A Gift From Heaven

Recommended Posts

Finally decided to hijack my HTB's account and create a t-Blog to share our experience and hope you guys out there can give us some suggestions/ideas along the way :)

Lady luck had been shining on us and we were very blessed to get our dream unit out of the balance units during the Sep 2011 SBF excercise!

Here's our floorplan:

What comes next after getting the floorplan is the most "hated" and tedious ID/contractor sourcing and selection process.

Below are some of the ID/contractor we contacted with that are worth mentioning for your reference.

"Rejected" ID/contractor

1. A + A Space Design

...

2. A & D Interior Decoration Pte Ltd

...

3. 9 Lives Pte. Ltd.

...

4. Blve Blue Design

...

5. Cosmo Image Contract

...

Shortlisted ID/contractor

1. IR Design - Roy Tan

An easy going guy who is straight forward, honest and have an eye for detail.

He was around when our air con contractor came and he offered some advices on design perspective for the position of the air con after our contractor left.

But being the boss of the firm, there's pros and cons to it.

A one man show means that he is always very busy so might be slow in response at times.

However it also means that he will be the one and only guy we need to liaise with to minimize miscommunication.

2. Ideal Design Interior - Terrence

A friendly and humourous guy.

He's the first ID we met who meets our minimal expectation of an ID after countless disappointment with other IDs.

3. Alan (Contractor)

As he's a contractor, we don't expect too much from him on design wise.

Based on his reputation in renotalk and our friend's feedback on his workmanship, we find him a trust worthy guy.

Hi jaskel & piknik, thanks!

Had been a very busy April with all the planning, preparations & shopping haha.

Finally have some time now to update.

Well, we have decided to entrust our love nest to Roy Tan from IR Design.

We hope he will live up to his name hehe.

Reno had started on last Thurs 26th April and 1 week had passed !!

1st 2 days were electrical works by his electrician and our air con contractor follow by the false ceiling works.

Below are the before and after photos of the false ceilings taken today ;)

There was a recess area in the living room and Roy suggested to box it up so that we will not have any constrain with the size of the sofa as we will be placing the sofa against this wall.

Won't have headache next time if we want to change to a bigger sofa.

Tiles had been delivered and tiling works had commenced today after HTB went to meet Roy to confirm on the layout of the tiles.

We choosed the tile on the right for living room & all 3 bedrooms.

Kitchen cabinet base is almost done as well as they will be installing the cabinets next week.

Cabinets are already sitting in the factory waiting to be installed.

HTB was telling Roy not to be so fast as we have difficulty in catching up haha.

It's time to "showoff" our loots from all the shopping! :D

Bed Frame

Initially we ordered this bed frame and showed it to Roy.

He knew we engaged a FSM to do a house audit so he asked is this bed frame suitable?

Cos the bed looks like it was divided into halve.

Me & HTB :jawdrop:

Immediately called our FSM and check and indeed this bed frame is NOT suitable !!

Reason being the cushion of the head board can be removed for washing.

Meaning 一刀两段??

So we went back to the shop and changed to this design.

Luckily the shop still allow us to change. *Phew*

If not for Roy, we are really into deep sh*t.

This probably explains why Roy has a super thick FS book in his office haha.

He can go moonlight as part time FSM liao... :good:

Sofa

This is a slider sofa. We bought the sofa without the L extension.

I think its great for flats which have a small area.

Just pull out when we need it and push it back when not in use.

My ID told me that according to fengshui, it is not good to have hanging lights for HDB, only suitable for landed property.. Forgot why already... Maybe you wan to ask ur 'fsm' regarding this?
