I was at balestier, and i went to i think at least 6 shops. I heard those at balestier are more commercial. I went to Jalan Besar a few days ago, they taught me quite a fair bit, now i know what is E27, gu10, e14, lumens, watts, lm/w, all these technical technical terms. Soon i can become salesman. But i did not buy anything from them, so paisay. Now i know what is track lighting u are talking about. Shops has more range and variety than Ikea. But ikea has one thing that i did not see at shops, synthetic crystal lamp.
  4. I see. Powder room. I think perhaps your face looks very nice, looks like you make up a lot, unlike my walls, mor peng, see also headache. I think i can visualise. Yours is something like hotel, shower area enclosed, the rest of the toilet will be dryer. What about the part when the tiles end and bare wall begin? Can they make it to look nice? Mine very ugly, it could be done by hdb many years ago.
  5. Hi Phoenix, Mine is also like this, tile halfway, and the part where the tile ends and where bare wall begins is very ugly, ie. the joint. Mine is mid floor, blocked behind, but block or unblock will not impact on toilet. Will wind come into toilet? Mine confirm will not. Not every 3 room purchase is a sad story. But mine happens to be sad story. Once i am better off, i will chao. Back then is when? Back then 10k can do the whole house, now cannot, i think recently their prices go up a little, bec a lot of people move house and reno, sand price also went up. Hi Rummi, u already tile 75%, u might as well tile all the way
  6. Phoenix, Is it? Everything on magazine sure look nice. I vaguely remember some hotels also don't have tiles. I will try to think of an opportunity to visit hotel to see. WaiLeong : I am only in my 30s. But the 3 room flat i just purchased has many of the things u said. Squat toilet, "mor-peng" walls, toilet half tile up half bare. Very sad hor? I hope to keep my reno budget under 12k.
  7. Hi Snowhusky, Thanks! Can you describe track lighting? I guess you are referring to those circular metal that supports 4 or 5 lights. Ikea sells one like this, can even bend it to become oval or odd shape. I can surround the chandelier with it, but when I enquired from the salesman, I was told that it allows only halogen. Have u seen one that allows energy saving bulb? Where to find it? Can u elaborate more, why megaman not philips or osram? Sorry for my ignorance
  8. Is that a condo? Condo structural quality & older HDB is different. Condo worth hundreds of thousands, & owners usually spend money to maintain. But older HDB.....condition is so terok, better don't elaborate, tears can drop. I also forsee problems with contractor. They sure tell me cannot be done bec they will earn more from wall tiling than plastering.
  9. U ever see people do like this before? Or u know of anyone who done this? I kia see, need to follow precedent.
  10. U used tornado before? I never used tornado before. My existing house lights are mostly circular. When u say 12w bright enough, are u saying "a few 12w combined" is bright enough? I peeped at some 4 room flats, i saw that they used many philips bulb hidden inside false ceiling, at least 6-8 in living room, not tornado, it is another type, long "n" shaped type. "n" shape small letter n. I see people using so many, & i use only 1 or 2, I hope is enough, anyway my living room so small. Or is it that they are too kiasu. If your experience is 12 w is bright enough, i think if i put 2 in the middle of the room, exposed, just next to the chandelier, 20w each, should be more than enough.
  11. Mine, some squared tiles totally came off, the whole square is missing. If I buy the putty to patch up the missing squares, it will not level. Plus, i don't know if anymore squares will pop up in the near future. So if i patch up and then paint, if more squares pop out......then how? Better to hack away everything, then level it with plastering. If can diy, i also want to diy, but i don't have the technical skills. If i plaster and paint over, confirm paint sure can adhere, just like your living room. But question is adhere for how long, in view that u will splash water on it everyday when showering.
  12. Hi Mace Precisely! I was also wondering about this. We don't see buildings exterior's paint coming off that often. Weathershield paint is meant for rain & shine, isn't it? Maybe one day, i free free, call Nippon Paint to ask. Sounds doable theoretically. I'm sure some budget budget people must have done this before. For me, as long as it last one year, it is ok. I can repaint. I ever ask contractor about this. He said cannot. But contractors words cannot trust 100%. Example, they say cannot paint kitchen cabinet laminates, must discard the whole kitchen cabinet & remake. I went to find out, can be painted, but must sand paper it, & apply something before paint. If they tell the truth, they will earn less. What they did not tell me is that doors & drawers also can change. Thanks Apple, I heard about Epoxy. Precondition for epoxy : tiles must be ok condition. Mine : some come off, some crack, some the material in between tiles came off, plus, not all the way to top. Like this how to epoxy? I saw epoxy at exhibition, it really look like as though u changed new tiles, but not cheap, floor : $5 psf, same price as overlay. They agreed. They said u save on hacking and haulage only.
