  1. Hello,

I'm looking to engage contractor for these services at Chai Chee, corridor 3-room HDB.

    1) Tilt the main-door and frame for small degree (8 degree)

    2) Install /mount blind or shade at the corridor, in front of main door.

Anyone can advise contractor for this? And is HDB approval required for (1) and (2)?

  2. Ya, being eyeing the Shun Yanagiba sashima knife.

    Anyone bought em.

It's a sashimi knife .. I guess it's not very common for people.

Maybe you can be the first to give feedback :)

  3. ahh..i see...

yeah i also like those that comes cast in a single piece...no joints means its much stronger...

Unfortunately, that is only the impression. The knife that comes with bolster/tang might be actually stronger than the forged knife.

    http://www.cookingforengineers.com/article/130/Knife-Parts

In the past, forged steel was always deemed to be stronger and more durable than the steel used in stamped knives, but this is no longer necessarily true. The quality of steel used in some stamped knives can exceed the quality of steel in many forged knives. Also, stamped blades can be affixed with parts that are normally only present on forged knives such as a bolster or finger guard. As such, these features can no longer be used to determine accurately if a knife is forged or stamped -- but because a stamped blade is not necessarily a knife of poorer quality, one should not use the fact that a knife is stamped or not to determine if the knife is of higher or lower quality. Instead, the performance of the knife, how well balanced it is, feel, and finish should be much more important to the selection of the knife than whether or not the metal is stamped or forged.

  4. And the rod is not sharpening rod, it's steeling rod. The purpose of the rod is to realign the edges of the knife, it will not sharpen it.

To sharpen, u need whetstones or other devices.

Everyone have their own choice, I find that having just 2 knives make it easier, specially they are much sharper.

In any case, whatever knives u buy, u can bring it to professional to sharpen them. Off-the-shelf knives are not sharpened to optimum at all.

  5. Haha, could we even keep you away :D. You know where I live ;).

Of course you and your good lady wife are invited, and expected to attend or there will be plenty of 8| and remember, I know where you work :P.

    RB

Exactly, I still remember where you live.

    And I know I can't run away from this event if I want to ... :D :D :D

BTW, I assume it's Baby First Month not Babies, unless you have twins? :D :D

"Then there are all kinds of HDB rules that prevent them from renting. The rules are not frivolous.

"The problem HDB faces is that they are just short of rental flats. It's quite clear in my mind -- we need to ramp up the building of rental flats as quickly as we can. Not just by a few thousands; actually we need to (increase) by tens of thousands. And the earlier the better."

To say that HDB should not be for rental ...

  7. You keep missing the point...

We all agree that HDB should not be used for make profit. However, you need to realize the reality that human need freedom.

Of course, there is certain limitation, but does it make sense?

Like my 2nd question, I have paid my flat fully, why can't I rent out? What's the logic?

As long as I earn profit, I can't do it?

    Now I ask you ...

If there is an old widow with fully paid flat, can she rent it out for survival?

  8. If we have so many restrictions, the tendency that it will become "c o m m u n i s t" where everything is being ruled and without freedom.

Like Warrior said, the keypoint is to balance both sides.

Now, I have paid so much for my flat, and I can't rent out my empty rooms? is it fair?

If I have paid my flat fully, it's considered mine (barring it's 99 yrs lease), and I can't rent out my flat? is it fair?

    Please ponder for it first.

  9. 1. So, if the family leaves for 2-3 years, they should sell away the flat, and next time buy again with HIGHER price. If you are them, will you do that? Sell your current flat at 400k and next time u have to buy again for 700k.

    2. What is the right-size of flat? A family needs 3 bedroom because they have kids. Now the kids married, they moved away, do they have to sell the house just because of that reason?

    3. Yes, there are 2 groups, question what is the percentage of the investors, u cut them away, will the price moderate?

  10. What i am saying here is that NO RENTAL ALLOW for HDB. You buy , you stay. You dun want to stay, you sell. Then ppl will buy within their means and according to their needs. Dun have situation where PR buy 4-rm , rent out 2 rms, and ppl buy to rent out after 5 yrs. Making huge rental gain.

Frankly, ridiculous suggestion really. Think for a second.

    - A PR family bought a house for 5 years. For work reason, they have to be overseas for work. They are not allowed to rent out the flat?

    - They have a flat with 3 bedroom, they just have to leave 2 bedroom empty although they have difficulty paying the mortgage?

The root cause is as mentioned as bepgof, demand/supply problem.

  11. When I was discussing conversion of PR -> Citizen, one question always pops up:

Is this a place I want to retire?

The truth is that Singapore is a good place to retire. The sad part of it, you need loads of money to retire in Singapore.

I speak to many PRs .. many express the desire to convert to citizen. Easily 4-5 ppl want to convert.

With the government is becoming strict in terms of immigration, it's yet to be seen whether they would be granted citizenship ...

  12. Most probably a rip-off.

$3000 hacking can hack whole house.

$1600 for "Make Good Hacked Wall Area(s) & Plaster Smooth" -> this is usually not quoted at all

$600 for cement base ?? cement made of marble ah?

"Supply & Install Breakfast Table as per Design Proposed 5 ft run 1,000.00Supply & Install Solid Surface Top for Breakfast Table Top 8 ft run 720.00"

Do you really have 2 breakfast table or they double quote you?

You are doing the whole house, what is the need for "Supply & Laying of Floor Protection w/ Corrugated Paper (Single Layer) 1 area 260.00" ??

Corrugated paper also want to quote until $250. I know ppl want to earn $$, but this is just go out all the way too rip ppl off.

  13. We have ant issues now and then. My older son has a habit of leaving food around or dropping food when eating (crumbs etc) and not cleaning up.

The last time there was a collection of ants around a small bit of food in the sink and as I removed all the plates etc so I could spray, they scattered. I followed in hot pursuit and tracked them down the cabinet and underneath between the cabinet and the concrete base. One bit spray along the bottom of the cabinets and they started pouring out dying.

They had been bugging us for a while and we had even got a ultrasonic bug repulser device from homefix (does not work).

There have been no more ants on our countertops since spraying a couple of days ago.

Trace them to the source (cause them to scatter and follow if needed), give them a good spray in any holes or cracks they disappear in to. If you get a lot of little black ant bodies come spilling (oh the carnage) out then you have got it. If not then keep going until you find it.

    RB

What kind of spray did you use?
