I'm trying to find out more abt using hollow blocks instead of those glass and chrome bathroom accesories.
wonder if there is any advantage using hollow blocks instead? i find that chrome and stainless steel may rust after sometime. will hollowblocks with tiled surface is easier to clean?

will it be weird using concrete support for the wet kitchen sink area if i am using solid surface kitchen top?
anybody use this combi b4?
-
Is the costs the same? ID never ask me abt this but i read some forummers here are using concrete sink.
What are the pros and cons?
my kitchen sink area will be all the way to the kitchen window wall area. now i am abit worried if it normal cabinet will corrode easily due to water and rainy days.
-
Hi MaCe, Is that your ventilation fan?? How much did you pay for the fan (model?) and the did you replace the windows or come original like dat (casement)? how come still have the cord if its using electrical switch cord?
My ID quoted me $310 for fan and fix panel, he say he will send the window to cut but window cannot open one. I wanted one like ur Pic. hee.. so he's gg to check and get back to me again.

its possible as my house is using the hood without top kitchen cabinet. they just drill n mount it to the wall.

me almost in the end stage of my reno hunt..however i am abit clueless on how i can make a good bargain out of my reno quotation. So far, i have not even started bargaining on price reduction or free items at all. Basically just removing alot of items from my initial requirements.
So far the ID has hinted that GST can be absorbed..but i was hoping for more...
If I really cant get the price reduced further , anyone can kindly help advise me what items can I try to get my ID to FOC throw in??
-
Really? Mine 17ft, $1190 leh.Thought his price is quite reasonable already. Some more I'm not very good at bargaining. Juz hope everything goes well will do.
Ya... This Ah Meng very terrible. Like that will spoil Ho Bee's reputation wor... If given a choice, I also don't wanna use him. But how to put it to Patrick?
wah.. then mine is overcharge by quite alot! extra $35pfr
must bargain this with me when we meet him..
is your kitchen layout L solid surface or just a straight line? btw, any idea wat brand of solid surface is he quoting you?
tao chew = master electrician/senior electricianthat guy's name is ah ho.
ohh so the problemetic electrician guy is ah ho or ah meng now? hehe..
probably can hint to patrick that alot of reviews on the problems with electrician not laying wires properly.. we duno how the guy look like leh.. how to know if he still engage him or nt to do ur home?
-
hi peridotitude, ya kitchen cabinet is 34ft but solid surface is 16ft not 24ft.
btw, is ho bee price subjected to GST? it state on the quote "NETT price" .. have not call him to nego and advise quote..better to meet to negotiate or call ah? normally how u all negotiate?
wah i read ah meng electrician no gd..then can request patrick not to use him or not?
-
Ya... I'm quoted $1650 (everything in lah) Thought it is kinda ex coz some quotes I gotta from other ids were much cheaper. But there might be hidden cost loh. If moz of u think that wat Ho Bee quote is quite reasonable, I think should be safe. Also pai say to neg wif him for that coz overall his quote has been really reasonable. Any comments on their painting job?I was quoted $95pfr for kitchen cabinet. How did yours come up to be 5k?
my top and bottom kitchen cabinet is $3230 , $1680 for solid surface tabletop, $180 glass backing, $180 kitchen base hee... tats why i said total 5k for kitchen cabinet. maybe actual measurement is shorter cuz my kitchen considered quite short leh..will patrick rebate back unused portion?
lxiul: I think it depends on your kitchen layout ie; one long straight line against one wall or L-Shaped, or even a U-Shape. The type of kitchen layout will vary with the measurement ma. So you'd go and measure your kitchen size then figure out what is the actual measurement stated in your quotation. You could ask Patrick about it.When you compare the prices, it may be ex for certain items but if you look at it another way, what you pay for is final and the works done is worth it compared to hidden costs and slipshod work by other people who may not do it so well. Furthermore, HDB walls are not evenly plastered or smooth enough which is why paint works will be a bit tricky. 'Cos have to paint even more to cover up patchy parts that will appear after 1st layer of paint when distributed with a roller brush. I had this problem myself and spent more time than the normal time frame just for touching up here & there(me and hubby doing DIY paintworks ourselves).. Patrick also commented that the walls are not smooth, ie; plastering problem.
Bobogirl : regarding patrick's tiler, they did the flooring for the kitchen & balcony for me. Can see the pic of the flooring in my T-blog. They did the works in less than 2 days and required minimal supervision without patrick or us around. Very efficient.
I tot shld just plaster the walls first if its not smooth before painting? hee.. thats what i always tot cuz i heard frm some ID and frens that they do plastering before... my colleague told me her wall also super lousy plastering like many round bumps on the wall.. after painting many times still very ugly then ask HDB come back to redo plastering..
oh ya! i saw ur blog! ur kitchen layout almost similar as mine hehe.. except my recess area seemed bigger. and I only have recess area below the windows and not whole wall.
did you get ho bee to do ur kitchen cabinet?
-
hee hee.. no no what i meant was the actual floorplan not the kitchen cabinet.
cuz i roughly want to noe how long is my kitchen cabinet.. it says 34ft top and bottom kitchen cabinet in laminate..
-
Ho bee very prompt with quotation! I have not really scrutinised each point. what shocked us was was the kitchen cabinet! Quoted ard 5k for works on my cabinet!!
i dun tink my kitchen is that big??? btw, how to read the figures of my flrplan? hee..what is 7000 by 2250 mean? 7000cm by 2250cm?
-
i met with patrick yday and now waiting for quote. wah! he is the choppest and most straightforward quotation for us! ard 20mins. hee..
err are all of you same as me?
we did not even go into the details of the design and wat to use for kitchen cabinet. just agar agar explain wat we want to do..
does patrick give discounts or negotiable for freebies? if not, then any other hidden costs other than the quotation if we make some changes inbtw reno?
-
oh ya hor..never tot of pvc casing on top of the wire at least still can pull out..
not sure how my bf want to do the LAN point. he says wants to terminate a point **** room to stream movies from a computer or hardisk to the TV or something and wireless maybe not stable bah..i'm quite
confused sometimes...
-
not all houses (especially those with funny structures) can use wireless - signal cant pass thru 2 layers of concrete wall.just checking.. normally do u guys lay the LAN point in the ground as in encase below the tiles and cement or on the walls with casing? wat if the LAN is faulty then how to rectify if beneath the floor tiles..?
-
kinda forgotten if i read or HDB mention free for the rooms only or the living rooms only or all? hehe..
ID say can cut some costs in our reno quote if HDB provide free.
-
ya lor ID frm courts told us also by right cannot cover..
but look at FEB issue of Home and Decor magazine page 110...
-
Hi zacky_ling,
thanks for sharing with me the rules and regulations of the HHS.
i am not intending to remove any of the round thingies but i am considering a feature wall with tic-tac doors to conceal up the HHS door and the 2 rounded thingies. I hope that does not conflict with scdf rules and regulations?

