  1. haha same here... will have to leave the spare room for my mom / other family members / friends when they visit me :)

okie gotta furnish the room before mommy comes in July~

Long-lost sister...... In case if u r shopping around for the furishing... Don't buy vhive wardrobes! Remember u asked me during my hse warming whether my vhive wardrobe is good as u have read that there r mould growing on it and I told u no... Mine has NOW!!!! I have to wipe it every week!!!! :furious: Only started recently... Wipe then come back...wipe then come back again.... :bangwall: But the strange thing is my study table which is also from vihive okie leh... Sigh....

  2. Hey potatoes!

I wouldn't want to share who's my contractor la... coz seriously, I'm not very pleased with him... but I think I'm too nice & soft to have things my way...

I rather you take on some of the other contractors/IDs recommended by other forummers, such as Henry (marshmallow's, friends78's, etc), Donny (mae29's, st96's, etc)...

If u want to know who he is to avoid him, I can PM you la... LOL...

as for the design, it's mainly my own inputs, with suggestions and research from renotalk and magazines... (can check out Aaan's Hjiem)... so I won't credit my contractor/ID for that too...

Hi Bro, cheer up! Can see that u are very disappointed with your contractor but look at the brighter side.. Things are moving and falling in place... U will be enjoying your fruits of labour in no time. So not that bad lah... I feel that as long as the contractor is still willing to rectify and keep thing moving... it is kind of relief already.. Saw horror stories about contractors doing disappearing acts upon receiving payment or half done jobs... So I guess we are very fortunate if we can get a complete house... Poor workmanship, attitude still can work it up...So must stay happy and cheerful:) Jia You! :thumbs up:

  3. Ooh, DIY for the day:

Remember those Ikea wooden storage shelves? Used the inserts and was going to throw the casement away then decided to convert it into guest amenities shelf! Used a glossy paper bag for the backdrop:

Painted another with chalkboard fronts so I can label all my hoarding. :P

    - Ely

someone must watch me closely when I'm in Ely's house... I'm going to clean these shelves!!!!

  4. Re the household shelter rack done up by yee-sin, did u encounter problem ordering from them? Cos Ely was telling me that they don't really entertain her calls and kept asking her to email... I felt quite bad for recommending them to her...

  5. Congrats on the official move in! Huat Ah! Huat ah! I also boiled water..but I do it in the kitchen... Your first meal look delicious! Yummy! My first meal is a pathetic bowl of maggie mee with an egg... (till now my fridge only have 3 main items; can drinks, eggs and butter. Not kidding..the gang who visited my place can verify.. Hee.. hee...) Maybe that cld be the reason that we have yet to strike 4D till now? Ha! Ha! I like your coffee table decor!

  6. then good choice he made... nice bi-fold door. hehehehe.... i like PD door but i know now many ppl not used to it. maybe after few years, then can change my door. hehehehe.... i didn't realised until marshy told me. :sport-smiley-018:

20% premium but worth it lah... when you want to sell in the future, also will have the 20& premium one. no worries!!!

If I have a choice, I wld luv glass door. More classy... Something like your master bedroom toilet but not clear glass :P But I got space issue.... I wanted PD door initially but both contractors strongly against it so I dropped the idea... But after seeing footprint's clear glass PD door (did I get the correct hse? Read too many tblogs, might have got wrong hse), I regret not getting PD door again. But of cse, not clear glass lah... We are old fashioned... Can't take clear glass toilet door... Ha. Ha....

  7. hey long-lost sister! :sport-smiley-004:

finally met you last Sat hahahaha~ really i got a shock when i noticed the same floor mat~ wonder what other things we have that are the same hahaha

btw, actually i dun notice anything cheena leh.... maybe becos i was too busy admiring your kitchen (and hubby too busy looking at the bifold door LOL) ;)

I remembered I even scolded Henry when he asked me do I want to see any sample of the bifold door... All look the same to me leh..so I told him to decide for me...

bro, you're lucky to have a wife who reads maps well

and yea the rain was scary siah.... did it rain heavily on your way back? :D

i love the high ceiling too! but i guess friends78 doesn't like the additional 20% of cost :P

  9. Thanks for inviting us over!

    It was fun and enjoyable.

Your home is nice la, and dun look cheena. Rather it blends subtle Chinese elements into the your modern design, and it's very well done. Most importantly, have the kind of 'homely' feeling.

Thanks...It's great chatting with u and your SO... Hope you guys will have a smooth reno journey too :)

    Sis friends78

Thank you for inviting us over to your lovely abode yesterday! You are as beautiful as your house!

Thank you for sharing the cost of food at May's place! I enjoyed it!

