  1. no prob, will let you know tmr after our meeting. i asked her the price range, serene said its $6-$14/psf depending on the type, reflective kind, etc. she will bring samples and show us tmr too. ceiling wise... we din measure ourselves, but according to ID, its about 2.54m.
  2. hi sohck, we are also doing tiling now, think its about..... 80% complete? balcony area and areas damaged by removal of door frames not done. false ceiling also in progress. our new window panes are up, minus the grills - think that will be put up only later. just met our ID this morn for an urgent last min meeting (had to take am leave) - realised the work area in our kitchen was too small, and asked to have the mortar base of the fridge moved out to increase the effective working space. felt abit bad, cos the tilers had already laid the tiles surrounding the mortar base. lucky they haven't started tiling the base. we also called jestac to ask about 3m solar film for our west facing living and dining room windows - the lady, serene will be meeting us tmr @ the unit to take measurements, show us samples, then give us quotation. will post pics and update on the meeting tmr
  3. i just checked the v-kool singapore website; the range of solar films they have for residential is i-que - these are a few different kinds, and you can check the estimated costs on the website for your length of windows. http://www.v-kool.com.sg/Get_IQue.asp?cat=archi doesn't come cheap tho....at least not for the length of windows i entered
  4. car solar film....wow.... thot of using 3M, but dunno whether will burst the budget. read tt is about $14/psf. is car solar film more exp than tt? will start sourcing ard and asking for quotations, now tt the window panes are up. thanks for the tip!
  5. the progress of ur house looks good. must be excited to see what was once a 3d drawing coming to reality. looking forward to see the completion of ur reno =)
  6. i think we chose the same laminate, but in black, for our study room storage/display cabinet nice choice for our kitchen, bottom cabinets are gonna be brown, top cabinets white, and also the black galaxy granite. no samples of the laminates tho... did u check with your id on the thickness of the granite top? we forgot about that - when realised the industrial std is only 20mm, we were like gg to hv to top up the front profile to 40mm
  7. is ur flat the old ones, where aircon compressor is installed on steel brackets outside, or does it have ledge? according to hdb regulation, those which require installation on steel bracket can only have 1 compressor, so its a challenge to aircon the whole unit due to the BTU needed. if urs is those kind with ledge, can support up to 2 compressors, no prob with that.
  8. one half of us lives in amk now - guy beany stays in amk, girl beany stays in woodlands (hmm, half in amk for now) guy beany - stayed there all his life. girl beany - stayed there for 1st 5 yrs, went there every week cos grandma stays there, then studied there 2 yrs during JC, after graduation work there for bout 5yrs, heh. amk is a good place. convenient. has everything we need - toiletries = red tomato; curry puff = tip top; bank = posb/dbs/ocbc, u name it; ntuc xtra; bishan park nearby for avid joggers; melben for crabs; wanyang for foot massage but population density @ central/hub area is abit too much
  9. ripples, did ur ID charge you additional for box-up of the trunkings? there is a glaringly thick aircon pipe in the middle of our study room door (super upset about that) - thinking of whether wanna box it up. such an eyesore
  10. woodlands is a good place - i stay @ 6xx @ the ring road... my buddies stay @ 5xx near vista pt and cwp - any time we wanna meet, plenty of food and shopping!
  11. adrian_john, open concept toilet not very possible for us, cos the next block is too near... can look directly into our room from the opp block's kitchen. not an appealing thought, haha. tt's the prob when population density is super high. we will be doing frosted glass for the mbr toilet. any suggestions for common toilet doors apart fm bifold? ours is currently sliding aluminium/acrylic - din wanna do bifold; thinking whether can do any others besides glass? *crack head*
  12. could i just ask... when the toilet/kitchen tiles are laid, do they need to be left there for a few days to "set"? do the pp need to test the water proofing membrane, etc before we can actually walk on it? or once tile, cement dry, that's it? according to our estimated work schedule, tiling and masonry works take bout 3 weeks; but when we went up to the unit on tuesday, tiling on the kitchen and toilet walls had started, and looked half complete. need 3 weeks for total completion?
  13. hey coke, just curious, how much were your lights and accessories tt ur ID bought for you? we have also variations so soon into the reno, big holes in the pockets!
  14. i suppose its good time to buy since Taka's sale is still on
  15. we're sourcing for stainless steel sauce racks to be built into the kitchen cabinet - need one which is 400mm in height, 120mm in width. chicken brand's smallest is about 600mm, which isn't able to fit into our cabinet. any recommendations on where to get good stainless steel stuff? we tried hoe kee, but they also do not have the size we need. could anyone advise location of shanghai tong lee too? we will try looking there. thanks
  16. Progress Update: End of Week 1 # Fixtures removed and disposed of # Electrical wiring removed and disposed of # Old air-con removed and disposed; pending removal of trunking # Walls demolished; debris removed Kitchen walls demolished Common Toilet - changing entrance to diff side New entrance to study room opened. Old one to the left will be sealed MBR Toilet walls down (never realised the toilet is so small) ==> Next up, electrical works, tiling and masonry works....
  17. thanks pinkpetter. did think of the wooden blinds thingy, but was worried about the wind problem. now that u say it wun cause the blinds to keep blowing and hitting the window, will prob go ahead and do it. born_again, we haven't actually been in the unit from 2-4pm, but i think the unit does kenna the sun, tho the agent initially assured us it would only shine in about 20cm from the window (now we can all see its crap will prob be putting up blinds... maybe solar films too.
  18. thanks, aj. asked our id about it, and he recommended increasing just the front profile of the granite to 40mm. it will then look 40mm from the front, but the actual depth of the surface is still 20mm thru'out. definitely more cost-economical. something new learnt too.
  19. another problem that we've been cracking our heads over this unit is the direct west sun for the living room. the walls do get really warm. here's a picture of how a sunset casts light in the evening around 6+pm here's another picture taken at sunset
  20. hi mimi, who's ur ID? how is the theme of ur house? tiles wise... seems pretty std shops most people go to - LSH, hafary... we chose our tiles from hafary - these was a nice guy who explained to us the different natures of the tiles, which would be easier to maintain, and his opinions on the diff combinations. lightings and accessories - didn't end up buying from the one ID brought us to, as we thot prices were on the high side. took our own sweet time to walk around diff places, and ended up buying on our own. guess ur ID will bring you to some shops - have a look around, compare the prices (some can vary quite a bit). most shops sell almost the same designs do let us know the outcome of ur shopping trip
  21. some pics taken 2 days ago... hopefully the mess will be cleared, and tiling would have started when we go see the place tmr. balcony doors removed kitchen
  22. okie, we'll take note of that by the way, did you apply sealant to seal up the 'pores' on the surface?