i did not realise the beam height cld be an issue.. thanks for the replies! will need to go back and measure.
wonder how the others deal with the beam..cuz i seldom see a protuding beam on pictures of living room and dining room with false ceiling. hee..
-
yah let's wait for my quote then see how hee..yes i've gotten my keys liao..
wow with such reviews abt him, i must really speak with Ho bee to get his quotation for consideratio too as he seem quite good frm alot of forumers experience. me and my bf main worry is with contractors running away with our money hee..
so sad i dun have ID fren..i tink my drawing also not so fantastic haha.. will patrick be able to construct the designs i want if i show him some picture samples? is he able to draw out?
Since patrick is not an ID, will he liaise with all the other contractors/electricians/painters for me like wat IDs do?
-
by left yes, by right NOit's an SCDF regulation, not hdb
hehe.. thanks! i believe alot of ppl by left.. wonder if SCDF will come and check?

I dun think is wise to place the fan coil in bedrooms at the proposed location. It means that the fancoil will be either above the bed or blowing directly at the bed. There will also be noise issues to consider. Aircon have moving parts, after 3 yrs.. motor noise will be louder, airflow noisier. It is preferred to place them above the door, and blowing wind at passageways rather than the middle, as far away from the bed as possible.
thanks for the advice yoongf, i did not realise it at all. now i must consider where i will be putting the beds in the room first.
btw, it's almost impossible for us to give any suggestions as there may be beams across the top which we can't see from the flr planbest to get your contractor/ID or air-con installer to advise you
hi applefreak, ya quite true beams are invisible in the flrplan and i also forgot abt it as we cant drill thru the beams.
now i have headache where to put the aircon in the living/dining area as there is a beam in the centre.
any idea if the fancoil in the dining area just outside the toilet wall is feasible?
but i dun think i will on it when i am having dinner haha.. my food will turn cold very soon.
wat abt if i place the fancoil above the balcony wall? is it allowed?
-
can I add on to ask another question? is it okie to cover up both the round round protruding thing from the HHS with feature wall?
-
I was told by an ID that the beam in the ceiling that separates my dining and living room cannot be level up with false ceiling according to HDB guidelines. and the false ceiling height must be slightly shorter than the beam. how true is this?
i was planning to just do false ceiling for my living room and hoping the beam can "disappear" with the leveling.

Kitchen Sink Using Concret Sink Or Normal Wood Cabinet?
in Plumbing & Electrical Works
Posted
hee thanks for all ur advise! i will ask my ID to do concrete base support at sink area with wooden cupboard cover up then!
