Advise Required For Hood/cabinet Problem

Doing reno for my kitchen and yesterday found a very funny design issue with the 'slot' for the kitchen hood.

Pull it down a bit and it will side out. Have complained to the main con and he say he will check later.

Don't know why the carpenter designed it like that.

Any suggestions?

I saw the contractor screwing the hood onto the back of the wall/cabinet in one of my relative's house before. So maybe he has not tightened it against the wall??
