  2. He said those at $20-$25 are balau or merbau woods. But I asked around even balau or merbau cannot be cheaper by $15-$20 to chengal wood...maybe he is using old chengal wood while cheaper ones are using young ones? In fact, what are the main difference on age for wood anyway? They will be exposed under sun and rain after all...any opinions?
  3. i got a quotation of $40/sqf for a 120sqf roof garden...designer said they are using the real chengai while the cheap ones like $20-$25 range is not chengai wood at all and will corrode after 1 or 2 years...he sounds serious about it and I am quoted almost $1k plus more than normal market rate? how do you guys think?
  4. Dearest all: I will collect my keys for a almost 10 year old resale condo.I have been going through all the hunting, searching, comparing work..Now I reached to the final stage to pick up one of the two. However, your kind opinions are very much appreciated. Firm A: Slightly bigger than Firm B. The designer is very confident when talking to us and proposed some ideas with drawing. Interestingly, this designer has done many units at my condo (like a featured designer?) and we have a gut-feeling that their work might be decent and reliable. However, their package is about 10% more expensive than Firm B. Plus, we're afraid that this designer won't listen to us much and unwilling to alter ideas due to over-confidence and maybe stubbornness?? Firm B: I used them for my previous house but I can't really tell their quality of the work as I didn't do much then. Designer didn't propose much comparing to Firm A this time but the designer is very friendly and kind. willing to listen to you but sometimes she seems over-listening to you while forgetting to sell her idea which might be better. Her package is 10% cheaper but one thing I have a concern is her commitment level. This time round she is not very responsive and hard to get her reply. Instead, she got an assistant who has been helping us with quotation and queries..i.e. Her commitment level to our new house is very much doubted. anyway, the total quotation is around 60k, so 10% is about 5 or 6k diff among the two. How do you all think? many thanks!!
