  1. hello charemme, thanks for your kind comments when he quoted us and made us sign the variation addendums he only said it was for the kitchen walls. he never told us what he was charging for, even when we told him which panels we wanted. even though it was ex at $550, we weighed this against the price of re-spraying tiles which was 2k and felt its ok. Only later when done did we realise that we paid for too much
  2. hello ossify, halogen lights are heat producers...imagine dining table the heat directly shine on u when u eat...sure sweat one ! thats why i say its really hot to have halogen...led is much better in terms of heat generation...cant feel it at all.
  3. Chpt 10 : On a Brighter note Looks like my T-blog is attracting a lot of negative attn due to defects. Sigh when we created this, we wanted to share happy memories too. One thing we like is our false ceiling work. Which also met up with hiccups as they almost did the master-bedroom ceiling wrongly and did one row of lights instead of two inside the L-shaped cove. As usual, after work we were there and spotted the mistake. We called ID to explain, he didnt understand. We called electrician who immediately understood and told electrician to explain to ID what we wanted. Pathetic rite ? Anyhow, here are the pics.... living room PLC living rm PLC and LED spotlight common room mini false ceiling master bedroom L-shaped cove that we love
  4. Chpt 9 : Short-changed It was abt this time when our ID suddenly sprung a trap on us ! On his design and thru his 3D diagrams he portrayed a full feature wall for the TV console that extends up to the ceiling and down the opposite wall. He had previously used plasterboard to fill up half of a recessed area in our living room with a gap for the carpentry to do this feature wall. However, at this pt after the the plasterboard is complete, he tells us that this feature wall is NOT included and we have to pay $330 to top up for this. Had i known its not included, i would have just asked him to plaster the full wall and not leave me any lobang. Now what ?? i refused to pay for it and got an outside contractor to do for me for $180. i think i would have even paid shd it cost >$330 as its the principle ! the red circled are is the carpentry portion my own contractor did for me to cover the lobang As we examined the workmanship...here goes more pics.... my WIW...looks ok frm here (except the ugly white shelf holder bits until we look closer and discover the laminates didnt cover the drawers....all was done up in cheaper polykem. closer look u can see our leather laminates only on frame of wardrobe and not on all drawers. Is this normal ?? We questioned the ID he says drawers are considered 'internal' and wun be laminated. when we select laminates for WIW, this is what we get. middle strip is the frame in leather laminates. drawers on both sides in polykem. Correct ?? then we noticed the right entire side of the wardrobe oso in polykem. now....this one he cannot run....dun tell me the side is also considered 'internal' ?
  5. Thanks for your advice worldangel...have PM'ed u

  10. Other horrific surprises we had was the common toilet sink. We had told our ID abt the semi-recessed sink we got. We even passed him the exact measurements. But did he tell carpenter ?? Noo....ended up the toilet vanity was too broad esp plus the portruding sink. since i have a glass panel beside the loo, the person walking between the vanity cupboard and glass partition to get to the loo would have to have an 18 inch waist !! We complained, he didnt re-do the cupboard. he just sawed it in half and mounted our sink on it. here's a look at the vanity after the cut. We then noticed the cupboard doors a bit weird. why ah ?? do you notice the left side has a gap and the right doesnt ?? we asked the carpenter he said everyone's cupboard also like this....we told our ID, he backed the carpenter. So.....all u out there...are your cupboards like this too ??? other tales of terror on our 2 study tables. yes...bright fuschia is the color of choice here... all the drawers were crooked or uneven !
  11. Chpt 9 : House of Horror Wk 6 of reno happened to be hubby's F1 week and he couldnt go down to supervise. As Nobody supervised the ceiling work and carpentry, tonnes of things went wrong. Gonna post it like we saw it. Here goes. Kitchen. First glance looks ok...but we noticed that they did not drill the correct hole for the wiring. they drilled on the (green X area) when we wanted them to go thru the cupboard (red arrow area). Now, since they drilled wrongly, i told my ID and asked him to amend but instead, all he could do was to construct this ugly box thing to put the switches on a side panel thus shortening my cabinet size. funny looking square box shortening my cupboard length then we noticed carpenter had drilled a huge round hole on the cabinet top for a PLC light. Thruout all my discussion with ID, we told him we are putting spotlight. he also drew spotlight on perspective drawings. we pointed it out to carpenter and all he could say was 'oh like that ah...cannot fix' and refuse to fix. luckily, we went to collect our lights and tried them on and he is lucky it Just fitted
  12. yeah wardrobe space is neva enuff ! we hacked the room next to us too...and despite adding an extra ft of space, the wardrobe still looks very compact....will need to rely on my other wardrobe in my common rm to store more clothes...
  13. sigh...i know the bleeding a/c feeling.... yup shd just do the shower area u can do one thick strip mosaic and contrast with single color tile oso very nice. just to let ya know its abt $12 psf for the mosaic..

  15. u can be like us, do a 1 or 2 feature panels only...choose a smaller panel...its worth it leh...just close eyes sign checkbk...
  16. Chpt 8 : Tree Killers We've probably eliminated a few acres with our carpentry. This was the most PAINFUL part of our reno. We paid a mighty sum for it and got low quality work done. Best part was that we did tonnes of explanation with our ID way beforehand but when it came down to the actual day of measurements with our carpenter onsite, he wasnt there. as a result, lots of dispute. sighhh..... First, to show how much carpentry we got, well, practically the entire lift lobby was filled with stuff. Came in a jumbo lorry from gd old lian bang land (ie M'sia) cupboards more cupboards erm...even more cupboards blocking the lift lobby at the beginning the wood looked gd. mostly plywood these doors are super heavy
  17. That would be a dream... My hubby is a kopi addict..
  18. Thanks Rondy...yeah we tried not to look at the bill when this one came in... mosaic has never been cheap...thats why we did 2 panels only...hee

  20. Chpt 7a : Kitchen Appliances One of the first things we got for our home was the stuff frm Ariston we got sometime Mar 09. I love to bake, so a gd oven would be absolutely essential to the home. Ariston FQ 1012 C.1 ICE Oven Steam oven SO 100 IX Cast Iron Hob PZ750RGH all have the sheer metallic look for the industrial theme we intended for the kitchen
  21. Thanks for your appreciation Beany ! glad u are like us and love nature in your home. and no...it isnt very expensive at all. slightly more than parquet and cheaper than marble !
  22. completed wood flooring...love the sheen master bedroom with tiny dresser another view we also did the bay windows of all three rooms
  23. Chpt 6 : Wood within the wood the prettiest part for the home for me, is probably the solid wood flooring. it really gives the luxe feel due to its thick heavy texture that i absolutely adore. these are thick strips of solid white oak timber. not parquet strips. wood actually looks and feels better and better when seasoned. my ID didnt coordinate this as the contractor is a friend. unfortunately, they no longer do local sales. only direct imports to USA and Europe now. This is their corporate site below the headache part here was arranging the screeding. if u recall, town council is the one arranging the screeding. we made an appt with them the very day we took keys. and they stood us up for 3 times! this was a major part of the delay in my home as no flooring means no carpentry, no painting, no ceiling works. by the 3rd time hubby was so mad that the town council lady came personally to our doorstep to apologise. 1st time what screeder forgot, 2nd time screeder sick, 3rd time dunno what. gahmen sweet gahmen this is how the wood (water resist plywood base used to build ships hulls + solid timber) sits on the screed markers portion of flooring, showing depth of wood
  24. whoa phantom! wish i could give u a gold star ! you are absolutely correct. its to mark the screed level for my wood flooring !!
