What about a floor to ceiling custom built white bookcase, that way, you maximise space, and the white shelving would not make the room feel too small.
Something like that would probably fit great with your resort theme, and since you don't want the bookcase to overwhelm the room, maybe you should go for a low bookcase.

I think this style is inspired by the Hollywood Regency look. In case you are interested, there's a shop called Vanilla Home that sell many stuff in that style, but it's really expensive.
