  1. I'm so confused now...before shopping for lights, did so research, and thought i want to buy cfl downlights. but after visiting 2 of the recommended lighting shops, both also highly recomend plc for downlight...u think i should stick to cfl or etter switch to plc? thanks.
  2. hi, i'd like to make good my existing windows in my 4 rm resale flat, but my contractor quoted me $700-$800plus for replacing the arms of casement windows at kitchen area and replacing all the rollers for sliding windows whole house, since his company is not bca approved for window works, he got to get from another company, i think it is very expensive, so want to c if anyone can recommend a better BCA approved window contractor. Thanks.
  3. Hi, i'm doing my renovation now. But seemed like mycontractor/ ID not providing some services/ items if i didn't make known to him. So i'd like to check, for a 4rm resale renovation, maybe just some simple lightings and switches here and there, is it common practise for them not to give u any electrical plan? We decided the elect points etc when the electrician came to the site & he just mark on the wall where are the points etc, so should i ask him to follow up with drawings? Thank you.
  4. lucky you. =) Is the workmanship good? PM me the contact? Coz my friend wants to redo her cabinets and toilets. thks.
  5. Thanks a lot. =) Mine is a 4 rm...Reason why i didn't just give the plan and budget to ID is coz i roughly have an idea what we want for our house. (Most ID that i talked to didn't even cares what ur daily routine is, they just design based on general demand, or what they like...very disappointing.) And i notice, they usually will leave out electrical cost. I think okay lah, just stick to LamiTak bah, anyway, i'm going to use high-gloss white laminate, i checked with another forumer, she's using and no problem so far. haha...my hb saw me so stressed with all these decision making, he promised if things didn't work out well, we can redo the reno in maybe 5-10yrs. =p
  6. U guys are so nice and helpful! I've signed up, and today they started hacking already. Never mind lah, just hope he'll delivered a good job as what he promised. Reason why the rush was becoz we were too busy with work and wedding preparation, till last month. Then my HB is the easy going type, so he can't really be bother with searching for a good ID (or maybe he trusted me too much?)..and his rental contract will end this june, so got to finish the reno by then. Felt quite helpless earlier when the forum was down Cannot ask for comments then, just sign up loh.
  7. thanks, so relieve to know that. my contractor using lamitak too.
  8. lamitak better or lamchuan or EDL for white glossy laminate? thks.
  9. I looked for so many ID, all quoted me $30 something K, so ended up with this...haiz...many ID didn't even reply after i asked for quote...They don't seem to want my business at all...haha...maybe they don't feel the recession at all. Didn't really bargain coz I hope this guy will do a good job for me. Scare i bargain too much, he'll cut corners here and there. But a bit disappointed coz like solid top, only can choose from LG (4 or 5 color, all white or cream), so in the end, no choice but change another brand. Then laminate, was told not able to choose from certain range, like the leather type, only can use for small area, then cannot choose metalic laminate. I can choose from Lamitak or lamchuan or any others, but he is using lamitak, so i've to go get sample if i want other brands...is this the difference between ID and contractor kind of ID?

  13. Thanks everyone for the valuable feedbacks so far. Do add more to the list if u have more to share...i'm sure others whom are doing reno for the 1st time will find these info very useful too. Btw, when u do glossy finish for kitchen cabinet, do u just specify as glossy laminate or is it something else? I read in a chinese book, piano finish is more lasting and scratch resistant, anyone knows if piano finish is a laminate or a paint with special coating?
  14. Hi, just curious what are the materials u regret using/ installing in your house? Maybe it's extremely difficult to maintenance or spoilt very easily. Anyone have trouble with glossy laminate for cabinets? eg. white color laminate, will it turn yellowish after some time?...Which kind of glossy material is best? Want to gather some info first before I start my renovation. Thank you.
  15. I like the glossy cabinets too...but after talking to some ID, most of them tell me not to go for it if i want easy maintenance and glossy cabinets will be scratch easily, attract dust etc...All of them said it's best to go for laminates, rather than arcylic and tempered glass. Should I listen to their advices? Hope to get feedback from people with glossy cabinets. Thanks.
