  1. Gas hobs are approx $500 - $800 so of coz Induction is more expensive. The quotes I got are almost 2 years old - but I remembered they were in the $1.5K to $2K+ range. The issue of power consumption wasnt high on my list but utensils were. But the point that swayed me towards gas hobs was that I don't know anybody who has one and is able to share his/her experience with me. yup, I am hardly the adventurous sort. BTW, anyone bought a 2-in-1 washer-dryer? Am wondering if clothes can be 100% dry.
  2. I was also considering Induction at one point too. Other than cost issues, I gave it up because as we grew up with and are familiar with conventional gas & fire - we tend to be more wary. However, we are not "tune" to Induction - we may have to learn it the hard way since nobody (our chefs & friends' chefs) is using Induction. Reply in Blue:
  3. Alister, nice house =) And thanks for the pictures.
  4. Geez...this was what I was afraid of and deliberated for a very long while before getting a storage heater. This is mainly coz I have a bathtub. But I was told the water remains luke warm even after 10 hours, so you need to switch on only once a day?
  5. I agree with meepok. Coz when I mentioned this to 4 groups of people (of which 3 groups are strangers at blk 79), they had absolutely no idea that most of the units available are 75sqm. They assumed the 4rm showflat is a real sample of all the available units in blk 79. (was so tempted to say "Aiyo...read carefully laaah") Like many of us back in 2005, they were interested to know "the difference btw a 75 and90 sqm". I described to them exactly how meepok described it. Also informed them that some residents have moved into 75 sqm units in Blk 79E. If they are interested, can try their luck with them. Back then, we had very little info and had to make do with what we had before we make our selections (which wasnt very much for most of us). But now that 75sqm units are ready and available for viewing, these people can actually view these units to allay their worries and to make informed choices. Why is HDB denying them this? This is soo baffling!
  6. haha. this is funny. Speaking of the police, I am currently staying near a pavilion. Like most pavilions - they are commonly used as venues for parties/dinners (especially auctions during the 7th month), chinese wakes, CC dancing activites, drumming practices. The good thing is that all noisy activities will stop before 11pm. At around 11pm, I will see policemen strolling towards the group already.
  7. Ya lor. feel sorry for the lower levels next to the coffee shop. Lurkers aka those applying for a unit in Blk 79 - pls take note ok? I feel it is alright to erect screens in open fields or commercial areas during soccer season. But it is so not right to have throngs of people screaming throughout the night for weeks in the middle of a residential area, when the the majority of people are trying to get some normal sleep upstairs. But like Redwyrm, I will be watching from home.
  8. I like your last para. Hehehe. I got mine through balloting and I felt like I striked lottery liao. I must add that our blocks are much better than lotsa new ones. They are built in a straight (almost) row and are not so bunched up / close to the next block that you can watch your neighbour's 14inch TV or count the number of wanton in your neighbour's noodles. =P Besides. the home within is more important than the external view. How often do you stare out of the window when you come home in the evening? Probably click on the TV and become a couch potato after that.
  9. so far, only chain lock and padlock. But I may use HDB-given keys to lock the main door and gate during this 15-days CNY period.
  10. I think they will build a shopping complex eventually. As for cineplex, is Eng Wah still there? If so, how I wish they will refurbish the building.
  11. Good idea, zanie! Ooops... could be 80/81 instead =P It's very near blk 79 yeah, cheap stuff some more. Oh MAAAAAN!! NO gambling booths please. If you don't believe me, go to blk 85 during the day, especially on weekends. you will understand what I mean. Am hoping that the crowd will not filter down to Blk 79.
  12. I am hoping for a 24hr Cheers or 7-11 actually but don't have also never mind. As long as there are no 4-D / horse racing counters, shops that display goods all over the corridor, sleazy hair saloons, noise generating shops, I am perfectly fine. Hi Redwyrm , there is one at block 84/85. =)
  13. Hi everyone, there have been several reminders to all about safety. But I wish to emphasize that again. My chain got cut over the weekend, but fortunately there is nothing (yet) to steal. The chain was a puny one. Don't use puny chains. To M&M's wife: you saved a bomb by not doing up the toilets =)
  14. hey..good idea! I have toilet bowls and basins to let go. Will go post there to see if anyone wants. =)
  15. M&M - <slaps head> sorry about the email add error. Am getting old. Many thanks for the pics Jacky - it's a safe option to fall back on when all else fails. gadgetman - your kitchen's beautifully done. Although my theme's different from yours, I hope my kitchen will turn out as well as yours. =) Zincy - eeew....isnt it dangerous if the poles are not secured properly? everyone, watch out for falling poles when you stroll along the sky garden at 12 flr. =P
  16. Aluminium poles...havent seen them before. where can they be found? will go check them out. Many thanks =)
  17. I have the same question too. I know they supplied this retractable thingee in the kitchen. Is anyone changing this? If so, to what?
  18. Hi everyone! Havent been catching up on posts. Been busy lately. My reno status: Tiling for living room, kitchen and toilets have finished. Starting on bedrooms parquet soon...I think. Still holding back on the purchase of TV, fridge and washing machine - so tempted to buy.
  19. Thanks for volunteering, Happy. =) Not me. Was told my water pressure is not high enough. 1) No 2) No
  20. Let's not get too carried away. We are actually lucky to be staying in the middle of Singapore and across the road from both the MRT & Bus Stations. We can try to use the public transport as much as possible (although this may be pretty tough for those with the very young and the very old), else it really defeats the purpose of paying a premium to be next to the Stations. Might as well pay $80K less, buy an appt that is away from the Stations and use the money to pay for the car.
  21. yah, I agree with ms white. Look around first and get a feel of all the reno stuff which is probably new to most of us. Probably can scroll down quite fast... think we crapped alot while waiting for the building to complete. heh heh. Thanks Meowie! But aiyo...you shouldnt publish your house number like that. So many lurkers around. Hi hi. Just finished wiring and false ceiling only... so long way to go. Many thanks for sharing.
  22. My ID was quite upfront - either I find one on my own (which he said may be cheaper) or I get it through the him (approx $500). I decided to leave it to him. And yes, approval's very fast. Geez...must find time to go back one day to see what I wrote. I am staying at hmm...mid-floor? Redwyrm, has she finished reading?
  23. Hi mee pok. You have to bring...what do you call that thingee that you use to remove the metal bit? (I am really bad with gadget names...erm help?). After removing that, then you can fit the tap head. I happened to have a tool-box with me then. Hi hi and welcome to Toa Payoh Blk 79 Kakis. Wow! I posted that comment in 2005! Old liao.
  24. All hacking requires a permit but not all hacking requires a Professional Engineer to oversee the demolition work. It depends on the wall that you are hacking. Applying for permit is free but PE requires approx. $500. You can engage on your own or you can get your ID/Contractor to source for you. Demolition work that you see on your quotation is approx. $350 but this usually excludes PE cost. If you don't need to pay for the extra $500, either your walls don't require PE endorsement or your ID/Contractor is being nice. Eeeww. Pictures look baaaad. Am thinking of getting a filter too. But who, when, what and how? I am about to confirm my kitchen layout and carpentary with my ID. Anything special that I need to take note or instruct the ID? This is a very good tip for those who has yet to receive keys. I spent half an hour trying to figure out how to switch on the tap. Called PUB -> referred me to HDB -> called HDB -> referred me to Town Council -> called Town Council -> referred me to PUB......... In the end, I called Yel. She asked...Did you open your letterbox?....... Thanks Yel!
