lukeskywalker 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2015 Hi allRecently, i got someone to paint my room and apparently, low quality paint was being used. After it dried up, occasionally when the climate changes, it emits a chemical sorta smell and it has been about 2 months. So i learnt my lesson and I tried to solve the problem by engaging another painter to apply another coat of paint over the existing one. This time round some nippon paint was being used. Thought that would solve the problem. However, the same smell keeps coming back a few days later whenever the climate changes once in a while. I believe the new coat of paint isn't able to cover up the old coat of low grade paint.Frustrated about this problem. Any advice anyone? Should i get the last painter to apply another coat of paint? Have already spent a bit of money and I am at lost now. Would really appreciate if someone can give some tips on solving this problem.
LastActionHero 1 Report post Posted January 19, 2016 This type of paint smell usually will last about 5-6 mths, but your are right about using low quality paint, it causes more problems than it solves
DarrenLimSG 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2016 Tried using charcoal as a remedy? Can try placing some in bowls around the place. The smell comes back as the old paint absorbs moisture.Charcoal will act as a dehumidifier. Removing the moisture, and thereby lessening the odor. Hope it helps! Cheers.
