  1. anyone here can recommend another contracter as good as Ho Bee, but cheaper? i am looking for one to reno my new place.

i have used Ho Bee before. excellent workmanship (especially tiling), speedy and responsible. unfortunately, their pricing is steep and not easy to negotiate.

You can try Henry from ID Note or Mr Yeak.

Of course there are cheaper contractors out there but dunno whether they can be trusted or not. Have heard horror stories about some of them so I think better be safe than sorry.

  2. Hi

Just got my keys to 4room premium flat.

Can pls email me a copy of Patrick's quotation & also some pics of his work?

    My email is superled2006@gmail.com

I have gotten my 1st quotation from Patrick. Am suprised that he charges for disposal of debris & acid / general cleaning cos it's normally foc right.

    How should I proceed?

To bargain down the quote 1st or to meet up with Patrick at the flat for final discussion and bargain only after final quotation?

    Thank u v much

I have emailed the quotation to you. He also charged me for clearing of debris and acid cleaning. But I think that's rather normal...I have seen contractors/IDs charging for that as well.

You can take a look at pictures of his work in my T-Blog (The link is in my signature).

As for the bargaining, you can bargain once you are very sure you want to hire him to do the work for you...for me, I bargained after my final quotation and got some stuff done for free (but just a few hundreds la, won't be much).

  3. Hi Worldangel,

    Thanks for your comment,

I agree with your opinion about, "it doesn't leave any permanent damage, just feedback to the workers and let it go".

But I still don't feel good about such actions.

May be different culture and background about expectation for service quality.

I will tell Patrick about the issue and let's see how he respond.

    Thanks

    SU

Yea, hopefully it will not be repeated again... :)

  4. Hi All,

I'm using Patrick for my reno. So far he has been prompt and sincere. His contractor quality is good.

However, few things I am having frustration,

    1. My warranty card for bathtub was floating in the bathtab in the water.

Contractor did not bother to take it out before installation? :curse:

    2. I don't mind contractor smoke while they do their works, but

they throw it on the floor after they smoked. :curse:

    3. Every time I go to my house for inspection, I clean my kitchen cabinet, (Kitchen reno has finished already)

everytime I comeback, kitchen cabinet and sink is messed with dirts. (i have maid room sink, why they dont use maid room sink?) :curse:

anyone who used Hobee had same experience?

    Best Regards,

    SU

    1. I didn't have any problem with #1 because all my warranty cards were removed from my items before the reno commences.

    2. Mine smoked as well but they threw it into the toilet bowl I think. I saw it floating there so I just flushed it away the next day if I saw it.

    3. Hmm, never had this experience so far. My kitchen cabinet was one of the last piece of carpentry though and the workers really helped to clean them (mine was all white) before handing the house over to us. They even helped us to sweep the floor after they are done installing all the carpentry work.

Hmm, what I can say is...if it doesn't leave any permanent damage, just feedback to the workers and let it go...hopefully they will take care and don't repeat it in the future...

  5. Hi worldangel, i'm new here :) working on tight budget & i'm planning to do kitchen & toilets only...so not looking for fanciful ID too... can send me your quotation & patrick/ho bee's contacts?

trust tt you're very happy with his services & workmanship!

    thank you :)

    Hi,

I have sent you the quotation for your reference :) The contact is also in there.

Yup, I am a very satisfied customer of Ho Bee so that's why I have been recommending him to my friends and forumers here. But I think he has a busy schedule so do contact him fast!

Hope you will have a smooth reno journey!

  6. Hi all.. i noe this question should not be here .. but really your expertise lei..

i have 2 wall tiled up in living room. dun want to hack and plaster as it costs more.. anyone can give me advice how to cover up to become normal smooth wall ?

Will wallpaper or decal do ? if i put wallpaper on the wall, will it become smooth ?

will i still see the pattern of the tile ?

    thank you

Hmm I think need the surface to be smooth before you can put the wallpaper on...otherwise might not stick?

Just my opinion...wait for other experts to come in :P

  7. Thank you.. i jus bought sofa (newest arrival 1 day old) ;) fr sofa club.. soon will post the pic..hee.. pocket burn a hole liao. heee.. tmr wil go n see poh joo, btw how do you get revised and sign the contract ?cos i wanna change few things .. u r using turbo ? how is it ? i am thinking to get Rinnai, so much rave ..or will get turbo..

jus an update bought air con system 3 mistubishi easy clean, 1 set of tiny patio table and stools, shoe cabinet.