Thanks. U are most welcome:) Mae Jie, it has been a while since I received compliments saying I'm pretty...U make my day... Also, u don't look like your age.. I'm inspired by u... Decided to grow my hair long, perm it so that I can also execute the charm u had when I reaching the big 4 in few years' time .. Btw, as we are busy chit chatting, I forgot to ask u about some FS questions:P I PM you when I'm free... Thanks in advance...

    hey sis friends78 & hubby!

thanks for inviting me & wifey over to visit your new place!

sorry, we were late... due to the heavy downpour at the west, leading to heavy traffic on PIE, and also the road works ard Bendemeer Road made me go in circle and of coz, my lousy navigation/driving skills... WAHAHAHA...

anyway, i really love your high ceiling; it gives a very lofty and spacious feel to the whole place. :)

I like your kitchen too; the choice of wood laminate and the white solid surface top (that sparkles!) and also the lighting under the suspended bottom cabinets for the "floating effect"... too bad I can't have that, coz my area still using LPG... :(

I don't find your place very cheena leh... the elements are subtly blended in... :)

ohh... and interesting wall decals at the main entrance; my wife's very keen to put up some wall decals too... but i'm like....

And thanks for the great food too!

As for whether I'll invite fellow renotalk forum members over... I definitely will la... but don't know when only (coz i also not too sure exactly when it will be ready... painting pending on monday though)... still quite a few issues/defects to trash out with my contractor... :furious:

the few of us (mae29, sleek, knownothing & wife) who popped by my place for a quick peek at the work-in-progress may understand some of my issues... maybe mae29 has some pics to share. LOL...

nevertheless, I hope i'll be able to have you peeps over some time in mid-June (*cross my fingers it will be ready then*)

Thanks... Specially for your wife... this is where I got my decals:- http://www.wallvolution.com/category/wall-stickers-decals

But it's not easy pasting it... So wall paper might be a better alternative... Hope u see you guys soon:)

Sorry we were unable to make it to your place, Friends78. We had the electrician at the house working on the tripped lights and in fact were so late to May Dream's, that we left the electrician there to finish up. He is 100% trustworthy so we didn't mind. It was still wonderful meeting you and your husband later on. :) You're very funny! Shared some great laughs with you :)

I hope my tiny, tiny little token made up for our absence at your place :P

    - Ely

Luv your gift:) just nice for my masterbedroom... Really hope your reno will be smooth sailing from this week onwards... And... you are very beautiful and gorgeous! Now I know y all the reno guys kept looking at you... How not do?? :sport-smiley-004: Even I, a woman, was captivated by u

  10. Thanks for having us all over, your house is very very nicely done up. I totally forgot to pass you a little token earlier, will pass to you at our next gathering.

Who is going to finish reno soon!? :)

Thks for the compliments... Guess u guys know y I insisted of coming to mine first... Cos I got no hacking or interesting doors. Ha. Ha. Only playing around with laminates and the furniture and some DIY decals. We are pretty old fashioned (can see from the 'cheena' display pieces that we fancy) so quite glad that most of u still like it...

i think Ely will be finishing her reno soon. or else will be csingeu loh...

Not too sure if csingeu will have us over leh... His face says it all :P Ha! Ha!

  11. Many thanks to Mae Jie, Eugene, Sleek, Knownothing, Cingseu, Mashy, May_dream and all their SOs for taking the time to visit my humble place and the gifts:) Apologies if I have missed out anyone cos there were too many nicks to remember...Also to Ely, Boyblunder for the wonderful gift and the yummy durian puffs... Sorry Adidaem, I think we didn't have much chance to talk... Too many people around... :sport-smiley-004: Enjoyed ourselves very much:) Hope to see you guys again :thumbs up:

PS: Mashy, to think that we even have the same floor mat! Aiyoh.... How can we not be long lost sisters? Thanks for showing me how to use my microwave ;P Hee... Hee...

  12. Bepgof, good! Cos nowadays hdb sellers tend to set the selling price as valuation plus a high COV...

Random_username, COV will eat into disposable cash for buyers. That's y buyers r very concern about it rather than selling price. There are many reasons when one needs to buy a particular area/hse so no choice... at the mercy of the sellers...

  13. Hi all,

Thanks for all the insights and great advice. Thought I should update here that we are giving that unit a miss and moving along, hoping to find something better. :)

Hope u can get a better unit. Previously, I also lost a bidding war with an unit in mcnair who also insisted on 80k COV. Was quite sad when we failed to get it...Anyway, we can't afford anything above $60k. However, all is not lost as we managed to find one which is even nearer to my inlaws & baby within 2 weeks. A blessing in disguise!! So good luck to u:)

  14. Ely,

Big Hug to you! Guess u can only keep pushing... Hope everything will be fine within the next 2 weeks. The waiting game to HO is agonizing. I experienced it myself as I have specific move-in date and I kept calling the site supervisor every hr for the last 3 days...

Looking at the discussion with RB on soundbar was indeed enriching. But I'm someone who didn't even own a single pc of DVD so I guess it's a waste of money to invest in one. Hubby also prefers going to cinema for movie.. A good excuse to throw our baby with inlaws once in a while. Going out for a nice dinner before movie, just like going back to our courting days...

So don't be shocked to see a $25 LG DVD when u come over this sat hor... I bought it so that I may need it to play Barney VCDs when my son reaches 1 year old.
