  1. Finally my wife and I could take a short breather. Tiling, overlaying, mortar base construction and other wetworks in our new flat are completed. This is an important milestone since those works constitute almost 50% of our renovation. We can now move on to the next phase. I must admit that we were quite lucky to have found this contractor company, Hoong Fatt Heng. Like some of my friends or probably a few of you here, we initially did have some reservations towards contractors. We heard stories whereby the rogue ones demanded large deposits, disappeared after collecting last payment, have poor workmanship, were missing-in-action during reno stage, gave slow response, displayed bad attitude, cut corners, etc. Thankfully (& touch wood), we did not encounter those ugly experiences with Hoong Fatt Heng. But I do want to emphasize that no matter how strong or reputable the contractor company is, it is actually the person coordinating with you that matters most. If this person messed up your reno journey (from enquiring quotation to project completion) the outcome is equally terrible. Hence, we were 2nd time lucky to have Hoong Fatt Heng’s Chin Ming (aka CM) assigned to us. Due to my busy schedule, it was my wife who discussed our requirements with him. His quotation is transparent and every works that we wanted to do were clearly itemised. No hidden cost but there is GST. Though my wife has already met CM when he surveyed our new flat, I only first met him when he invited us to his new home in Boon Keng. He wanted us to see for ourselves the workmanship of the reno works done by his company. A few days later, we decided to give our reno job to CM. The deposit was only SG$1K, which is a fraction of the total costs. 2nd partial payment was made to Hoong Fatt Heng after the tiles and materials were delivered to our flat. We also have a group chat in WhatsApp to discuss & update the reno works. The speed that CM responded to our questions and issues is remarkably fast, even after our reno works were substantially completed. He never “MIA” or kept us waiting for long, except Sunday, which he told us that is his only family day. We respect that. During the reno phase, my wife and I would occasionally visit our flat to monitor the progress. Whenever we gave feedback to CM, he took the time to hear us out and would quickly address our concerns.