To get the quote revised, I usually will meet up with Patrick or I will e-mail what are the additional stuff I need. Then he will edit and send me the revised version with his signature via post cos I need that to apply for my reno loan from bank.

Turbo oven is functioning well for me so far...but my baking is limited to mostly cookies and casserole dishes...haven't really tried baking cakes so dunno how good the oven will be when it comes to that. But so far, it is good and user-friendly...my cookies turn out well most of the time (well, according to ppl who ate them :P )

  8. Hi to all.. I'm new here.. based on all the comments i read, seems like patrick/Ho bee is very popular.. hehe..

To ponyoblue, starblume, worldangel: Can i request for a copy of patrick's quotation please?

Am getting my flat probably end of the year and am starting to do my research now.. =) kiasu??? keke...

    Big Thanks in advance!

Yea sure I can send to you..but need your email add ;)

  9. Starblume : u mus be busy, i took a day leave to go through the quotation and do research, how is the quality of nam wah and poh jo ? i m so new in all this , still have not buy anything, i jus bought 3 bed only. will be waiting for ur advise..

Poh Joo stuff not bad, I bought all my toiletries and sinks from them. So far functioning fine. Though their taps have this filter in them, will cause the water flow to be smaller. So you need to ask your plumber to remove the filter before fixing it up in your toilets.

  10. Hi Worldangel & Nekorin,

Been browsing your blog.. your place looks nice. Congrats!

Will be getting my very 1st home probably in May and am trying to absorb as much info as i could.

We already engaged our ID, but I don't think anyone would know in RT... never see anyone mention before :D

    Btw, your cookies look yummy..

    Cheers,

    infinitie

Hee thanks for the compliments :)

All the best...you can gain a lot of renovation knowledge here ;) This forum helps me a lot during the planning of my renovation hehe

  11. Oh I see... Abt sms-ing right, I do notice that contractors don't really have the habit of sms-ing... especially if they are those "old school" types from older generation. They prefer to call direct and talk face-to-face if anything, sms is something they are not quite comfortable with. Also, it could be possible that they are not literate right? As in, they read and write in Chinese, not English. I know this because my mom & my aunts are like that, they cant really understand if I send them smses in english, but in chinese is fine... perhaps u can consider this?

I think it's best to always talk to your id/contractor and be direct with them. I would imagine that since I cannot read their minds, neither can they read mine... so best to clear the air and tell them exactly what you want...lesser headaches later ;)

Agreed... searching for ID / Contractor is a very sian thing to do... zz

I went to 5 (2 IDs and 3 contractors) before finally deciding to use Patrick. I think looking for house is even more sian...I went to visit more than 50 houses before I found my current hse :P

  15. Hi all,

Sorry have been mia lately... renov is really taking up alot of time! And on top of that I have been scouting for materials for home such as taps, sinks, cabinets etc...

Those who want quotation, pm me ur email please, I will email u the quotation. I CANNOT POST quotation here la...not nice ;)

So far Patrick has been really prompt still with everything, the only problem I am facing is my air con, which has drainage problems and the piping seems to be screwed up. So Patrick has been rushing me to get my air con done (he does not do air con) so that he can start tiling and doing other stuff. He did rec a guy for air con but the price was a bit high, so I went to do my research on this forum and went to Gain City(Marina) and turns out price was cheaper by approx. S$400 :o

Problem with Gain City - their schedule is super packed. Installation is next available in 3 weeks time which I cannot wait but the guy who did site inspection today promised me he will try his best to fit me into Monday to do the piping so at least my tiling can continue. Keeping fingers crossed.

So ONE BIG Tip folks, especially if u are a newbie like me for renov - GET your aircon quotation FIRST & liase with ur contractor, make sure they both understand each other and work together. Without air con piping up, u cannot do any of your toilet tiling or kitchen tiling (esp. if your air con unit is linked to Kitchen like those in condos) :bangwall:

Also, another thing, get your contractor to tell u exactly what needs to come in first, second and so on... Patrick was patient enough with me to keep reminding me ".... please lar, ur aircon must come in can? Otherwise I cannot do tiling u know..." LOL

Oh yea, forgot to mention about that lolz...we also have to chase the air-cond man to do everything fast for us so that Patrick can continue on with his work. We also got our air cond unit from Gain City (Woodlands branch).

Besides that, also make sure you get your tiles, bathroom accessories (toilet bowls, basins etc) ready so that all the renovation works can proceed smoothly and according to the schedule :)
