100% Tiles Wastage?

Recommended Posts

Hi, just got my new place and was looking at IDs for renovation. Went through a few and the one that we really like, which quoted us reasonable carpentry works seems to quote us much higher for tiling of the living room.

Most other IDs quoted the same 417 sqft living area between $2800 to $3400 (with $3 - $3.20 tiles). However this ID quoted us $6330, that comes up to $15.18 per sqft for tiling of the living area. He is also based on $3.20 tiles. Of course with a few quotations, I asked him in a diplomatic way such as how much area of tiles do I need if I were to look for my own tiles. He told 800 sqft with wastage. So I confronted him that my calculation of the living room florr is 417 sqft and how can there be almost 100% wastage? He told me that our living area shape is not standard and that's why lots of wastage. Is that true? But how come the other IDs didn't mentioned that?

Could it really be 100% wastage? Your opinion is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Here's the layout of the living.
