  1. Hi Kartell, welcome! I loved the area. I have been staying at this area for decades. Just shifted out last month to get married. hahaha. My folks are still there. I still visit them every week. You will love the area. Quiet, clean and pleasant...except for the slight traffic issue in the morning peak hours
  2. Hi, please PM me too. I need a part-time helper too. Once in 2 weeks is good to start with.
  3. Hi, if it's so many days still no respond, then you can call or sms him. I just spoke to his wife recently about some additional carpentary job. I was told he is quite busy this period too. So hang on there.
  4. Thank you worldangel. We spent $160 psf x 10 ft = $1600. If you want a door for the wardrobe, it will be $200 psf. Hope it helps.
  5. Hi stormcontrol, actually we also not so pantang but trust me, ppl who come to your place may comment that. And those comments can make you very uncomfortable. So we just follow the basic lor. hehehe. Do post some pics if available eh?
  6. hahaha stormcontrol. thank you so much but my kitchen is miserably small. It gave us the most headache in the planning stage. Imagine a small box with water and gas pipes OPPOSITE each other. A wide window on another end and plenty of LARGE ugly pipes exposing. We went through several sleepless night trying to:- 1. Fit everything in (including the cooker, washer, fridge, dryer, etc) 2. Conceal ugly pipings 3. Ensure the water and gas point are not opposite each other In the end, we still have some space for a breakfast Bar Top. hehehehe. Glad that it's all over now but there are some areas which I thought I could do better still Hey, your place is in the midst right? You can still create a drooling nice kitchen mah
  7. Nice kitchen. You should replaced the tiles with glass back splash or stainless steel to complete the look. It will make the whole kitchen more glamourous.
  8. Sort of but you don't really have to design design. Just bring him some pictures will be better. If not, you can try describing what you want from him and he will do. Like I mentioned, please do not expect 3D Drawings. I show you some examples... 1. I descriped to him and his carpenter what I want. 2. He goes back to draw this for me. 3. I added some details and the choice of laminates and kitchen fittings I want and send this back to his carpenter before they start work. This will minimise miscommunication and also allow you to visualise how the outcome should be.
  9. Hi, it may not be a good idea to compare final quote as the contents of our work may differ. Why dun you post here what you think it's expensive and how much he quoted you and I am sure some forummers, besides myself, can give you some feedback. Please read the whole thread for Ho Bee if you have the time. Patrick is not a person that tango very much with his pricing. He is a very principled person and believed in giving his best quote to his customers. Should you wish to cut down on your budget, I will suggest you cut on your work required or choose alternate cheaper materials.
  10. Sounds ex leh. Wardrobe with doors are in the region of $200 pfr. I did mine without doors at $160 pfr.
  11. I believed he works for Ho Bee. We are very happy with his workmanship for our TV features and Bomb Shelter. The kitchen one is 99.9% as there were some flaws within the cabinet. That I cannot penalise him as we made some changes along the way. He is a nice chap. Slower to react maybe because he takes time to analysis the problem. Patrick is a lot quicker when coming to trouble shooting. On the hold, I will still give the carpenter a thumbs up.
  12. Hi people, Our renovation is way completed and we have just moved in (officially) after our AD on 16 May 2009. On and off, I have shared some pictures of my renovation and also some little comments here and there on some threads, but I thought I should officially start one here just to share my thoughts and experience. We chanced upon Ho Bee from the Reno forum when we were shopping for IDs last year. Even though we already have a handful of short-listed IDs, we still gave Ho Bee a chance to quote. Some how, our gut feel says we should go ahead with Ho Bee even thou they were not exactly the CHEAPEST. However, comparing them to the 'so call' IDs, Ho Bee's charges came upon as really reasonable. On the first meeting at our new pad, we merely enquired about the possibility of taking a Reno loan. He was so honest to tell us that most contractors and IDs will be happy if their customers do, as they are given a commission for every approved loan. Wow, how honest can a person be to share this with you? After going thru our entire renovation process, I have learnt that there can never be a 100% SATISFIED renovation but Ho Bee came in pretty close to that line. Thru this Reno, I have seen how some house owners who will pick on little bumps or lines even thou they were concealed within the cabinets/corners or they require the use of a magnifying glass to really see them. I feel we are only making life difficult for ourselves as even the most beautiful women on earth may have a little imperfection which is not that visible. If given a chance, we will definitely engaged Ho Bee's service again. This is because Patrick was really a patience, honest and reliable man. During the cause of renovation, never did he once ask for payment. Nor did he ever say 'No' to something which we requested to be amended or fine tune. As he is heading a team of workers, surely there will be jobs done not according to specs (which is rare still) or not up to satisfaction. One call to him, he will arrange for meet up to rectify them. We knew he may come across has rigid when comes to pricing but it is with no doubts that the quality of his work are quite good. We believed in give and take for every situation. However rigid he was in pricing, a couple of our 'wish-list' was answered by him too. So for those who are looking for a contractor, please do not hesitate to give Ho Bee a try. Go with your gut feel. You will know if he is the right guy to do your job or not when you meet him. Talking of which, Long Ger (龙哥) is the carpenter whom assisted us from Patrick's company. Thou he may not be very vocal; he is also a very nice and reliable man. Another of their assistant whom we were happy with was Xiao Long (小龙). He is obliging, smart and really helpful. Most importantly, what ever task he agreed to do for you were always fulfilled on time. The rule of his business is to best email him (his wife actually, is helping him with all the admin & logistic work) @ queksurf@pacific.net.sg or mikiquek@singnet.com.sg with your floor plan and work required. If there is still no respond within 2 days, you may call him at Hp 96792934. NOTE: Ho Bee Renovation is a contractor, not ID. Please do not expect him to give you 3D drawings or proposal. If you already know what you want, please enclose pictures for him to see or when you meet him on site. His carpenter Long Ger (龙哥) can free-hand draw the item to you prior to starting work. All the best folks and enjoy your Reno process...
