Cost Of Diy Painting For 2000Sqft Unit

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Need help in sourcing for paint vendor. I just purchased a 2000 sqft patio unit (newly TOP condo) and was quoted $2800 by my ID to paint the house.

He said he will use Nippon paint but I still have not checked for details like how many coatings, 1st coat to use Sealer a not? How many colors etc

I am no painter but I think I should be able to do the painting myself with my wife. I guess for all painting quotes given, the actual material cost works out to be like only 1/3 of the total?

Guess I may as well save myself $2k and enjoy the satisfaction of painting my own house.

I need some clarification as follows:

1> Being a new condo unit, all walls and ceilings already have a coat of white paint. As we still want everything to be white, is it still necessary to repaint using a coat of "Sealer" (Nippon Vinilex 5170) or can we just proceed to applying 1 or 2 coats of white paint directly (Nippon Vinilex 5000) ?

2> Our renovation works includes "False Ceiling" and feature walls on 1 side of the living Room and all 4 bedrooms. Do we have to repaint the whole house just to ensure all the white paint looks uniform, or can we get away with leaving those unaffected walls and Concrete Ceiling as it is (just using a wet sponge and scrub away any cement / plaster dust) ?

3> Is it the average price or could I get it for much cheaper at other Paint Shop Vendors? I went to a "Nippon Paint Service Centre" near Bendemeer area and was quoted the below prices. Are the prices reasonable? They provide free delivery for purchases above $300.

"Nippon Vinilex 5000" 5 Litre = $55, 20 Litre = $120

"Nippon Vinilex 5170" (oil-based Sealer) 5 Litre = $44, 20 Litre = $110

4> I was told that a 5 Litre can will cover about 250 sqft, so if painting whole house (2000sqft) .. just for ceiling alone.. Will work out to be an area of 6000sqft? (. 1st coat Sealer, plus 2 coats of white paint) I calculate I will then need 6 X 20 litres cans at $120 each = $720

The wall area I still have not measured yet. But based on 1 Sealer of coat plus 2 coats of paint. I guess it will cost at least $1000.

I only have a maximum of 4 days to finish the painting. Is it too ambitious a DIY project? Would appreciate any advice from those of you who has tried painting your house. Thank you.

ask for other contractor to quote u for painting . Why go all the trouble to do all yourself. Since u already spent that amt on reno.can bargain with ID or get another contractor to painf for u.

your time is also $$$..
