Recently I was introduced to an ID during the RenoTalk exhibition at Millenia Walk. I saw this ID with nice designs and decided to approach them for a design introduction and to take a look at our requirement for our new house.
It was going well, he show us some designs and introduce to us a Package plan that costs $11K just nice for Living room and Master Room renovation which fit to our requirements.
The ID began to ask us what is our budget, but we were skeptical as the ID might over-quote us but since we trusted him we say a budget around $20K for just Living Room Feature Wall Study table and false ceiling
Thus we exchange contacts and given them our requests, design requirements and the floor plan . We were told to go back and he will contact us 2 weeks later.
Today we went down to the ID Showroom as the ID said that he has done up the design and quotation.
To our shock, the quotation came up near to $20K, for the feature wall alone it was nearly $4.7K and we asked is there any design for this $4.7K, he told us that this is the basic design and the feature wall design was ugly. I said do you have any other designs, he said he have no designs to show .During the design walk through with only the floor plan, he kept telling us that the shoe cabinet will put glass and mirrors, etc which defeats the purpose as it is not practical and just pushing up the cost.
The study table was quoted $3K.
I said what cost $5K for the Feature wall, he said he will use glass, mirror and laminate and it cost $5K. I asked again , is there any design and he said no design.
Thus my wife and I were very angry as during the road show, the package was $11K and he said it fit our requirements but may have adjustments. I said okay but make sure the design is good.
Too my shock, today's conversations were all rubbish, he heard our budget was $20K he simply push all the prices to $20K with no material backing or design. He kept saying he will use ABS and SOLID PLYWOOD. woah what kind of SOLIDNESS is that.
So we gave him a scolding saying you just doing a 1.5multiply of the costs thats all and he just laughingly saying "No you can't say that". I told him the story, it is like I told you I have a budget $10 for this Ruler, the cost is $1 and because you know my budget you raise the sales price of this ruler to $9.50.
We were pissed and we walked away. Please do not engage this insincere ID, PM me for the name of this ID and consultant name.