  13. Yeah, tornado bulbs are ugly if exposed, looks like coffee shop toilet. Oops, if i instal exposed tornado bulbs, will my living hall look like toilet? Hahahaha. No choice. If i use covers, i am afraid brightness compromised, plus bulky too. I want looks & practicality too, I want both 40w circular & crystal lights, but cannot, that is the frustration, one has to go. So now i am considering having the crystal lights & 2 tornado. I think 2 tornado should be equivalent to 1 40w circular (i think). I hope 2 exposed tornado is bright enough for the living room. If it is corner, i no need stand lamps, bec corner of cornice should thick enough to squeeze one tornado. Maybe stick out a little bit, no choice. It is the centre part of the living room that I don't know how to deliver the lights. That kind of lamps that u are talking about looks like ambience ambience type. But i am not at the ceiling, hahah, so better to project the lights to the sofa.
  14. I want to to do this, but looks like nobody did it before, so I dare not try, i scared disastererous. Vaguely, I don't remember seeing wall tiles in hotel rooms, or do they have it? I don't think Meritus or Plaza by Park has it. Does anyone knows or noticed? Of course budget hotels has it. I saw on newspapers, someone advertised $2588 total for both toilets, include wall and floor, forgot to ask whether include sink and toilet bowl. When i called, he says it is for overlay, so for hack and "barlay" lay, got to top up a few hundred, so it is something like $3k total. Mine is 3I model, one for shower only, one for business only. It does costs thousands. By the way, "barlay" means repeat, not another unknown new tile laying technique. (in case u may wonder).
  15. Hi, I was wondering if anyone tried to plaster the walls of the toilet and paint it with weather shield? How long will the paint stay before it flakes? If it can last one year, I don’t mind painting it every 12 months since the area is not big and it will not be too tiring to repaint. I dislike tiles, they look nice when new, but after a few years, they look old & dirty, and sometimes crack, and sometimes the material used in between tiles came off. Worse still, if the workmanship is not good, some can pop out. If painting is possible, every year I can have a new coat that looks new, and I can change the colours, design design, and it is cheaper too, only $50 a can, compare to thousand of bucks per toilet Anybody tried this?
  16. Hi, I have some lighting problems which I don’t know what is the best way to solve. Any experienced souls here kind enough to guide me? I just got keys for my 3I hdb, excited but stressed like crazy. Stressed bec of ignorance. My living room is a pathetic 2850 X 6800, 3I old model & bec of this I want to use a chandelier or crystal lighting to enhance the aesthetics. The problem with crystal lights is that it is very warm & energy consuming, so it is not suitable for nightly use if you do not switch on aircon. So I intend to switch on the chandelier on cool nights, or weekends when friends come over, or when I feel moody. On daily use, I intend to have energy saving options that is bright. Fengshui master says ceiling must not be too messy or too much patterns or cramped, will cause stress. It’s ugly to have a 40watt circular lamp side by side with chandelier. I also don’t want to invest in false ceiling, the ceiling looks lower. There is already cornice, but the cornice is designed such that only the 4 corners allows lights. Middle of perimeter is too thin to install any lights. Question : Panasonic 40 watts extra bright circular lamp can light up a living room. But I saw some Philips tornado lights, it says 20 watts amplified to 100 watts. Does it mean that 1 or 2 Philips is bright enough for at least half the living room? If yes, I can install 2 or 3 (without casing) besides crystal lights. Philips lights is small, and can be easily “obliterated” by the ling ling long long crystals. Another alternative is to buy horizontal metal support & drill onto wall below the perimeter of cornice, & then fix 2 or 3 philips bulbs on both sides of the living room. If I do like this and tilt the bulbs to point to the centre of living room, can the 20 watts bulbs deliver lights to the middle of the hall, is it bright enough? Halogen lights look nice without any casings but Philips lights look ugly if exposed. My problem now is I need bulbs that are small like Philips, yet bright yet energy save. Help me! Immense gratitude.
