    I had good experience with him, as I have mentioned before. And as he is a contractor, he will not be able to give you much design ideas - you will have to do a lot of homework yourself. But this is something to be expected when you engage a contractor instead of an interior designer. We went in with this mindset and thought we got back our money worth and more. Patrick and his wife were extremely pleasant to deal with and after the renovation when there was a problem with our tap, the wife even sent us a cheque to compensate the plumber whom we called down to check on the tap (long story, but it proved their sincerity and after-sales service).

    nn, You should tell Patrick to deduct the cost for varnishing. If he say cannot refund money, then ask him for other extra works using that $500 credit.

    Latter option, I dont think he can deny if you really mention not to varnish doors.

    I think there are much worse contractor out there. Odds for choosing right one will be hard as winning a TOTO, haha.

    Do you know the duration of Warranty from Ho Bee? I saw thread someone got 5 years warranty!! Can this be true?

    I agree you should ask for the cost of varnishing to be waived since this is not your fault. Once, their plumber made a mistake when they came to check upon the tap in my house (the water flowing from the tap was very small and his plumber kept insisting that the tap was faulty. Turns out that there was a filter built inside the tap which they didn't detect when they were checking. Had to ask someone from Poh Joo to come and check and as a result, had to pay $80 to the plumber from Poh Joo) and I insisted that Ho Bee should bear the cost when I called another plumber to check. Mrs Quek transferred $80 upon finding out about this. The same thing happened to my friend who hired them earlier this year and she got the $80 refunded too.

    i will always ask their name, dun call people... the plump one!!!! LOL! i guess probably long-ge... the one who talks softly and doesnt talk much. so funny, there's this little corner on the study desk covered, so i asked him, long ge, why din do door for me? he said, the space so small... i said: but i can put 10 packs of tissue paper!! (i turned my head behind and laugh) :D he took it so seriously and showed me a very difficult face!! wahahahaha! very sure he very scared of me... cos i rejected kitchen drawers where a lot of space was wasted, my super tiny kitchen already no space for plates & pots le... :~ actually, he made my utensil drawers too tall (i could stack 2 trays in a drawer), took up the space that i wanted to put my plates... but i din tell him this, cos if i reject, the whole 4ft cabinet got to redo, and he did a really nice glossy microwave cabinet... so dun add misery to his life further...

    but these few days, there's another carpenter at my place, also plump plump one, call... xiao-long... then there's a young guy whom everyone calls him xiao-di, they are nice and helpful!! so helpful that they stayed till late and patrick text me to release them as he has no money to pay ransom!!! :lol:

    they are nice people!! :) but am very sure if long ge sees me again, he will faint! cos i'm super fussy!

    honestly, am very appreciative about the study desk, cos some contractors told me, cannot la! how to do!!... neh... see see see.. who says cannot do? ho bee can do!!

    and then i'm going to put frames on the walls, arrange in tis manner, overlap!! xiao-long says, wa! yi-shu (arts) ah, i can do for you! dun worry! :rolleyes: what else can i say? :lol: i have not got a 'NO' so far from ho bee... only the 10 packets tissue paper compartment!! :lol:

    Haha same for my case, he also never said no to me...my husband also very fussy one as he is also in the design field...got a few things also asked them to rectify but they never showed black face even once...

    Probably for those who wants to engage them, talk to Patrick about the feedback u heard in the forum..Usually for reno with all the carpentry, i think it will talk 2 mths..

    According to his worker, now they sort of do their own carpentry work. Maybe last time outsouce so better quality.

    Mine took around 6 weeks....they were very fast for mine.

    My place already start hacking yesterday and will continue today. Wow! Whole house is extremely messy. Patrick's standard is very high which is good

    1) He rejected the whole lot of foyer tiles because the tiles have different thickness and some has slight warpage. It looks reasonable and acceptable to me with very slight problem but since he say not good, will return and re-choose another design.

    2) He also say the kitchen sink is not suitable for undermount despite shop saying can undermount because the surface is not the flat type. Patrick mention can do but there will be issue in future so I need to change it.

    I read that for undermount, if we didnt do properly, it is a very drastic change because by replacing sink, have to remove the whole solid top...Wow! Nightmare.

    Overall a very detail person...Hope everything will progress smoothly.

    Don't worry...he will do a good job ;)

    Have receive a quote from them recently.

    Anyone find that their pricing is high?

    Is almost like an ID price.

    Anyone any comments? Did anyone successfully cut the pricing from them after the 1st quote If not I will rather go for an ID

    It will be quite hard to slash the price as patrick is known not to give substantive discount. But you can be assured what you see is what you get - there will usually be zero to minimal hidden cost when you do renovation with him. Unlike with IDs, I have heard that the price you get at the beginning will usually increase as the reno proceeds because there were a lot of things which were not listed in the first quote.

    But if you are a very busy person, I will advise you to go for IDs as you will have to arrange to meet with the deliverymen for various purchases such as your air cond, toilet accessories, etc. Patrick will not be responsible for this. Plus you will also need to tell him what colours you want to paint for all your walls, how you plan your house layout etc.

    hi, i had done my hse in white theme =) my whole kitchen cabinet in pearl white & my living hall tv feature wall & console, even the shoe cabinet too!

    i ever worried about the same problem too.. but i like white =P so i go for what i prefer.. ***maybe i just need to work hard on maintainance lo... or maybe can change the laminate after sometime when it turn yellowish lo.. :D hehe this is what i trying to convince myself =P

    hmmm... hav lived for nearly 9mths.. so far so good, ***maybe only 9mths!?? hahaha honestly.. i dun clean it often maybe once a week only..

    ^o^ --- my advice ... go for what u prefer.. ** since maybe u will regret if u didn't try.. haha I assume that =P

    Oh must send them email ah. Some stuffs like plastering not done well, toilet entrance skirting is uneven, change of windows handles, change of 1 grille rivet in MBR ect. I can't even remember all myself haha

    Yea last time I would e-mail or sms her. Cos they might have other renovations going on at the same time and these little things might slip their mind. To keep track, maybe just bring a notebook with u whenever you go and visit your hse? Then write down all the things that you think need to be changed or rectified...

    Hehe congrats...

    as for the small things that you want to do, what are they? Better to send to Mrs Quek (in e-mail or sms). If you just tell them verbally they might forget. After you have sent the e-mail/sms, give her a call to confirm that she has received it and understand what you want them to do :)

    Just found out that I need my window installer to come install my window for the toilet before tiling. What about rooms windows? *headache*

    Better get them to install the windows at one go....I think you need to install the windows before tiling can start.

    Also, do ask Patrick to let u know what needs to be done first...