  13. Hi xicloudix, as requested...here's a peep of our incomplete bead curtain. As mentioned, I use earring hooks to hang the beads. Hope that the picture is clear enough for now as I took it with my hp camera for you I did a double track as I intend to have white string curtains at the outer track to flush my ugly green window. The crystal beads will shine better infront of the pearly white background, with the aid of my full length mirror next to it. This shall be a slow project as I have other priority for now. Shall have this done slowly but surely. Not sure if you are looking at something like this too?
  14. Hi xicloudix, I hung my beads curtain on the normal curtain track runner. You can just hook it on. As I bought and made my own beads curtain, I hook it on with 'hook earring' hook. I packet of 24 hook is about $1.80 or $2.00 only.
  15. Hi rdnest, thanks for your generous compliments. Your place looks awesome too mah. I see we have some similar tastes...chandeliers, wallpaper, glass door Oh... I loved your wallpaper very much too. Nice
  16. Hey hi flyingballoons, Hey, it's been awhile, yes! I am so totally overwelmed with work, reno and the planning of our AD. Has is been half a year? Oh wow, time really flies. One thing I am convinced after the reno process was that everyone and I mean EVERYONE around us will have some comments to give. It's tough trying to balance what you want and what others want you to have. hahaha. For the wardrobe thingy, I guessed I am a pretty organised person. The kind that will try to ensure things matches So I guessed it shall be ok. If it ever gets untidy, just don't invite people over lor How did your wedding went? Hope it was as planned. Did you "make" or break even? hahaha I am just a week plus away from the AD. Apart from those working hours, I have been pre-occupied with picking up last minute items for the house, pedi/mani, hair-do and facial. My immediate focus now is perhaps... 1. Finding the best painting/back-drop for those plain white walls behind my white sofa. 2. Finding the right foot wear for my Kua (Chinese Wedding Dress) which I will only wear for that few hours. 3. Finalising our wedding singer Arggg... I need 25 hours or a magic wand. hahaha.
  17. Our new breakfast corner is done... Think we may need a higher stool in future as the rack was fixed too high. Argggg!!!
  18. Hi poetsdesign, are you referring to the Master Bedroom? It's already done. Well, most part of it. Only missing some small details. I think I have the pictures of my bed and side table on one of the thread above
  19. Hi morning pinkpetter, wow you wake up so early to surf the net Yes, we knew Thailand and Cambodia is a good place to shop for such stuff, plus my job allows me to travel there quite a bit too. But with the political riots there since last year and also the economical situation, travelling opportunities are minimized. So no immediate opportunity
  20. Molecule at Great World City or you can try the top floor of The Verge, previously Tekka Mall. They are the wholesaler of articifical flowers, previously from Blanco Court and Concourse. I saw some ready made ones there. But I am 'making' my own with some of the beads bought from there. Project not completed yet.
  21. Hi pinkpetter, good buy eh? Actually, I missed out sharing some info. Most of the departmental stores have no table runners or have limited designs and choices. The one which has the most range is Takashimaya. They even have the length which I want...230cm-250cm. Most departmental stores are selling 200cm or 180cm. But the price tag....I tell you...very unforgiving. Cheapest one I saw was S$89. For such a simple design I want, it's really not worth it lor. Besides, it's just a piece of cloth. $89 and above? No way!
  22. Hi ivy, thank you thank you. The vodoo knife is bought from Europe. If I am not mistaken, it's close to S$200 or about $200+. In Singapore, the red one is selling at InQBox at Raffles City at about >$140. Some of the forummers bought it from there. Even thou the red one will also match the colours of our kitchen but the sliver one is more sleek.
  23. Help!!! My mum just saw our vodoo knife yesterday when she came over to our new place to fix up the curtain. She SOOOO hates it!! Asked me to replace it. How Now Brown Cow? But I love this vodoo knife SOOOOOOO much
  24. Hi pinkpetter, thank you thank you. The mat is only $4.60 or $4.90!!! LOL!!!! I expected it to be more then $15 or $19.90 at least:p I think I may go back TANGS Vivo to buy a couple more to keep. Here's a clearer picture of it. Sorry I have to cover up our face on the photo frame as we are both camera shy hehe I will be replacing my black nano with my guy's white ipod. Think it's more matching. Hmm..maybe if I have more time after our AD, I may try to change the skin of the nano or ipod into something metallic. OMG!! The thought of it excites me. hahaha. My guy cannot stand me at times...everything also must matching-matching one. Haiz, the men just dun get it.
